We have been to HH many times and this time my wife, brother, and I decided to specifically search for a no-frills kind of place where the emphasis is ONLY on great fresh, reasonably priced, friendly service instead of ocean views and service with a smile. No frills places are obviously not in vogue on Hilton Head, but internet searches for "hole in the wall Hilton Head" consistently led to the Sea Shack and with good reason. In short, this place really fit the bill. If you are looking for a "fine dining experience" dont go here, but if you want just the basics of great seafood, this is your place. I recommend that you do know what you want when you get up to the front of the line because (like the Soup Nazi) they will show their annoyance if you fidget around when your number is called. And expect to be bumped into a lot as you wait in line. Like I said, we were after food, not service. Between the three of us, we split 2 (one fried, one grilled) Shack Attack platters consisting of crab cake, oysters, shrimp, scallops, tilapia, and hush puppies. Im not a huge oyster fan, but these were great, especially the fried. In fact, everything was seasoned and prepared to perfection and portions were way more than enough (we had plenty of leftovers). Also, we all had the She Crab soup, which was very good but too salty in my opinion. Next time I will give the clam chowder a try. We will definitely be back to the Shack on future visits to HH!

Went with our family. This is solid seafood. Not sure what others were expecting, but this place is good. I will say the seating accommodations are tight, but judging by the take out orders heading out the door, it seems take out might be a better way to go. We were told which table to go to after ordering. Some folks may not listen when they are told what table they are assigned, which would cause confusion. But that isnt the restaurants fault. There is a reason the line is out the door and why people who visit say they come back 2-3 times while in town. Solid portions for reasonable price. We fed 4 of us for $45 and that included my tip of 20%. You cant beat that considering the other restaurants charge an arm and a leg for food. The Shack Attack Combo was great. Lots of food, plus hush puppies, mac and cheese, fries and a mini salad. Also had the fish and chips which were good. Crab cakes were ok, but they arent garbage or gross as one person wrote. I think some folks just dont like waiting in line and may have a different idea of what seafood should taste like. We live in the Gulf Region and are very used to good seafood. This is good seafood. I would highly recommend. Oh, I would get there about 20 minutes before they open if you want to sit down and eat. For take out, the line seemed to move pretty quickly, but expect at least a 20 minute wait.

I waited 10 minutes to get inside at lunch time. You order your food get your drink and then grab the first table available. A person brings your food to your table, you dont have a waiter or waitress. I got an oyster and shrimp combo. The young lady at the register recommended getting it fried. With tax it came to just over nineteen dollars. The oysters were good, crispy on the outside perfectly done on the inside. The shrimp was another story, it was very overdone. When you can gently bite on the meat in the shell on the tale of the shrimp and it slides out then you know you have shrimp that has been prepared properly. This was just over done. Overall I would say that the people were very nice and the ambiance I would put in the negative category:, okay thats a lie it is negative. The building is covered in dark brown wood and looks like it is from the 19 seventies, the ceiling is about seven or seven and a half feet tall. The bathrooms are outside of the building and lets just say that whoever cleans theirs must clean restrooms at rural gas stations. I will say that the people were nice, but there is no way I am going back. What I had would have to be 10 or 11 dollars before I would even consider it again and that would be iffy considering how bad and cramped the ambiance is there.

I you have never been to the Sea Shack, it is a very small place. If there is a crowd, there usually is, you have to stand outside and wait to be let in. Once inside you place your order at the register and pay. You are then told which table to sit. "DO NOT" I REPEAT "DO NOT" go to your table to soon you will be treated like a misbehaved child by a staff member (very embarrassing). I was talked to so badly other patrons approached me and stated they would have left if spoke to like that. One person suggested the employee be struck (way to far), another couple stated they love to come there and they walk on egg shells when there, due to rude employees. Once the food arrived it was very good, but not worth the 45 minute stand outside or the rude staff. If you feel you have to eat at the Sea Shack, call in an order and pick it up, would be my suggestion. Personally, there are too many very good or better seafood restaurants in Hilton Head that appreciate my business for me to go back. If you go, at least withhold putting money into the tip jar until after you eat, my second biggest regret after not just getting a refund and leaving.

Oh my lord!! This was our first visit to HHI and we have already eaten at several places but the sea shack takes the cake!! Called one night and it was an hour and a half wait. A local informed us we should go during lunch and go early. So today (6.27.13) we went 15 min before they opened and a line of 8-10 had already started. So we joined in line and 30 min later we were eating. You stand outside till there a table is available, then you stroll in, place order and sit. The place is relative small so like I was informed, get there early whether its lunch or dinner. Excellent taste of food! I had the fish n shrimp platter fried and my better half had blackened shrimp. There is also a small shaker of spices on the table which recommend not being shy with... Very tasteful and cooked perfect! All meals come with hush puppies which were the best on the island, trust me cuz weve ordered several at other places and they just dont compare. I hope this review was helpful and if you havent decided yet where to eat I hope you know now!! Get going so youre not waiting too long....

Went there because of all the good reviews, we knew there would be a wait, but didnt know the place was closed from 3pm-5pm, so when we got there at a quarter til 5, there was already a line and only a third of the line was let in the restaurant when it finally opened the doors. Definitely wish Rachel Ray wouldnt have done a show on it, they either need to open another location or not close from 3-5 every day for people who are willing to eat at odd hours to avoid crowds. Even once we had ordered and were seated, it took a good 30-45 minutes for our food to come out. Good food though, the Mahi (grilled) catch of the day was great, hush puppies were wonderful, sweet potato corn bread was a dessert in itself. Nothing too special about the "Shack Attack", if you want to try a few different things, youre better off getting a combo or sharing with others at your table. All-in-all a great place, I would definitely go back, but still hate waiting in line.
