Not sure how this place has any sort of good review. I came to corpus on a business trip and I love sushi (or anything thats not fast food). To start off I was extremely pissed with the service there. I normally wouldnt care but for the price they are charging it should come with a small side of good customer service. I came around 7pm which was dinner time but surprisingly not busy although the restaurant is rather small. It had about 11 customers or so. I came alone. I was sat down pretty quick but everything after that was far from quick. I sat down and waited 20 mins before I was greeted by my server and asked what to drink. Took at least 10 mins for the drink. Then ordered food. I didnt order much at first. 16 piece chef special sashimi, which wasnt nothing special. 4 small pieces of salmon, tuna, hamachi, and flounder I believe. Only thing that was out of the norm was he flounder. The fish tasted fresh but I waited about 40 mins for that. 35$ and was not worth it at all. I been to dozen of sushi places all over the US and I been to $-$$$$ places but I feel like I wouldnt pay over 20$ for this if I knew what it was. Second I placed an order for live scallop nigiri and uni because I wasnt satisfied whatsoever so I thought if I pick the items myself I would be more happy. Scallops nigiri was ok $17 for 4 pieces. Once again it was a no price item and if I known I wouldnt have paid. And last but not least the uni. That was the best part of my visit. One of the best Ive tasted. Fresh and not a fishy taste like most of the places I tried. I quickly ask for the bill as I seen the waitress pass. My bill was 74$ for just me! Took 10-15mins for the change. I paid with $100 bill and got back mostly 1s and 5s my biggest pet peeve and while giving the change the waitress was SUPER nice. I give tip where I feel like they derseve it. Hell Ive given a $160 tip before. Overall I wouldnt recommend this place to anybody to be honest. Very disappoint. First and last time Ill be here.

I have always been a HUGE sushi fan for a large portion of my life. I have been to many sushi places across the U.S. This place stole my heart! The food and atmosphere is amazing! Its hard to come by a place that serves you miso soup at the start too! Not that I have been a huge fan of the soup but its the thought! The service was great and the employees seem to love it here! The head chef is very kind and loves what he does. Also notice them have several tickets of orders of food and most chefs would freak out about it but they looked at each other and said "lets get to it!" Now that is an amazing team. Will be coming back for as long as I possibly can.

Overpriced, and poor quality. I will not go back. Not very clean, and yes it is dark inside. Tacky vertical blinds cover once beautiful glass windows. Tables were not clean. You can see smudges throughout the plexiglass top. Dishware had masago (those orange tiny fish eggs) all over them. Avocado Bomb had such a small quanity of crab, only made up by fake crab meat. Covered in avocado, it was definetaely not worth the 15.95 I paid. The unagi sushi was not grilled well, and covered with cucumber. They apparently like to cover everything with cucumber slices. The cucumber salad was too sour. On the plus side, the gyoza was good.

As a frequent traveler who enjoys great sashimi I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of competence and attention to detail in found here seated at the sushi bar. Chef makes an excellent dish called "Iron Chef Sashimi" and had delicacies such as blue fin o-toro, escolar, salmon belly and extremely fresh mackerel and yellowtail. Many dishes benefitted from Chefs homemade plum vinegar, as well as some being hand smoked as a prelude to being served. Highly recommend and I will return.

Sushi as good or better than the overpriced NYC or SFO spots. But prepare for a wait - not for a table, but for service. Family owned means you get family member level service (pretty close to get up and get it yourself). The food makes it all worth it though. Menu could use more options that dont include spicy tuna. Seemed like 75% of rolls were same or similar ingredients. Even so - nothing disappointed. Half squid / half seaweed salad is a must get.

Boyd made us feel like home. We sat at the sushi bar and as he prepared our food he not only shared with us where it was from (Japan, New Zealand and California) he also told us how it was prepared in Japan. We highly recommend the Iron Chef sashimi. I have never seen fresh sushi served this way and it was delicious. Being Austin and traveling all the time and trying new sushi places, this is one wed recommend.

Exquisite sushi bar... One of (if not THE) finest sushi place in Corpus Christi. Only place I have found uni shooters in town. Food is exceptional, service is very good. Kay and her son are some of the best wait-staff in town. I have been coming here about once a year for over ten years and the place keeps getting better. Just have nothing but positive things to say about Aka.

The freshest sashimi my wife and I have ever had. Corpus has know idea what they have. OMG, did I say the best weve ever had? The salmon and the white tuna are simply unbelievable. Will be back every visit from this point on. The chef is one bad ass cat, people...........SIMPLY THE BEST!

Food was great, service was sub par. Kil was the only employee that wasnt miserable when I went there with a large party for my birthday. Everybody else was upset, and demonstrated it obviously. Their hours are also awful. Definitely not a fan of this establishment.

I try to eat here all the time. Boyd is great, love his storys. I have brought many of my coworkers here to eat and everyone loves it. Only complaint I have is they arent open on Sundays. The Avocado Bomb and the Lobster Volcano is a must try.

If its not auyhentic, it is still very good. Great selection of sushis and noodles. Was educated on Saki and found a new gem. The customer service was not as sharp as some places, but you can tell it is family owned and run and tastes wonderful

It is an authentic Japanese restaurant. I love its Korean beef short ribs and like its seasoned sashimi specials. The Volcano roll here is not the usual kind but a messy non-stick version. The spider roll tastes good but is short on rice.

One of the best sushi places I have ate at, it offers many choices of fish including sea urchin. Fresh, well prepared and great service. They offer chopped wasabi, instead of the normal prower stuff, it is awesome!

A bit on the pricey side but even as one of the few Japanese restaurants in Corpus Christi, the sushi is quite good! Attentive wait staff and typically not too crowded on a good day, and the mochi is a must-try!
