I moved here from San Francisco, California 8 years ago. I grew up eating traditional Chinese food. Having gone to most every Chinese buffet in Rhode Island, I can honestly say that Hong Kong Buffet has the best tasting food and also the most traditional Chinese food around. The food reminds me so much of my grandmas cooking. Most of the Chinese buffets around Rhode Island dont even serve real Chinese food. Its all made-up American-Chinese food...fried foods or foods with overly sweet sauces. I am so glad that Hong Kong Buffet has authentic Chinese food....not like the other buffets that serve food that most Chinese would never eat. Just like most buffets, you will encounter food that has been sitting to long and may not be up to par.....but remember this is a buffet and to be expected. Best time to eat here is between 5:00pm and 7:00pm when the food is replenished quite often and at its tasty best.

Honestly, the people of Cranston, Rhode Island must have no clue of what Chinese food should look and/or taste like. The food here is completely suspect. I have no idea how this place gets more than one star. Do NOT believe the ratings. I love going to buffets, and wish I didnt, however I am a normal person with legitimate viewpoints. The meat does not look real. I can tell you it is imitation. There are one or two dishes that "sort of" taste good and the rest of the food is garbage. The place is filthy, the staff looks tired and overworked, and the food is flat out disgusting. If you want to spend 15 bucks on a dinner buffet, go to a gas station. When you have to cut things and half to drive to determine whats inside, you probably shouldnt be eating it. Enjoy at your own demise, I assure you you will be disappointed later.

We are regular customers at the Hong Kong Buffet and today we came because it was my sons 8th birthday. We asked the waitress if they could sing happy birthday to my son and they said that they dont do that and then five minutes later they go to the people next to us and sing them happy birthday with a nice little cake. Then we went to the manager to report what happened and then he said that she couldnt say that, my husband asked him how do you know what she said if you werent there. The other managet tried to fix it by saying that her English is very limited...Im so upset that that Im not even continuing writing my bad experience, we are just not coming back here ever again...

A large selection of food, carving stations and sushi during the dinner servings. The buffet is kept fresh and is replenished often. There is a woman who monitors the buffet and sends orders to the kitchen on what dishes need refilling. It is almost comical to see her with her large microphone, barking out orders in Chinese and watching servers run out of the kitchen with pans of food. The food is good, though some of it is obviously frozen prepared. The Gen Taus chicken and shrimp is overly sweet as are the crab rangoons, more like a dessert than an appetizer. Has far as buffets go it is one of the beast I have eaten at.

Great chinese buffet, Id dare say the best within a 50 mile radius. Some favorites are sautee clams, fried half crabs, roast beef/prime rib, calamari, teriyaki beef, and spring rolls, but no snow crab legs. They have a limited selection of sushi, mostly california rolls--no unagi rolls. The cold stuff is fresh: cantaloupes, salads, cocktail shrimps. The price is around $13 pp during dinner, which is well worth it because the food is fresh and truly delicious. The smell outside the parking lot will draw you in immediately.

I dont understand why HK buffet has such high reviews here. There are at least 10 other truely great resturants nearby. HKs food is awful and bland. It is one of the worst buffets I have been to. Nothing tasted good and everything was either under or overcooked. I feel bad to leave such a low review. The service was good for a buffet; plates were cleared quickly and our drinks were refilled in a timely manner. But ultimately the food was just terrible. My friend and I actually left the buffet hungry.

They try to rush you out the door by continuously coming to your table or peaking around the corner at you. I was there for 45 minutes the lady kept hanging around the table and kept peaking around the corner at us. It wouldnt even be an exaggeration to say she looked around the corner at my table 45 times in 45 minutes, she made me feel extremely uncomfortable like she just wanted me out of there as quickly as possible, very unprofessional. I think Ill be going elsewhere in the future.

The food is actually really good. The selection may be smaller than some of the other buffets in the area but i would say the flavor is better and had some options but found at the other buffets Ive been to. I brought my wife for the first time and she thought it was delicious. Shes a major fan of Chinese food and buffets especially. She was overjoyed to see they offer bubble tea. The food is great. The staff are attentive and friendly. 4 out of 5

I have been going to this place for over 10 years we love it and my 4 year old and 7 year old love it also. The staff and management are very well established. They even started serving FILET steaks and sushi on Weekends during dinner time. The beef teraki is to die for !! I would never trust susi on a chinese buffet but I do at this place and after going here for 10 years I trust this place. A++

For years my favorite was the Empress, which eventually closed. I have enjoyed the Hong Kong for years but for the last few times the boneless spear ribs are 90% fat and the chicken and oyster sauce was so overcooked! The pork in the rice is all fat.It has been very good for years so I hope this isnt a trend.

In NJ, group of us will drive a couple hours for a good restaurant, especially a good buffet restaurant. This is not one! However, after checked out the area, this is a go to place with lots of varieties. And liquor is served at site. For small or large group of people, this will be a good place to be.

This restaurant is definitely one of the best buffets I have ever been to. The atmosphere is great and the waitresses are always sweet. For the unlimited amount of food, the price for one person is a steal. Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a great buffet for a great price.

Worst place Ive ever been... food was not even warm, tasted bad, not much of a selection... Desserts had an odd taste after one bite...Water tasted like chlorine after only one sip... Big waste of money.... Wouldnt even give it any stars if that was an option.

Great Place. Its the only buffet in Rhode Island that serves beef teryaki and sticky chicken. Need I say more. The service is good, the food is normally hot. The only knock is the limited desserts but aside from that I would recommend this place to anyone.

My family has been coming here for years!! So when I can in town I was craving it! Wrong move! Horrible. And that saddens me to say it. The food was terrible, as if it had been sitting out too long. Just not a good experience
