By far the worst service Ive ever gotten. My friend and I walked in to no one greeting us or seating us. There were empty seats at the counter so that wasnt a big deal - until we sit there for about 3 minutes, which to me is a long time not to have any staff say anything to you. Mind you, our seats are at the very front, and clearly visible to the staff and manager that were standing and walking around us. My friend asked to be served because they were not tending to us. The waitress that did come around was not very cordial, did not so much look us in the eye. The diner had a buy one, get one half off on beer. We order two after asking a different waitress for clarification on the promotion (our original waitress vanished the rest of our time there) By the time we get our check, we notice they overcharged on beer to which the manager replied that the deal was only for domestic beer and not what we ordered. This was frustrating considering we were misinformed in the first place. I know things can get hectic but the staff, including manager, gave such poor service it felt like they didnt care we were there at all. Very sad. Never going again The grilled cheese sandwich + tomato soup was okay 4/10

I ordered the chicken tenders and one was burnt almost beyond recognition. My mom ordered the meatloaf. She took ONE bite and said that it didnt taste like meatloaf, but like pork and that everything tasted like it was straight from a can. She asked our waitress, Hannah, if she could trade it for something else. Hannah politely said she would see what she could do and took it back. She came back and said that if we were to trade it, we would have to pay for BOTH meals. Mom said no, she just wouldnt eat, and asked politely if they could take the meatloaf off the ticket; which they did. Never once did the manager come out and ask what the problem or offer any other solution. We were recommended this place by our camp ground and a hotel concierge and we are telling them to NOT recommend this diner to anyone else. Normally we are not picky about things like this but this was just bad business management. They also charged us for a side of mayo?? Who does that?!

We were passing through Sioux Falls with our friends on vacation and stopped downtown to see the river and falls. Going off of TripAdvisors recommendation, we stopped at Phillips Avenue Diner and they able to accommodate our party of 10 outside on the patio. Kelly was an amazing server and gave great recommendations and of all the food I sampled, all of the dishes were really amazing. I ordered a great Strawberry Spinach Salad and naturally I finished my wifes Grilled Cheese Melt Burger and my sons French Toast. While I hadnt planned on consuming that many calories, I couldnt resist their delicious leftovers. :) Kudos to Kelly for patiently waiting on 6 children...he was really great with all of them!

Great food! I love eating here but there are a few things that need to change. For one the music is often far too loud (and horrible, in my opinion). Also, they do not have WiFi. I went there to eat today and do some work online only to end up using my mobile hotspot instead of what should be free WiFi. In 2016 its a little cheap of somewhere to skimp on something nearly every other restaurant has. Aside from those complaints, the food is fantastic for the most part, I strongly suggest the breakfast poutine, and the staff are generally cheerful but I have been ignored by servers there and generally underwhelmed by the service on more than a few occasions.

This is a nice downtown diner, usually just called The Diner, or sometimes The Downtown Diner. It really reminds me of the 80s whenever I eat here, because the 80s was when 50s Nostalgia became very popular, and The Diner is a 50s nostalgia diner. Have you ever noticed that there arent any 60s nostalgia diners? Or maybe 70s nostalgia diners? Maybe theres a market for that. Anyone ever think of that? I mean, you could do an 80s nostalgia diner and basically it would be a 50s nostalgia diner that reminds people of the 50s. The 90s nostalgia diner would be very depressing. Dont even start on that. I like the Diner. Its not depressing, like the 90s.

Used to go there about twice a week for a few years. A year ago, the service started to go downhill and the staff was not very attentive. It used to be a good place to go, but it is no longer. There are great new breakfast and other food options in the downtown area, I strongly recommend to try something else. Diner days are gone, no traditional diner music, just unkempt servers who act like they do not want to be there. Clean house or move and let another business come in and show some great quality service. Josiahs has a fab breakfast and voted number 1 in the State! Great coffee and clean staff!

We regularly eat at Phillips Avenue diner, as we can always count on the food to be delicious, and the service prompt. However, when we visited this time, this was not the case. They had several young servers who just werent attentive, never checked back, and never came back for refills. My husband ordered the pot roast melt and said it was good enough. I ordered the Cobb salad and I was really dissapointed. The lettuce was brown and wilted, and my chicken breast on top was cold and hard. Im hoping this was just an "off" day for the staff, as we will be back.

Used to be one of my favorite places before I had celiac, but the horrible selection of gluten free foods (not even the ranch dressing is GF) breeds a "discriminated against" sentiment amongst myself and others in the celiac and gluten sensitive community. The place needs to get in the 21st century and clean up their act to be more tolerant of the gluten free community. I will add the server was great and did what he could to accomodate, however I simply ordered a drink and watched the rest of my party eat their meal (which they said were very good).

Food was great! Everything was cooked well and tasted wonderful, service wasnt the best though. Our waiter, while nice was forgetful and didnt come around for refills or to check up often. At the end of service our check was mixed with another table and our server took note than forgot and waited tables til we called her over again and asked. Eventually we went to the other table and sorted it out with them so we could leave. Overall good food though, and hopefully our service was just a once in a time hiccup

Cute little place. Food was ok, nothing made it stick out. At the time i was there, it was slow, and still took nearly an hour for to burgers. The service was horrible. Younger people, so maybe there is a lack of training. Either way, once items were delivered, there was no follow up and there wa no communication as to why things were taking so long. Also it advertises breakfast all day. It is restric6breakfast menu after 11. Some what missleading in advertising. Not a place I will recommend.

Nice ambience, mixed retro/techno diner feel. Wait staff has been hit or miss over the dozens of times Ive been there but generally good to great service. I recommend the fried pickles if youre needing more time to decide what to order for the main course. Classic: liver and onions but alway ask to hear about the daily specials! Great location if you want to do some window shopping downtown. Be prepared for a 20 minute wait if you come for dinner or lunch; breakfast not a problem.
