We are from western Massachusetts and have been annual visitors to the Narragansett area for several years, but had somehow not focused on the Coast Guard House restaurant. We made the huge mistake of dining at Champlins by the Block Island ferry dock last night; I cannot think of a worse dining experience. Tonight we ate at the polar opposite - a lovely, clean facility, fabulous service, superb food. The view is unparalleled, and thanks to Hurricane Joachim there were huge waves breaking just feet from the large windows that surround the dining room. Service was fabulous, in every respect. We had the mussels in a saffron-infused broth and the marinated octopus for appetizers. Both were excellent. For our main meal we ordered the linguine with clams, the strip steak and the lobster ravioli. All were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The waiter split a house salad between two of us and it was lovely, with a creamy vinaigrette. The wine list is extensive and fairly priced. We started and ended at the gorgeous bar, enjoying wonderful service from the attentive and helpful bartenders - thanks, Jim! Youre a peach, as are each of your associates. All in all, dining at the Coast Guard House has set a new standard for us when we consider future dining experiences. We cant wait to return.

It was busy Labor Day weekend so we understood the 45 minute wait. We ordered some drinks at the bar and sat outside. When it came time for our table, we ordered the very second we sat down down (drinks and food) since we had all that time to make a decision. I asked the waitress about bread since we were hungry. Twenty minutes went by with no bread or drinks. We went to the restroom and on the way asked for bread at least. When we returned to the table there was still a wait so we put in a complaint. The answer was it was too busy. When the lobster Bique and clam chowder came there was no actual meat in either! Such a disappointment. We noticed how overpriced everything was for mediocre food. Chowder bowl was more a cup poured in a bowl with a large rim to make it appear larger. The swordfish was over cooked and came with plain arugala for $19. Just too much for average. Our waitress only checked on us once and it was asking us how our food was before we even took a bite!!! One of us had to go inside to the bar to order a water since we couldnt get our waitress for so long. Table next to us had same problem and didnt even get drinks or bread (we only did because we asked) Beautiful view though....

This is a gem of a restaurant in Naragansett. Friends of ours who have a summer cottage here told us this was the best restaurant in the area, and I can see why. Wonderful service, beautiful views from inside or out- right on the waters edge, nice selection of drinks, and if course, fantastic food. We loved everything! We had 3 little ones with us. Our 9 month old and and 17 month old did very well. However, our 3 year old was not into sitting in her chair, no matter how great the view. The waitstaff was very helpful and sympathetic with her plight, lol. She did finally settle down, and we continued to enjoy our evening, though she probably would have preferred being left at home with a babysitter. For teens on up, this is a perfect special dinner place in Naragansett. For little ones, you know your kids best, so just be aware that it might be a lot of sitting for them. They do have selections for kids, we got ours chicken nuggets, which were gobbled up. For my entree, I got a pasta and seafood mixture in a delightful sauce, about $22, I think. Prices are a smidge above average, but definitely worth it.

Service was professional throughout, great menu, very reasonable prices given the location, service and quality of the food. Daughters medium skirt steak came out closer to well done. We mentioned it to the manager who had brought it out, but just as we did, my daughter said it was fine. He mouthed, "thank you" (ie, he knew they dodged a bullet on that one). Nevertheless, a perfect medium skirt steak materialized at our table a few minutes later. Wifes scallop dish was flawless. Its easy to get perfectly cooked scallops in many places, its not as easy to find them paired with anything as delicious as what they have here. Definitely recommended, and fairly priced at $26. My swordfish was a generous portion paired with a zesty tomato gazpacho, very good. Dessert was the coconut tres leche, also delicious. Despite the restaurant being full, our water glasses never got below half full, very attentive service throughout. Wed go back in a flash.

A vast improvement in food, service, and atmosphere over visits from years ago. This distinctive old stone building is built right on the corner of the iconic Towers of Narragansett, perched over the water with waves crashing below the expansive patio. And now finally they have a restaurant worthy of such a location. Everything that weve gotten on the last two visits has been perfect -- the lobster BLT, the clam cakes, the exquisite clear broth chowder. You really cant go wrong. If the weather is nice, sit upstairs on the deck. But even on miserably stormy days, the sheltered all-glass dining room affords dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Recommended.

My experience was not that great! While waiting for our table on the deck, we sat at the bar for a drink. We put a 20 on the bar for a $15 tab. The bartender never came back with our change. My husband ordered the whole clam dinner. (comes with ff and coleslaw) I ordered 6 clam cakes with a bowl of white clam chowder. When our food came I got 6 clam cakes and my husband got a small plate of clams. I asked about the ff and slaw and she said thats what we ordered and walked away! As she was walking away I asked about my chowder. We did get the rest of our food, but we had to talk to a manager. .

Great date night location. The picture was from our table inside the bar area. Food was very good, a slow, liesurely fine dining experience. Dont expect a quick in and out meal. Service was very good and presentation was well done. My only issue was it was so loud my date and I could not even have a conversation for the first hour we were there due to loud, drunk bar lady laughing and screaching the whole time. Once that loud group was seated, our experience improved dramatically. Suggest requesting a table away from the bar, but the view was very nice.

Food was good, but nothing really special, prices seemed appropriate for the quality of the food. What you are really experiencing is the setting of this restaurant. We sat on the terrace right on the ocean, what an extraordinary view. I couldnt think of a better environment to enjoy some good food. Our waitress was very friendly and added to the positive experience. Food came out quickly enough, especially since the restaurant seemed pretty busy (Sunday early evening.) Will definitely be visiting this restaurant again, cant beat that view!

This was the first time I have been up to Rhode Island. This place was recommended so we saved it for our last night. It was amazing. We didnt have to wait and got immediately sat outside in a perfect location to see the bay. Our server, Michael was excellent. He suggested a few things for us go try. The salads with steak, swordfish, and linguini with clams were amazing!! He also suggested the blueberry pie...yummm! We didnt have much room, but for this dessert, yes we sure did! We will surely return when we vacation up there again.
