With all the hoopla about the prime rib I thought I would give it a try. I like it VERY rare and always ask the server to check with the kitchen to see if any VERY rare is available. Now this is a place where you can reserve your prime rib on line when you make your reservation, I did not reserve but was told there were 2 portions available and that VERY rare was available. The servers in my area of the restaurant were 17 years old or so (I overheard some ladies at the next table ask him how old he was) and he implied to me that the prime rib was slow roasted to order. I realized that this could not be quite right, but I ordered the $44+ serving off prime rib anyway. I was very disappointed. For that money you would expect something expertly prepared. I am something of a prime rib aficionado and have tried it in many, many places. The rib I was served was not at all tender and lacking seasoning and showed all the signs of not being slow roasted. If it was...It didnt show in the final product. It was served on the bone, which I prefer, but should have had the fat cap removed, seasoned, fat cap put back on and tied up to slow roast. This gets the seasoning into the meat much better. The plate was extremely hot as was the bottom of the meat where it was seared or broiled before going into a lake of au jus. But like I said, not tender at all...not even the narrow outer muscle was very tender. I can get a much better rib for half the price, same size or larger, in my local tavern. The rest if the meal and accompaniments were ok. The soups were ok, not phenomenal. The king crab cream soup was a little bland, the New England clam was better. The dessert menu lacked creativity and I suspected that many were purchased. Espresso creme brulee was obviously not purchased but the wife would rather have pain, traditional vanilla...so we did not get dessert. I do have a culinary degree from the Philadelphia restaurant school from years ago before all these little tech schools even existed.

Service and Atmosphere - very good and very nice. Food? Okay.... Disappointed that prime rib was not available to us as it wasnt "reserved" when we called. At the time we made the reservation, we were told that sometimes they run out of prime rib, but since our reservation was 3:00 on Sunday, "it shouldnt be a problem." First thing we were told when seated was that since we didnt reserve any prime rib dinners, we couldnt order any. Two of my dinner companion selected the "queen" filet cut (12 ounces). Since the "king" cut was only $3 more, I decided to try that - more out of curiousity than anything. The king cut is advertised as 18 to 20 ounces. I have to admit that I am not a "filet" expert - but these filets were just okay. All three had that "extra part" attached to it with a lot of fat and grissle - an extra part that I would expect to be removed in a semi high end steak restaurant. The filets were ones that I would pass over if I was selecting from the meat counter at Wegmans. The steaks were cooked properly, but I was slightly dissapointed because of the waste. I ordered mine medium and I should have requested mine to be "butterflied" as the outside was too done for me. The king cut was not noticeably larger than the queen cut - I think 50% larger should be noticeable. The salads were very good, the sides were fine and the onion rings were terrific. The deserts were just okay - I dont think any of the dessert items we ordered were housemade (the peanut butter cake and pecan pie). My companions rated the experience higher than myself. Its an hour drive each way for us and for me, it is not worth the trip. My companions want to come back - I wont argue with them - next time Ill reserve the prime rib though.

We arrived 10 minutes or so before our reservation, so we planned on having a drink in the bar/lounge area. We found 3 seats at the bar and began to try to get the (two) bar tenders attention to no avail. After trying for awhile and about to give up, we were greeted and asked if we would mind waiting while other patrons drinks were prepared first. No problem. So after 10mins we were called to be seated without drinks. :(. Once seated, we were lead to a quaint corner in a very small room. It was cozy. The temps were 80+ which were pleasing given it was snowing outside. Our orders were taken and we enjoyed our company and lively conversation. Both my wife and I ordered Filet, of which were both prepared Very Well done. Problem is, I like my steak Medium as I requested it. Both of our steaks were as dry as can be, and so charred and tough the knife could not get through. My wife brought hers home after explicitly asking the server not to. I tried to eat it on day 2 and question its species. Furthermore, since I ordered a lobster in addition to my meal, I was surprised it was an australian de-shelled tail and not a Sweeter Maine Tail, this aussie was not sweet at all, and contained a membrane that was so chewy and hard, that I found it difficult to eat this tasteless creature. It will be a very long time until I return to the Seven Stones Inn for this kind of cheaper grade food and unfriendly service. Additionally the loud noise in the restaurant made it very difficult to hear our friends. By the time our Entres arrived much of the restaurant had cleared out and we were left in peace. Feb 2, 2013 Dining Experience. For those of you who are thinking about going to the SSI, look elsewhere.

My husband and I had reservations at Seven Stars this evening. We hadnt been there in awhile and we looked forward to a nice experience. We arrived a little later than our appointed time, but we were still sent to the bar to wait for our table. It was a pleasant interval, but still an annoying ploy. When we were ready to order our dinner we were informed that the smaller (12-14 oz) lobster tails were unavailable, and two smaller tails were being substituted. I expressed my concern to my server about the smaller tails being overcooked - he assured me they would not be overdone. It took awhile for our meal to arrive - not a complaint - we hate being rushed!. However, when everthing did arrive, the tails were way overdone. Our server went to his manager - she insisted that she bring me another entree, even though I stated that my husband would be finished with his meal. I felt that she chose to force that on us, instead of removing their error from the bill. We took most of my meal home - which is not the same experience. My husband and I enjoy fine dining and dont mind paying the price. However, at Seven Stars the service and food quality is lacking - but not the prices!! My overdone lobster with garlic mashed potatoes and overly salted sautéed spinach was over $50! Sadly, we live in Upper Pottsgrove now, where we have many chains - Applebys, Chillis, Red Lobster - none of which we choose to patronize. We prefer privately owned quality establishments. The Columbia is long gone - I guess The Kimberton Inn is all we have left - not a bad choice at all. Especially if Larry McKenna is playing.
