Recently a coworker told me that Main St. was the best pizza in Kingsport. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to after this visit. I spent time (close to a year) in the New York area many years ago when I was in the USN. I ate a lot of pizza, as most young sailors do, or used to back in the day. And I am not talking about Pizza Hut, we had authentic New York pizza, some of the best Ive ever had, and it has also been hard for me to find since. So, my wife and I decided to give Main St. a try and we arrived at the restaurant in Kingsport at around 6:00 pm on a Saturday night and we were immediately seated, despite the fact that I declined climbing the stairs (really bad arthritic knees), great so far, huh?! We were immediately attended to and our server was great. She kept our water glasses full and was overall very efficient, businesslike and friendly. We started with 2 small house salads with the creamy italian dressing which was great. I enjoyed the way the salad was presented, a bed of lettuce topped with cheese, in the center of the plate with carrots, onions, tomatoes, bacon and a slice of boiled egg around the outside. The croutons deserve special mention, they were truly a treat! My wife prefers her salads chopped much more finely than what we received. She suggested that the salad plate be larger for those who prefer their salads more finely chopped. Which, I suppose, if we had known we could have asked for. We ordered a large pie, the Greenwood Garden. Overall it was good, the mozzarella fresh and finely melted and the marinara was tasty, if a little sweet, to my taste. I wasnt so impressed with the toppings, the onions were hard to find, the black olives were too finely chopped, as were the mushrooms, and the roma tomatoes werent as plentiful as I would have liked, and overall just too few toppings. I would give the cheese an A+, the marinara a B-, and the veggies a C. But, the most disappointing aspect of the meal was the crust, it was undercooked and doughy on one half, just way too chewy. I would rate the overall dining experience with a solid C+ to B-. Of course, this was just one trip to the restaurant which has been in Kingsport a little over a year, if memory serves. I will try Main St. pizza again, but, in this diners opinion, it has a long way to go before it can be considered the best pizza in Kingsport, for my money that distinction still belongs to the small restaurant in the mall.

We ordered our first Main Street Pizza a couple of months ago. We were surprised to find out the amount of toppings available for a create-your-own pizza — especially a favorite of mine (apples) and for my wife (smoked salmon). We chose 4-5 toppings — and they allowed half toppings, which is nice and perfect for two set-in-their-taste-buds folks. We ordered the extra-large pizza. We also ordered a side salad. We were pleasantly surprised to find the extra-large pizza was way more than we needed. We also were impressed with the overall taste of the pizza. It was flat-out delicious. The toppings were fresh, and there was a decent amount of them. The cheese wasnt overwhelming. And the sauce was very tasty. We even called the restaurant to tell the manager how much we enjoyed the pizza, and we would be ordering again. We have ordered again, and each time it has been very good. Also, we commented on the freshness and taste of the side salad. Some restaurants locally are allowing bad pieces of lettuce (black, or unappetizing end pieces; not naming names but several are guilty) in their salads, so the freshness was, well, refreshing. I also noticed when I picked up the pizza the restaurant had Luzianne tea bins. We havent tried their sweet tea yet, but any restaurant that uses Luzianne tea obviously knows the best flavor and darkest color of tea, and cares to serve good tea to its customers. There is no doubt Main Street Pizza is a five-star place for pizza, especially if you want to create your own little masterpiece with different toppings. The only suggestion I have is to offer a different crust choice for the pizza. The crust is good, but just a tiny bit chewy (or tough) on the edge. It still tastes good though!

The food and the bar was great! I love coming and sitting up there to enjoy baked spaghetti with a Shirley temple. I have never been disappointed in the food or staff. The flaw that main street pizza has is with the manager. She prefers to put big parties of 8 or more up stairs. It would be a nice exclusive place except for the fact the air-conditioning unit doesnt work. It might say 62 degrees but everyone was sweaty. The poor waiters were soaked through their black uniforms and out of breath. Everyone was miserable upstairs. We decided to open the windows so their would be some flow of air which was actually cooler than what the sad little conditioning unit provided. Apparently this upset the manager and she commanded us to close the windows. As soon as we did everyone including the servers could tell a huge difference in air flow. She was very rude over all and ruined the evening. Such a shame but I mean hey she got our money. We felt like we needed to leave since there was no air and a rude confrontation. Go enjoy the food, but get take out to avoid her.

We ordered the Margarita pizza and carnivorous pizza med. Size, only 6 small thin slices and a salad which wasnt that cold for $30.00 and the food didnt have much flavor and we was the only customers they asked if we wanted tea to go we said yes and the waiter immediately said okay and walked away and started talking to another worker for like 3 mins so we got up to leave and he said bye ...never got a tea ....never going back not good and not worth the money maybe if the place was packed it would be a nice environment but not nice Food regardless.

Main Street Pizza, to me, has always been the place to go for quality drinks and food. Very few other places in the tri cities offer such an assortment of mixed drinks, beer, or food. Not only is the variety of the menu and food top notch, but the menu offers several preparations that use produce/meat from local farmers. Great food that helps support east TN agriculture sounds like a win to me! And FYI, if you are in need of suggestions, the BBQ chicken pizza and the fried Egg sandwich are sure to please!

Main Street has great pizza and I love that they use a co-op farm to have the freshest local ingredients. Im thrilled that theyre downtown and hope that their success will be a positive influence for other local businesses to fill the remaining vacant buildings in the downtown district. I rated 4 stars because service is slow. They have mostly been polite, but I know that I an hour lunch break isnt enough. Ill be back for many more relaxed-paced dinners and yummy pizza.

I almost did not eat here after reading a few unfavorable reviews about bad service. However, Im glad I gave it a chance because the service and food were outstanding! We went on a moderately busy Saturday night, but the waitress was very attentive, and drinks and food arrived promptly. I had a power quinoa salad that was wonderful, and a sandwich Ive forgotten the name of, but it was very good, too. I live more than an hour away, but will definitely be back sometime!
