Update: This is an update to my previous review that is now a year old, I have just recently returned to Rio Lerma for another meal whilst in Forney and I had the Brisket Chimi Changa and my Wife had the Cheese Enchiladas with Veggies and an Avocado sauce, we were not disappointed at all fantastic quality/taste and service all at a reasonable price.. I do not know what Teddy Churchill ordered to only give them 2 stars, when I looked his Google+ profile up he had given Whataburger 5 stars and Schlotzskys 5 Stars.. I can understand Schlotzskys but seriously this is a great restaurant compared to a Burger fast food chain.. I guess you cant please the pallet of everyone.. But I will return for sure. I have eaten at many of the Mexican restaurants in the area of Forney and the surrounding areas and have found Rio Lerma to be one of the best for food taste and quality. The decor could do with some updating, but I do not go somewhere to eat to look at the decor it is the food that interests me and the owner Hugo makes sure that you as a customer are always happy. This is more authentic Mexican rather than Christinas or Los Hermanos which are both decent places to eat, but I think that they have spent more money on the decor than on the chef that prepares the food, my wife and I have tried many dishes on the menu and have not found one dish that we dislike yet.. I would highly recommend that you give Rio Lerma a try if you normally frequent Los Hermanos or Christinas to compare the food quality and the service. They also have a loyalty card system that allows you to get a discount after eating their regularly and specials on certain days like Fatitas for only $9.99 or 99 cent Frozen Margaritas Yum....

First time visiting, this is a popular spot. There was a slight wait, about 15-20 mins. The Hostess was polite. Our waiter, Dane, was very good and helpful. The chips were a bit on the hard side, some chips were fresher and warm but the others were room temp, but the salsa was very good. Not spicy at all, as I cannot handle spicy, and not too tomatoe based. My husband ordered the Brisket quesadillas and they were delicious, juicy, and great flavor. I had the Chicken Enchiladas con Huevos with the sour cream sauce and the egg was cooked/fried perfectly, runny yolk with the egg white cooked. The chicken in the Enchiladas were moist not dry like Ive had at others. The flavor of the chicken mixed with the sour cream sauce and egg was very good. I also liked the rice but the beans were ok, even though I am not a bean person, I did have to add a little bit of salt. For dessert we had the churros and OMG they were delish!! They had a chocolate filling or it may have been hazelnut but the flavor was amazing, the cinnamon and sugar mixed with a great soft crunch and then topped with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle it was great!

This place serves the best Mexican food Ive had in the Dallas area and quite possibly maybe the best Ive ever had. They serve authentic and Tex-Mexican. Ive never had white queso and fajitas as good as theirs. The chips are always fresh, tortillas are homemade, and the chicken and carne are seasoned nice. The owner does everything here (cleaning, cooking, serving, overseeing, etc). We dont eat Mexican anywhere else but here. My wife has tried numerous other dishes, and theyve all been outstanding. Ive just had fajitas because I love fajitas. We always take our friends and family here for Mexican food and dont go anywhere else because from my experience theres not much of a comparison.

This place is one of the biggest reasons I miss moving from away from Texas. We used to eat here almost every Sunday after church. The food is amazing. Has a very "local" feel and if you visit enough, they will start to remember you and your order. There were times Id go in on the weekend and they would bring me a margarita without asking because they remember. HIGHLY recommend this place. Also, keep an eye out for the owner...hes usually walking around bussing tables. Such a nice man.

I used to enjoy coming here. We cant get there until after 7:30 on sundays; we have other responsibilities. Lately, When we arrive they make sure to tell us that they close at 9 and they are rude to us if its past 8 when we arrive. We have spent hundreds of dollars here, thousands if you count our entire group. Im appalled by the lack of courtesy and respect shown to patrons. Forney doesnt have many options but Im thinking I need to start cooking our own Mexican food at home.

When I got here, no one was in the restaurant but within five minutes of arriving the place was full. They were understaffed and forgot about us and we didnt get out food for almost an hour. The manager (owner?) was extremely apologetic and comped our meal. THATS how you fix a problem--own it, and make it right. The food was amazing. It was honestly the best Mexican food Ive ever had and I will be returning. Customer service and food was outstanding.

Horrible! Service was SLOW. We ordered one margarita and a plate to share. It took an jour and a half. When our food arrived it was cold. Apparently it had been sitting a long while waiting to be brought out. Food was mediocre. Perhaps if it had been hit it would have been better. Too much soour cream on the enchilada. That meat taco was good as were the refried beans. Skip this place and go to Christinas.

This is by far our favorite mexican food restaurant, not just in Forney, but in the Dallas area. The margaritas are good, but not great. The food though is to die for. They have a large selection of tex-mex and they also have a brunch menu. Every item Ive had has been excellent. Service is great. It is family operated and they will go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of.

Great place in Forney for Mexican food. The staff is always hustling as the place gets very busy on Friday and Saturday nights with the locals .Owner is out there busing tables and shaking hands with everyone and the Margaritas will give you a nice chill after the first one they are just right. The food has always been spot on every time we have ordered which is at least 2 times a month.

I have been here several times and everything about it is just amazing. The food is AMAZING every time and the service is just exceptional. Ive NEVER had bad service or even mediocre. Ive always had a full glad to drink, empty plates removed, everything Ive needed I had without asking. I drive 45 minutes to eat here because everything about it is amazing. Please make sure you go in!!!

Placed an order I over the phone for carry out. Guess they dont know the difference between chili con queso and chili con Carne because they put the wrong one on our enchiladas. I asked for some jalapeños which they gave us with no problem but wanted to charge us for extra salsa. If you like bean flavored salt youll be pleased with their "refried beans" which were really soupy.

Ive been here twice now and both for brunch. Ive tried two different items and bother were spot on. If say you get more bang for your buck for sure. The guacamole is very good. The servers are attentive and always there. They might have got a 5 if I had not had to remind them of a couple things they left off. I will be back.
