OH MY GOD!!!! THATS ALL I SAID WHEN I SEEN A ROACH FLY UP AND LAND ON THE SUSHI BAR RIGHT BEHIND MY FRIENDS PLATE OF SUSHI SHE GRAB HER SAUCE BOWL AND COVER THE ROACH FROM CRAWLING ANY CLOSER TO HER PLATE. NOW WHAT MADE THE EXPERIENCE EVEN WORST WE HOP UP FROM BAR IN TOTAL SHOCK TO TELL A EMPLOYEE OF THE RESTAURANT ABOUT THE ROACH, THE SUSHI CHEF BEHIND THE BAR JUST HANDED THE WAITRESS A NAPKIN LIKE IT WAS NOTHING TO KILL THE ROACH RIGHT IN FRONT OF US I WAS SO DISCUSSED LIKE (EEW ) AND THEN OTHER EMPLOYEE HANDS THE WAITRESS A SPAY BOTTLE TO SPAY THE AREA I RAN FROM THE BAR CLOSER TO EXIT TO LEAVE AND FRIEND WAS STILL STAND AT THE BAR THINKING MANAGER WOULD COME TALK TO US ABOUT THE ISSUE NOBODY SAID ANYTHING THEY JUST THOUGHT WE WHERE GOING GO HEAD EAT THERE, WE JUST LEFT OUT OF RESTAURANT IN TOTAL SHOCK NOW MINDED YOU THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME EVER VISITING THIS SEKISUI AND THEY LEFT A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH AND MY FRIEND SHE IS A REGULAR AT THE SEKISUI IN MIDTOWN THAT NEED CLOSE DOWN THAT JOINT AND CLEAN IT UP !!!! IT WAS JUST WRONG !!!

Ok so my issue isnt that my sushi, while 80% outstanding, had numerous inedible bits and a couple of pieces were outright spoiled. The problem is that when my wife (a former restaurant manager with over a decade of experience in the food service industry) tried to make the waitress and and the manager aware as to ensure a positive experience for customers who might not be so understanding, she received totally unnecessary attitude! We were simply trying to give the restaurant staff heads up so the powers that be could handle the quality control issue lest another customer become irate and cause a scene. We made it clear that we fully expected to pay for our meal and didnt even want them to take the bad sushi off our bill. We were only trying to give the restaurant staff heads up and were met with push back.

Parking at this location is a nightmare. You cant get in the tiny corner parking lot and will end up parking on the side of the street and have to walk across a busy street to get back to the restaurant. Not a very safe alternative on a dimly lit busy street. Our waitress was ridiculously slow, didnt refill drinks and we waited almost an hour to just get a few sushi rolls for a party of 4. We watched other tables getting food much quicker with different wait staff. The food is really good, but the parking is a pain and the wait staff is hit or miss.

This is my sushi joint absolute top of the list no matter where Ive eaten sushi. All of my FAVORITES are right here, including Lee, the regional manager for the Sekisui restaurants and Robata Ramen (also great stuff!). Lee is just the sweetest bubble of lovely energy that makes amazing sushi (Cory is The Man! but the rest of the sushi chefs are on point too) just that much better.

My family loves visiting Sekisui so much, we joined the VIP program! Definitely worth it if you like sushi and sashimi and do not prepare it at home. The sake selection isnt that bad, either. The VIP program also works with Robata, our neighborhood Yakitoriya / Ramenya, so that is a plus! There are also vegetarian and vegan options so everyone can have a good time together.

Service was fast, portion size was on the smaller side but the food was good. The inside was cute and romantic with a faux waterfall in the entryway. Overall a good spot for a date night or a meal on an outdoor patio. Prices were in line with Sushi prices. I was concerned due to mixed reviews on Yelp but they were very busy the night we went and service didnt suffer.

Tired and needs to refurbished. This place was quite nice 15 years ago but today is rather dank, dark and dirty. I didnt want to touch anything for fear of having the dirt rub off on me or my clothes. The other Sekisuis in town are far nicer, clean and up to date. Id recommend driving out of your way to avoid this on. Bummer too as it used to be a jewel.

Never in my sushi eating life have I been served BONES in my sushi. Not only that, there was a inedible half inch tapering to a quarter inch of red vein in my white fish. The rice was unflavored and old. This was my first time eating here and my last. I ate at 6:30pm on Sat. and had a dragon roll and the early bird combination dish.

I really enjoyed the food here. The staff were all very polite and helpful. The outside of the building could use a little upkeep, and the the dessert options were kind of lacklustre. But the sushi was great, and the side items with it were delicious.

Pretty decent sashimi for being in the heart of BBQ country. Definitely worth the visit. Clean, relatively quiet, friendly staff, an extensive menu and best of all: good food! Highly recommended.

As far as the Sekisui family of restaurants this is the ugly stepchild. The food is average, the service is average/poor, if you want to be satisfied, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Great sushi and fish. Friendly, prompt service. However is was cold outside that day and they didnt seem to have the heat on. It was cold in the restaurant!

Memphis seems to be a hard place to get good sushi, but Sekisui is fairly good. Its a little bit grandiose, and a lot loud, but itll work in a vacuum.
