I recently had my wedding reception in the upstairs banquet room at The Wharf Tavern in Warren Rhode Island. From beginning to end, the staff- including banquet manager Gail- was friendly, experienced and enthusiastic to make this day beautiful for us! Gail was extremely knowledgeable and helped me make decisions based on what I was looking to spend. Ive always wanted a wedding on the water, but couldnt find the right place. When we saw the Wharf Tavern and its superb location, we were hooked. The price was unbeatable - the food was good, no complaints from anyone. The meal included salad, hot dinner rolls, protein, potato, veggie, dessert, coffee or tea ... really great for the price. It was said to include soft drinks but my entire party including my open beer & wine bar was charged for soda. Before the event, Gail allowed my wedding planners and I to come in and do multiple walk thrus and load our decorations in the day before and store everything. We went over the meals, head counts, time line of events - Gail was more organized than expected considering the amounts of events she coordinates. Id also like to make a note that not ONCE from the time I first spoke with her until the day of the wedding did she forget who I was... when I called and spoke with her on the phone, she knew me by name, date, time of event.... it was really comforting to know that no matter how many people she talked to, she always remembered who I was. We started the night off with a beer & wine open bar for 1 hour at an extremely reasonable price. We chose the cheese & crackers for the hour and was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful spread, which included fruit too. My guests were overwhelmed by the view and spent dusk outside on the upper deck taking photographs. After a very timely dinner was served, we danced the night away! The bartenders, staff and Gail were beyond kind and all seemed very happy and friendly. The drinks were great, the location was something I could only dream of and overall it was a perfect night!!!! If youre considering having a party and want a location that EVERYONE will talk about, head over to the Wharf Tavern ... it was the first of many parties we plan to have there!!

Why cant any restaurant management group create an above average dining experience at the Wharf Tavern? It has a great location, 2 spacious dining rooms and ample parking. We have seen this restaurant change hands many times and returned on Thanksgiving with the hope that new management might finally have gotten it right. Our memories of past failures include surly, inattentive service, tacky decor, loud Frank Sinatra music, mediocre food and uncontrolled children. The change to new management in July, 2011 gave us hope so 6 of us decided to risk it. We have again been disappointed. We were on time for our reservations at 4:00PM and were seated promptly. The restaurant was understandably full at 4:00 but management seemed to have been surprised that so many people were there for Thanksgiving like they said they would be. This was probably the highest number of reservations for one day the new management had booked since they took over. They certainly wasted the opportunity to show so many guests how well they could perform. I will start by saying the service was extremely slow. It took us 2 hours and 45 minutes to get out of there. This includes our decision not to eat the desserts that came with the meal because we had already been there so long. Our waitress appeared to have only 3 tables to serve, so the problem may have been in the kitchen. It is either undersized or poorly managed, or both. The only thing memorable about the food when it finally came was that it was served at slightly above room temperature. This included the clam chowder which was salty and clamless. To their credit, the new management did have the piped in music in the dining room at volume so low that we could easily follow the football game on the TV in the bar. But if we had wanted to do that, we would have stayed home. Will we return to the Wharf Tavern? Yes, when it is again under new management.

The Wharf Tavern has indeed ben re-opened, and aside from a few little glitches, it nearly gets five stars! the food is wonderful and fairly priced. The atmosphere is perfect. The service impeccable. The only problem seems to be the new General Manager!!!! "Adam" is his name (he announces his name as if hes the entertainment for the evening. I half expected him to take a seat at the piano!!lol)) and you cant miss him! He is the loud, boisterous oaf who can be seen stumbling through the dining room (is he drinking on the job? lol) stopping at every other table harassing customers for their feedback. Let us eat already!!!l Tagging along behind him is whom i presume to be his sidekick - a short tubby little man named "Fonzie" (this must be an in house joke since not only is he flamboyantly gay, but he reminds me of a weeble wobble) asking everyone and anyone in his lispy little voice is everything is ok. Holy smoke!!!! Someone should inform the owner he has a couple of wannabe stars on the dining room floor!! Get rid of the two fat boys and perhaps the Wharf will remain to see another day!

We went on a Sunday night around 7pm. I was looking for a place to go that would be open moderately late (it was a last minute "lets go out to eat" decision) and that was by the water. It was only after we were already on the road that I saw that some people had left some bad reviews. We decided to go anyways and see for ourselves. After dining here, though, I have no idea what these bad reviews were about! We had a great time and thought everything was great. There was plenty of parking, they have their own huge lot, and we were able to sit outside to eat and watch the sun set. Our server was super attentive and very friendly. I thought pricing was moderate and was pretty consistent with other seafood restaurants Ive been to that are right on the water. We ordered a couple glasses of wine and got them quickly. Same with the lobster bisque, which was melt in your mouth delicious. I ordered the fried clam plate and it was a ton of food! Equally delicious. The location was great and we wont hesitate coming back again soon!

This is the 3rd time we have been to this restaurant in the past couple of years. We figured it was such a beautiful evening and thought that it would be perfect to sit outside so we gave it another chance... The parking lot was empty on a beautiful summer, Sunday evening. That should have been a sign. The fish and chips were awful, like rubber and $16.95! I think they may have been frozen fish patties. Even the french fries were awful and the chowder was cold. Although the service was very good and very nice, it was slow. I looked inside the kitchen on my way out and it was very dirty looking and disorganized. The lobster tanks were empty and dirty, no lobster or water in them. It seems to be run by a bunch of young people with no one in charge. The restroom was even filthy! Needless to say we will not be back. Too bad, such a nice spot.
