My husband and I recently moved back to the Knoxville area from Georgia. We are both professionals while I am currently staying home with our two children (5 yrs and a baby). We went to eat at the Apple Cake Tea Room several times since we moved here and my in laws enjoyed going when they were in town. The first time we went we learned that they only had a hot dog and pbj of which my daughter eats neither so she sat patiently and waited for the grown ups to eat. We have no family here so we recently brought in something for my daughter to eat so that my husband and I could still come to eat at this restaurant. We had done this before as we called and they told us to bring her food with us and we would have to sit in a designated area. After lunch, the waitress informed us that the owner had charged us a fee for our child to eat the food we brought. I went to the owner and she proceeded to tell me how horrible the children make messes in her restaurant with the brought in food and I assumed that is why she charges a fee. She said I will remove the fee this time but you do not know how messy it gets with these children. The owner stated that many children bring in food and I sensed this was irritating to her. I suggested maybe she could expand her childrens menu. She stated she cannot please everyone and the fee was nominal. I will not return due to the principal of the matter and it is such a shame since our family enjoyed it previously. I do not feel like the owner or her front-end staff really desires children in their establishment. The reason I state this is due to when we came in and politely stated our daughter brought food as to sit in the designated area, whispering started and I was told it was going to be quite a wait. This critique is for all of us who have children who like more of a choice than a hot dog and pbj and enjoy feeling welcome where we are spending our money.

I visited the apple cake tea room today (12-2010) with my friend and our little girls (4 children total) for the first time. I really wanted to love this place. I tried to love it. The atmosphere was an adorable log cabin style and we were hoping for a pleasant "tea party" experience for the girls. Well, the kids menu was terribly lacking and only offered a pb&j and a hot dog for 5.50$! That seemed steep for a kids entree that did not include a drink. I also have a hard time paying that much for those 2 items. I ordered the chicken salad croissant and a side of glazed fruit. The fruit was tasty but they did not put enough chicken salad on my sandwich to make a determination about whether it was good or not. Not to mention my croissant was VERY stale. When I finally told the waitress (because it took her that long to come back to our table) she said she would bring me another croissant. And she did. However it did not have any chicken salad on it and I ended up scraping the chicken salad off my stale croissant and putting it on the fresh one. It was such a tiny amount that I only ended up eating 1/4 of the croissant bc there was not enough chicken salad! The friendship tea was tasty and so were the little muffins set on the table at the beginning. Our waitress was not very friendly or understanding about our dining with the girls. Next time I will not be returning here. I will go to Lulus tea room in Powell where they have a great menu for kids and adults and serve the little girls tea in their own little tea pot. It is also a better value, in my opinion.

I planned a trip to the Tea Room with my daughter-in-law (some girl time); decided to read the reviews. Most of them were not very good. I almost decided to go elsewhere, but really wanted to show her the restaurant. So we went. It was wonderful! We were met with 3 smiling faces and quickly ushered in to a lovely room and seated. We both decided on the chicken salad sandwich and were pleasantly surprised at how quickly our food came. The sandwich was "huge" and so many chips. It was delicious. We couldnt eat all of it. The tea was great. I will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend the Tea Room. Thank you ladies for great service and great food!!!!!

Pros The Apple cake is good (although at five dollars a plate it better be) The place oozes rustic charm Cons There is no ramp. This made stashing my stroller a drag. Someone with a wheelchair would have few options. The name is a misnomer. Their four "specialty" teas offered are just tea bags. My five dollar tiny pot of tea was just a twinnings Earl grey tea bag. The food is just okay aside from the cake. I think my chicken and dumplings had one piece of chicken in the whole bowl. Its expensive. A milk for by toddler, a bowl of soup, tea, and a slice of cake was 16.50 before tax.

It seems many expected something else or thought it was McDonalds. I find the food and service excellent. They aim to please adults who have a desire to relax and appreciate small portions well prepared. Salads and baked items outstanding!

They have great food and I love going to lunch there. Although, I really wish they were open in the mornings at least some of the week and later in the afternoons. Maybe once a week? It was nice the less a good atmosphere and wonderful.

Great place for your girls day brunch. Very southern comfort meets southern home. Imagine brunch at your grandmothers. I enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich. Im looking forward to trying the other items on the menu.

The Apple Cake Tea Room in a staple in Farragut! Every thing on their menu is delicious and the chicken salad is legendary. Such a quaint adorable atmosphere and the owner and staff are wonderful people. Truly a gem.

This place is slightly on the pricey side for the ammount of food they give you, but the quality makes up for that. It is a very homey little place and usually very popular among locals. I recommend it highly :)

I visited this tea room in 2007 and was quite disappointed. The menu sounded fabulous, but the meal was bland and unappealing. I really had hoped for a quality tea room, but...

Off the beaten path ambience, very good wait staff, and my favorite menu item, the Tea Room Medley, make this one of my favorite lunch destinations.
