For our 44th anniversary together we had dinner at Saint-Emilion Restaurant in Fort Worth on June 16, 2017. Their menu is extravagant, to say the least. You can check it out on their web site. Our servers name was Chris, and he was as excellent as it gets, without being overbearing or invasive at all. He is also the sommelier, which worked out very well for us. For our special dinner we started out with warm bread and butter and an amuse-bouche of cucumber slice with salmon mousse. She commented that the salmon flavor was too heavy for her taste. She and I both ordered the scallop appetizer. I also ordered the foie gras as a second appetizer because this is about the only place I know that serves it. Our scollops arrived perfectly cooked with a great sear on both sides, 2 for each of us. The sauce was really more of a tomato puree. It may sound simple but it was rich and very subtle tomato with savory herb flavors. It was so good I deliberately ate very slowly to make the pleasure last as long as possible. I must add the chardonnay by the glass that was recommended, EnRoute, provided one of those rare times when the wine actually enhances the flavors of the dish and vice versa. Very nice. The foie gras came with a light sauce with grapes and nuts with some crostini. This was a much lighter version of the pate as opposed to the more dense, richer version that weve had in the past, primarily in France. I actually prefer the other, more dense style of foie gras. Still, it was delicious and I ate every morsel. She ordered the filet of beef for her entree and I ordered scorpion fish. Ive never seen this fish on a menu and had to give it a try. Her filet arrived and it was a very large "chunk" of meat. It looked very good but she was concerned that it might be over the medium rare that she ordered. However, after cutting through it, it was just so thick that the temperature range went from rare on the inside to medium on the outside. She was very satisfied with it and enjoyed the quality of the beef as well as the overall flavor. My scorpion fish was served as a filet with vegetables prepared with unique, unusual flavors to my pallet, including a sweetness that all worked together to make a delicious meal. The fish itself was comparable in texture to tilapia and was cooked absolutely perfectly. Probably I would try something else next time simply because sweet entrees are not my favorite. But the preparation overall made it a very satisfying meal. Saint-Emilion is a place that we really enjoy and look forward to those rare times when we are able to return.

Normally, The dining experience at Saint -Emilion is sublime. I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions and would give every meal, ney dining experience all the stars that a review can offer. Tonight however was the polar opposite of what I have come to expect from Saint-Emilion, I likely would have let this one bad meal go and chalked it up to the fact that I chose the "special bistro menu" which sadly seemed to translate to over seasoned leftovers. I would have stuck to my usual upon my next visit which is the delightful dover sole. I sent my "special" meal back with no muss, fuss, nor a request for something else. When I requested the check and offered my credit card I was charged more than my original check. When I brought this to my waitresses attention she quickly called on her manager who then threw an itemized bill at me, the totals were still different, they had overcharged me and then proved that fact, a simple I am sorry would have sufficed. Instead the manager said I see what happened snatched the check and gave the new charges over. In what restaurant is that considered service of any kind it was his mistake and frankly being overcharged after a less than thrilling meal was unacceptable. April, my waitress was lovely, sadly the manager was at best rude whomever he is he has no business in the service industry. When Bernard ran the restaurant without the help of this manager, there was never a problem, never any rudeness, and never any dissatisfaction. I am sad to say that this evenings meal taught me two things about my beloved Saint-Emilion 1. Always order from the standard or chalkboard menu 2. Always deal with Bernard.

St. Emilion could be such a great find (with different management) -- good food, fast, efficient service, and as friendly as you might expect anyone with a French accent to be. BUT, if all you are going to spend is $175 for two people, then do not expect to have a leisurely dinner. This is not Europe -- if your idea of fine dining is eating like hogs at a trough, then this IS your kind of place! Do not expect to be able to finish your soup, do not expect to be able to finish your salad. Telling the waiter, "No, I still have 7/8 of my entree left on my plate!" will buy you another 30-45 seconds until he returns again asking if he can remove your plate. Dessert? Sure, but do not even think about asking for a second cup of coffee or espresso -- your bill will come long before you or your date have finished the first cup. Romantic restaurant? Could be fabulous, except for the constant interruptions to your conversation. Every wait person is fluent in one expression, "May I take this away, Sir?" referring to your soup or salad or drink which is still 3/4 full. From St. Emilion you will leave not filled and just a little raw edged about the dinner sprint to which you and your date were just subjected. Email me for pages of local area restaurant recommendations where your fine dining experience will be a pleasant memory. Saint-Emilion is not on that list!

I love, love, LOVE French food. This place was just okay. It wasnt amazing and it wasnt bad. It was good. Its a cute quaint place to eat, take a date whatever. It was very loud in there though, so not romantic. I felt over dressed. You can definitely tell a difference from the Fort Worth crowd and the Dallas crowd. It was more laid back, more under dressed then a typical French place in Dallas. They had a small menu with a few yummy dishes. The prixe fixe menu was okay. I ended up ordering a la carte because the combinations werent that appealing for me. I would NEVER call this place affordable for the average diner. Our ticket was over $150 for two. For me, thats expected for places like this, but for someone who typically does the chain thing, it would not be a cheap dinner. Portions were a little smaller than expected. Its worth trying once and maybe going back one more time. I guess because Fort Worth doesnt have many places like this. Id rather drive to Dallas. I cant comment on the service because it wasnt memorable.

My fiancee and I went to Saint-Emilions, and it was literally one of the best meals/experiences of our lives! Seriously, any negative commentary here is completely ridiculous. The service was more than fantastic, and the chef himself came out to check on our meal. We did the three-course meal, and every single course had us raving. The pork tenderloin that I had was the best pork Id ever tasted. My fiancees fish was so good she refused to even give me a bite! I dont know what happened on the night the person had bad service, but ours was more than phenomenal. We had made special reservations to be outside more than a week in advance, and then when we got there the weather took an unexpected turn, and the staff got together a new table inside and let us move there and moved all of our plates, silverware, drinks, food, etc. to the new table for us! If you want a romantic dinner and phenomenal food, you cant get any better than Saint-Emilions.
