Before venturing off to San Antonio for work, I took a risk. I decided to try the "new" donut place in town... If youre from Castroville (or Medina County for that matter) or are familiar with the area, you know Habys Bakery is a breakfast staple. But I had heard a few people raving about Donut Palace, one of those being my dad, and I consider him fairly reputable. But being as stubborn as I am I refused to support any establishment other than Habys. However, this morning I guess I awoke without that particular sentiment and I decided to take the turn up the steep slope off Hwy 90 to give these new donuts a try. And as much as I dont want to admit it, they were good! I still dont think their donuts are better than Habys, but they do have different breakfast options that Habys doesnt have. For instance Kolaches! They have both fruit and meat kolaches that are tasty. I purchased for my office, 1 dozen glazed donuts and 1/2 dozen sausage and cheese kolaches. With the purchase of a dozen or more donuts, they throw in the donut holes for free too :) The total for my purchase came out to be about $15. Ill go back again and work them into the rotation with Habys. My loyalty for the moment lies with my Alsatian bakery, but who knows, one day that may change! FYI their hours are from 4 AM - 3 PM, 7 days a week! And they are in the old Dairy Queen building.

So much better than Habys, and better prices! You can tell by the taste that they make everything from scratch, and they make small batches all day, so no matter what time you come in, you know youre getting a fresh product! They even have an expresso machine.

Whenever I visit San Antonio every month, I never forget to stop at Donut Palace in Castroville for my morning sweet fix. Their donuts are delicious and always fresh. Maple being my favorite. I absolutely recommend this great little place. :)

We stopped in for our first time and were presently surprised. The donuts and kolaches were tasty. The customer service was outstanding. There was limited seatings. Check this place out for breakfast.

Great place and fantastic breakfast stop. I stop just about every morning for their egg, cheese and sausage croissants. Try it when in Castroville.
