I cannot believe this place is getting such great reviews. My family and I were frequenters at Eastern buffet in Dickson City. The place was small and the atmosphere wasnt that great, but the hibachi chef there was so sweet and the flavor of the food was spot-on. We were sad when they closed down, but decided to check out Royal. And lest anyone think I am a picky snob, we even visited again after the first horrible visit. The first visit was during their grand opening weekend, I believe, back in early April. It definitely wasnt the first day, but it was close to it. It was extremely crowded and insane. I stood up to get food from the hibachi grill and didnt sit back down for another 30 minutes, at least. The food was so-so, not all that flavorful. Customers were never sure where to exit or begin a line, and since there were so many of them, it was just pure havoc and confusion. We left that day feeling semi-satisfied and chalked up all the chaos to the fact that it had just opened. Of course it would be mobbed and a little disorganized. Our second visit was just a few weeks ago, and I cant believe it but this was actually much worse. I dont think our waitress once actually looked at us. She kept looking around at everything else, all the people and other tables and what not. From the minute we set foot in the door, I felt like we were being rushed out of there. We were given a seat near the door in the freezing cold. I decided I wasnt even going near the hibachi grill this time, so I just sampled all the different buffet selections, which were pretty decent and flavorful. My husband arrived back to his seat with his food after I was already on my second plate (i.e. after a long while). He was already miffed because the chef at the grill screwed up his order/selections. He had put a steak on his plate and then didnt receive the cooked version. When he spoke up and said, "Wheres the steak?" the chef responded, "You didnt have steak." Everyone waits in line immediately in front of the uncooked food, so it was difficult to even rectify the situation. That, in and of itself, was pretty annoying. I mean, you wait all this time for your food to get cooked and they somehow lose track of what you put on your plate? And then the topper was sitting down and tasting an absolutely flavorless meal. I mean, it literally tasted like nothing. All in all, it was just a less than satisfactory dining experience. And we are certainly not picky! Like I said, we loved Eastern (which was sort of like a dive buffet). But they compensated by being very sweet and friendly people, regardless of how busy the place was. The employees at Royal seem to only care about the influx of customers and thus, the money. Awful. We will NEVER go back. I cant believe how many good reviews this place is getting. I know several people that have said the very same things Im saying now.

Ive always loved the Royal Buffet but my lunch date there yesterday was highly unnerving. My boyfriend and I decided on chinese and went to royal for a little afternoon date. The food was good but the service was horrible!! I was barely finished eating and brought my check after about 10 minutes of being there so I felt rushed and began to eat faster especially since the bus girl stood over my shoulder waiting for the check. My boyfriend paid the bill and within seconds we were brought back the book and the girl stood there over us waiting for a tip. I asked her for a box to bring the remainder of my food home, as i felt uncomfortable with someone watching me eat and she brought me one so i put my food in the box. While all of this was going on the girl came up to my boyfriend demanding a tip saying he hadnt included it in the bill. So Codi then informed her finally that he wasnt going to tip her. She stood there baffled but we refuse to tip the people there because technically they arent waitresses and dont need to be tipped. And i especially refuse to tip someone who has the audacity to demand a tip!!! I have many years of actual waitressing experience and Im very aware of the right and wrong ways of being a server. Finally, I was about to stand up and walk out with my box of left overs and the girl stood in front of me and told me she needed to weigh it and see how much it cost. I proceed to repeat what she said and then stated in a harsh tone that i refuse to repay for food i had already purchased. I then left the box on the table and walked out. I was completely shocked. I think they need to take some management classes here in America to see how things work here. If you decide to eat here make sure you are firm with your words and dont let them push you around.

worst buffet in scranton..dickson city area...first...they acted like i was lying about my sons age becasue he is tall...and made me pay adult buffet price...we sat thru the dinner with dirty plates on the table....our drinks never refilled...while the waitresses talked about my family in chinese..then the lady while i was paying and i mentioned my concern about my son..continued to mention that he seemed too tall for his age..are u serious??? such awful discrimination!!!!! when it comes to my kids there is no price tag...but i shouldnt have had to pay full price...besides that we went about 7pm..at around 8 they were putting food away..the ice cream was put away....yet still seating people...the food really isnt that great and the hibatchi..pretty bad....if you want a good chinese buffet..try teppanyaki or south side in scranton...and besides royal is way more expensive than all the others $10.99...way over priced!!!!!
