So many great reviews so I decided to grab some to go. The hostess promptly greeted me, handed me a menu and told me to order from the bar. After sitting for around ten minutes with servers moving and past, some of them certainly not overly busy, I was never acknowledged by any of the staff. So, I took the menu back to the front and informed the hostess I was ready to order and gave it to her. She told me to keep the menu and go back to the bar. So I did as she asked but this time also took my credit card out and placed it on the menu. After another ten minutes of being a ghost, I informed her of the situation and said I would go elsewhere. No apology, no active action, just a simple "are you sure?" in reply. I could have certainly been more assertive, but service is part of the restaurant experience. Needless to say, i will not be returning.

AVOID!! Cannot believe the reviews for this place are as good as they are. Went on a sat night. $11 for a plate of tofu (just tofu on plate...really) and small (and I meal like 1/2cup) bowl of runny gross red-beans and rice. GF got pasta and the bread on side was cut in half flat bread sandwich thins...essentially sliced bread from bag. Being a vegetarian I was 100% not impressed and am 100% not going back. Our bill for 4 people was $70. no drinks/no dessert/no way going back. Eclectic Cafe has much much better options for non-meat eaters. Lastly, when asked what was in the veggie bayou rolls, our server stated some random vegetables and shrimp........how veggie/vegan is this place? Been to New Orleans many times. This place is aw-ful. Similar to New Orleans in name/color only.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I had the chicken and sausage jambalaya with a side of red beans and rice. My girlfriend had the seafood gumbo and the roasted garlic potatoes. We tried each others and everything was delicious. I was a little surprised at how mild the food was, though the flavors were still excellent. They did have hot sauce so you could spice it to your taste. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the owner of the restaurant came down and met with customers while we were there to see how they were enjoying their food. All in all, it was a good meal.

Loved this place!!! Being vegan and coming from the north it was hard to find many vegan places, or places with vegan options, but this food had great variety for many diets, and huge portions! The food was spiced and seasoned perfectly, and had an amazing kick and really stayed true to the New Orleans style. The staff was outstanding and kind, and our waitress Isabella was sweet enough to recommend her favorite vegan items on the menu. The atmosphere was wonderful, and it felt like Mardi Gras just walking in.

I dont know where to start. Gary the chef/owner welcomed our group into the restaurant like we were family. Something you do not experience at many establishments. After asking for some guidance between the jambalaya and the voodoo roux, I chose the voodoo roux. Gary did not not steer me wrong, what a great dish! Full of flavor and plenty to satisfy the hungriest of appetites! Truly a great welcoming place to eat. This really is a do not miss spot whether you live in Memphis or are traveling (which I was).

My co-workers & I dined there yesterday, the atmosphere was great, service was perfect! I had the Shrimp PO Boy it was delicious ( highly recommend). The owner treated us to a variety of deserts, all I can say is WONDERFUL! I dont like bananas, but the banana foster cheesecake was amazing as was the bread pudding with brandy glaze, and the peach cobbler - amazing!!!!! The chef stopped at the table and talked to us - he and his staff were delightful! Ready to go back today!

Every time I walk into DeJaVus downtown location, it feels like Im walking into a friends house. The staff is so friendly. Its amazing that the restaurant can cook in bulk and still have such amazing flavor every time. I cannot go to DeJaVu without eating the gumbo. Its flavorful, full of shrimp, sausage and chicken. The rue is what makes the gumbo out of this world. It comes with rice. In fact, I often crave the gumbo. They also have unusually delicious sweet tea.

Ive been to New Orleans, eaten at a dozen places, including some really top notch spots, and the food at DeJavu was better. Staff was fantastic, knowledgeable, and personable. Owner was walking the floor and joked with us a bit, but did I mention the food. THE FOOD. I have rarely been more sorry that I had nothing left on my plate, not to say that the portions werent a fine size. I plan to go back here as often as I can justify to my wallet.

Im new to creole food and I loved their jambalaya! I also really liked the service. It felt so personal, like we were old friends. It felt like I was being welcomed into someones living room while they cooked for me in the kitchen. I cant say enough things about how much I appreciated their service. I believe the owner was a Katrina transplant and brought their knowledge and skills of New Orleans-style cooking up to Memphis with them.

If youre looking for food with a heart and soul this place is for you. The honey chicken was delicious and moist. My husband had the alligator stew and didnt talk much through dinner because he wanted to enjoy and savor every last bite. The wait staff? Everyone of them are awesome - smiles, helpful, and overall a great working team. Oh, and the bread pudding - get it! You wont regret it!

Super large entre portions. Kind of expensive but worth the money due to the portion sizes. Sides are regular sizes. Small dinning area but I did not feel cramped. Owner friendly and will come out and speak to the guests. He gave my table of nine 4 different deserts to try for free!! Nice selection of fish, chicken, beef, vegetarian and vegan options.

Super staff, especially the hostess, Terry, who seated me and my waitress, Caterina. They were both excellent. I had the roasted Chicken with very fresh Spinach. Very large portions. Too much for one person. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. Very accommodating and homey. I will definitely come again and I strongly recommend you dine here.

The staff was welcoming and pleasant. Loved the decor of the cafe. I ordered the shrimp and grits. I was very disappointed. The presentation was unappealing. The grits were runny and tasted like water. The sauce and shrimp that was on top was bland and unseasoned. The portions would have been considered generous if the food was good.

The staff was great! Very friendly and attentive. The food was awesome! The alligator stew was delicious, and the jambalaya was perfect! I was pleased with the mushroom and spinach quesadilla. And the bananas foster cheesecake was everything I was hoping it would be! I will be back, and if you havent been yet, go get you some!

There is sooo much I loved!! From the time we sat down to the time we left service was amazing, helping us with out every need. I had the crawfish poyboy and even though I didnt get to finish I promise I will later on. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Dejavu for anyone looking for some good Louisiana cooking & good hospitality!!
