Yes, do believe the rave reviews. This is a true gem. A lovely, quiet atmosphere coupled with the cozy size and the tea lights on the tables make for an ambiance that is unforgettable in todays world. The menu is small, which inspires confidence in the dishes that are there. My wife and I employed a trick that helps us keep the cost down. We ordered an appetizer, entree, and desert for one, and divided them each between us. At most eating places, this is easily enough for two. Here it was enough to fill us both without leaving us stuffed. We had the pate maison for starters. This far exceeded my expectations. It was lovely! The pate was served with a salad of baby arugula and endive dressed with a light balsamic. A lovely port reduction was drizzled over the pate and capers and tiny pickles were served on the side. For the entree we had the rabbit, which came with mashed potatoes and tiny button mushrooms and pearl onions in a lovely sauce. As a desert we went with a lovely cheese selection. Manchego with mint jelly, Port Salut with apples and slivered almonds and cranberries drizzled with honey, and Roquefort with fig jelly. This is a truly wonderful destination. Worth a trip to Philly.

This restaurant is a gem. It is an authentic French cafe/bistro in the middle of Philadelphia, similar to one of those "cafe particulaire" in small town France where the chef and his wife live upstairs and the menu changes with whatever is fresh in the market. Its a small, 15-table affair with two attentive waitresses that occupies the living and dining room of a converted townhouse - you will bump into the next table easily and will hear their conversations on a busy night. To avoid that, try going on a weekday. We went there on a Thursday night and got a table very easily- when making reservations, the website does not take them; you leave a message and someone will call you back (yes, quite quaint). I had a superb asparagus with poached egg and a great steak frites. My friend had a jumbo shrimp dish. The wine list, mostly French, was adequate. The dessert list that night (which we had no room for) was a taste and pot de creme. Service was efficient and polite. I would recommend this place highly.

My wife and I had a last minute babysitter offer that we took advantage of and decided to go out for a nice dinner. La Boheme had been a favorite of ours but hadnt been to Zinc. We were very surprised that the food was fantastic - my appetizer was a special of pork cheeks which I never had before, but my mouth waters just thinking about how savory they were. The waitstaff were excellent and the bar itself (made of zinc and imported from France) is cool. Will definitely make a point to go back.

Loved it! My husband surprised me for my birthday by choosing this place. The food was delicious. The atmosphere is very much like a bistro in Paris, no throbbing relentless beat like some other restaurants. The service was great. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the days special which was butter poached lobster with endive and beets. It was delicious as was the butternut soup and octopus appetizer that we shared. Plum tart for dessert.

The food was wonderful, the ambiance totally Parisian and the service excellent. We had the window seat, even with a last minute reservation...we conversed and ate for over three hours...and were never made to feel as if we overstayed our welcome. It was a completely European dining experience--the only drawback was that it was not a byo--and the wine list was rather pricey.

Lovely little bistro in a very unassuming location. Nice bar dominates the dining room. The menu was interesting but it seems unchanged in years. The mussels were huge, and the flat iron steak - not usually something I order - was actually very good. David was helpful and gracious as our server.

excellent, interesting food (how can chicken be this good?) in a pleasant storefront setting. the byo policy is a real plus, and makes the high prices bearable, but service can be a bit amateurish given the kitchens strengths.
