Ive visited HHI for the past 25+ years now and restaurants have come and gone. My last visit to the HH Diner was about 5 years ago. The food was awesome, the service lightning fast and the place was always crowded. This last trip to HHI saw something terribly different. We were there the last week of September and decided to hit the place on the way off the island. Needless to say from start to finish it was a disaster. The highly disinterested hostess seated us and when we asked about a kids breakfast menu she motioned to the back of the menu. It was the lunch menu. We told her this and she just waved her hand and wandered off. The food was NO better. As others here have stated they use the lowest quality ingredients, the pancakes were small, the bacon was absolutely wafer thin and nothing justified the prices they charged for what was served. They say attitude is everything and they have it but it is of the wrong variety. Couple that with poor quality food and you have a business killing combination. Too bad the tourists see the facade and think "Hey its a traditional diner!" No, it isnt. Bottom line: Avoid this place at ALL costs. As a side note I asked the severely disinterested hostess type person if the place was under new ownership and she said yes, about 2 years ago it was sold to a family member. I mentioned to her thats why this place sucks so badly. We left no tip.

Bad food with worse service. Avoid at all cost! Our waitress only came to our table three times; once to hand us take our order, once to drop our food off, and once to drop the bill off. My wife ordered a breakfast that was supposed to come with bacon. She brings the food out which looked terrible and was cold and was missing the bacon. I ordered pancakes which were also cold and rubbery. When my wife told the waitress her bacon was missing it took her up until we were ready to leave for her to bring it. The only time the waitress apologized for the wait was when she brought the bill. When we went up to pay the cashier our waitress had added on a side of bacon to my wifes order which I was not going to pay for so it was removed. It was busy when we went here and I did expect to wait, and I wasnt expecting anything other than cheap diner food but it is an experience that will have me never returning and telling everyone in our family to avoid. I honestly dont know how this place is still in business. Save yourself and avoid this place! If I could give this place a worse rating I would because they dont even deserve one star!

We were excited to eat here judging from the neat classic look outside but dont be fooled, this place is horrible. I ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich, they gave me dried lunch meat ham, and turkey, with a slice of cheese on extremely burnt yet soggy french toast, not even bothering to making it look like a sandwich (I add a photo to the picture section.) My 6 year old ordered kids spaghetti that was so spicy he only could eat one bite. I ordered the Moon Pie Sundae figuring at least they couldnt mess up ice cream on a moon pie...they did. The moon pie was rock solid that even with a knife I couldnt cut through it. The cherry on top was after my empty Pepsi was sitting at the edge of my table for 20 minutes, when my waitress finally came over (and it was not busy) she gave me a angry look when I asked for a refill. She then returned with the check and the wrong drink. I would have corrected her but she never returned, just like I will never return. A family of 4 when no one could finish their whole dinner because it was horrible and the bill was almost 70 dollars.

The food tasted like a school lunch. Our server did not bring everyones food out at one time. And she forgot one meal. My family member was supposed to get a vegetable of the day, a side of mashed potatoes and roll with his dinner, as it said at the top of the section. Which I also got a dish from the section and got the vegetable and mashed potatoes but no roll and I didnt get my small side. When we corrected her and ask for his sides, she said his dish didnt come with it. But we looked on the online menu and it never said anywhere on the menu that his dish excludes the sides. THE MAN WE PAYED WITH WAS RUDE. The waitress had unhygienic long nails. She forgot many things we asked for. She didnt tell us where to pay. The food is overpriced. Not good. She was supposed to split our ticket but didnt. She did have a good attitude. We still left a tip. I do understand why she got confused because the menu was confusing. The dessert was the best part of the meal. Wont come back, I was very disappointed.

So we decided to go out for breakfast our 1st morning in HH, and this place pretty much has a monopoly on breakfast in the island ever since the Cracker Barrell went away. It was a horrible experience. I ordered 2 eggs over-easy, and when they got to my table there was nothing to dip in the dippy! No toast, no biscuits, no nothing! I was like "what am I supposed to do with these?", upon which they told me that toast came seperate. LOL! Well that wouldve been nice to know when I ordered them, wouldnt it? What did they think I was going to do, suck the dippy thru a straw? The OJ tasted like orange flavored water. And when it was all said and done it cost nearly $30 just for 2 of us to eat breakfast! Just for eggs, toast, pancakes, home fries, and OJ... for 2 people. Completely absurd. Immediately afterwards we went to Piggly Wiggly and bought eggs, bacon, & bread and made our own frickin breakfast the rest of the week. Avoid this place at all costs.

Wow, what a terrible experience. I love diner type restaurants so we had to try this one out. Big mistake! Our drinks were served in glasses caked with some kind of gross food. It was like cookie dough or something. How our waitress did not see this huge amount of disgusting mess is beyond me. Then she brings new drinks in styrofoam cups. At this point I am not feeling confident about the future. Then she sits down at our table with us to take our orders. Never been a fan of that but sometimes wait staff does that. Dont! I had a cobb salad with precooked dry cold chicken that was missing the avacado, topped with blue cheese dressing that had no flavor that I had to eat with dirty silverware that wasnt even good enough to use for camping. Disgusting! The patty melt was okay. A very disappointing experience. Just glad I didnt get sick.

Food was amazing, some of the service could use a little improvement! We were seated within 20 minutes but instead of asking for our drink order, our waitress brought out two waters and walked away without saying a word. She returned about 10 minutes later to take our food order with a bad attitude! I noticed the other waitresses that were waiting on tables around us were very attentive to their customers and made sure they constantly had everything they needed! Sadly ours came to check on us maybe once the whole 45 minutes we were there! Once we were finally done eating, it took us at least 25 minutes to find her to get our check! Never got her name but other than dealing with her, everything was very good! I ordered the party melt and my boyfriend got a burger and we were both very satisfied with both!
