As always, the pizza this past Saturday was (everyone agreed) absolutely delicious. Individually ordered slices come mostly as works of food art. Ive never ordered but was write impressed with the personal pizzas ordered at our table this time as well (group of seven). On another recent visit, my two visiting LA friends (born Houstonians, but now thoroughly Calafornia-ised as far as food, i.e. light) were blown away by the fancier salads on the menu, "best ever". I hadnt had the Joes Pizza in many, many visits... was so glad we had one this time: deep dish, whole wheat crust - the way to go! Joes is Stars signature spinach and garlic pizza. Youll be shocked how flaky and delicious the whole wheat crust is! Dont bother with the white (its fine too, dont worry). I ordered both my slices deep dish and whole wheat crust and totally was the right decision. Only thing I would say is, if you dont like huge wedges of toppings like onion (in particular) and you order them, be sure to ask that they dice the onions, etc. This time I had green bells on my slice, no big deal but along with the nice slender strips of bell pepper, there were also some large wedges. Not so bad as with onion, but I chopped that up myself with the fork. I hadnt specified no chunks when I ordered. Anyway, a small thing.

I typically dont do the buffet when I come to Star Pizza since I love ordering the giant specialty pies, but this time, especially since coming with a couple of people, we decided to try the buffet. The pizza slices are a little smaller, but with good reason, since its a buffet and you dont want to fill up on a slice or two, but the pizzas are still delicious and gives you the opportunity to try their other flavors and styles. Fresh pizza is constantly coming out, especially during lunch when its busy, which is a good thing. The only thing I wasnt crazy about was the dessert pizza. They only had one option for dessert and it had a mixture of chocolate, and apple, and some icing on top. There was too much of a mixture of flavor in my opinion, and would have probably been better without the fruit in it. The only other thing I wasnt crazy about was the smell where we were seated. We were seated in the small area where there is access to the rest room, and it smelled very strong of cleaning chemicals. This is the first time ive ever experienced this of the number of times ive been here, so maybe it was just a fluke. We otherwise had a great experience and the staff was super friendly. Ill be back again, but i might stick to just ordering a specialty pizza pie.

High level of certainty they put a dozen or so sticks of butter in their Chicago Style breading. There is just too much amazingness in the crust alone. The Chicago style is the way to go here as it is clearly better eaten with a fork. The buffet is overrated. Better off building your own or getting either the "Starburst" or "Ben". There are other options as well for the veggie lover or the one that just wants to keep it more than simple with the Margherita Pizza. It will get busy and the kitchen will slow down...yes it will be annoying. But, this is the price you pay for better than national chain pizza. Better and fresher ingredients. Lately their home delivery has been faster than usual (A friend of mine lives a few minutes away and ever so often she splurges and gets it when we are over at her place). Great place to carb up for a marathon or race of some kind involving lots of physical exertion. They have a private dining hall next door that is great for meetings. I had a few meetings there for my alumni association. No deposit or fee to use the room just plan ahead.

After calling a different pizza place and feeling nonplussed with the attitude on the other end of the phone we called Star Pizza and were immediately impressed by how pleasant the girl who spoke to us was. At 9pm on a Saturday night, her attitude was refreshing so we decided this was the place to go. Plus, they have a gluten free crust they make from scratch when you order it. We sat down immediately though the restaurant was busy and our waiter nonchalantly welcomed us patiently answered our questions. Though he had many tables, he was calm, collected, as though we were his only one. We waited the 30 minutes for our pizza, as they hand made to order and were totally impressed with what landed on our table. I had the Joes pizza with some added feta on our waiters recommendation and it was delicious. The crust was excellent even without gluten, the spinach was plentiful and not overcooked and the feta really brought the flavors together nicely.

HORRENDOUS SERVICE!!! THE MANAGER SHOULD BE REPLACED!! (I am a business owner.) I tried to have 2 pizzas delivered to a family whose toddler was just diagnosed with leukemia at Texas Childrens Hospital, but Star pizzas policy to get the delivery was so poor that I had to ask to speak with the manager. After waiting longer than I felt I should, I explained my request to the manager. He refused to budge on their ridiculous policy then HUNG UP ON ME!!!! I did not use fowl language, and I wasnt condescending. I simply asked to have the order delivered, and I wanted to give my credit card information to pay for it, but he refused. Here I am, a paying customer, who is trying to help a friend in need, wanting to give them my money, and they wouldnt take it because I couldnt jump through their ridiculous hoops. I will never return to Star pizza.

I love Star Pizza. They are the best Gourmet Pizza joint anywhere in my opinion. But my last experience wasnt stellar. Their food is still good, but it wasnt as good as previous visits. I go to Star Pizza for the Vegetarian Pizza. This pizza is supposed to be loaded with mushrooms, onions, green peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini and sprouts. My favorite part of that pizza is the cauliflower. But there was no cauliflower. And no sprouts. I did find one broccoli floret. If it werent for the zucchini (not my favorite part), it would have been like any vegetarian pizza I could get at any old pizza place. I was really bummed. I dont get to Houston often these days but I always try to get to Star Pizza when I am there. Think Ill skip next time and go to Niko Nikos or The Hobbit instead. :(

Weve ordered Star Pizza to celebrate birthdays at work twice. While other food deliveries are brought inside and directly to the person who ordered it, the Star driver will not come inside. We have to locate a cart and go down and meet him at the door to pick up our food. Quite annoying. This time, one of our pizzas had been turned up on its side and all the toppings slid to the side and were stuck to the lid and the side of the box. It looked horrible even after we tried to put it back together. When I called to complain, I got the feeling the manager didnt believe me simply because the second pizza wasnt also turned on its side. The food is good, but customer service leaves a LOT to be desired. Complete package, Star is not.
