Some friends and I came here for a birthday dinner last night, and had the worst experience with service. The food was very good, althogh the portions were smaller than depicted on the menu. We had a reservation for 830pm. At 9 they told us they were setting up our table, and at 915 they finally seated us. So Im not sure what the purpose of the reservation was. We asked our waitress a few questions about some items on the menu, but she really didnt know what we were asking. Once we ordered we did wait quite a while for the meats to come out, and all the meats and veggies came out separately. Everyone at the table ordered a la carte, and 3 of us out of 5 ordered the filet. When she finally brought it out, she set it down and said it was a serving of 2 filet plates. After she said she brought everything out, we had to tell her we were missing several items. 1 filet, our fried bacon appetizer that never appeared, a side of spinach and a side of bacon wrapped asparagus, and 2 sides of garlic paste. She apologized and said the kitchen was backed up. But why did we have to tell her? She wrote everything down, why didnt she realize we were missing so many things? She came right back and said the filet she brought out earlier was for all 3 orders, even though originally she said it was only 2, but she said shed ask the kitchen to make another order. We waited about 20 minutes when she came back and asked if everything was ok. Had to remind her of our missing food, and again she said the kitchen was backed up. I bought this the first time, but how does a kitchen get this badly backed up when most of the food we ordered was to be cooked by us? All they had to do was prep it. After another 20 minutes or so we got the spinach and the fried bacon, but no filet. Had to ask again. Finally got that and 2 sides of the crunchy garlic oil instead of the garlic paste. Once we were finished eating we asked for the check, and we all thought for sure that something was going to be taken off the check or discounted given the abysmal service. We should have known better since the manager, Serge, never came by to check on us the entire service. They charged full price for everything. We tried talking to the manager to explain all the issues we had with the service and he blamed us because we ate the food. We were hungry and getting served in small increments, of course we ate everything. Serge refused to take anything off the check or provide any discount. On top of all this they had the nerve to include a 20% gratuity. Nowhere on the menu did it state parties of 5 or more were automatically assessed 20% gratuity. We refused to pay the gratuity and paid cash for all the food we consumed and left with Serge telling us we werent worth his time. This is really ashame because we all liked the food very much, but the food could not make up for the lousy service or the manner in which we were treated.

Ive eaten at the Chicago location on several occasions and have had only pleasant exerperiences. However, after being open for 3 years, this location still leaves much to be desired. Our party included six diners and we opted for the the $45 dollar buffet. Our server was attentive but at times seemed overworked, and forgetful to our requests (extra sauce, lettuce, changing the grill). As for the food, the portions arent generous but they can be better executed (our Ribera came with shavings that resembled ground beef rather than steak). The protein was fairly seasoned but lacked diversity in flavor (you might as well order and stick to your favorite cut). Although the lamb chops were nice initially, our second serving lacked the same consistency in flavor. We only requested additional lettuce once but service was slow and when it did arrice, it was barely enough to serve our party (its just lettuce!). And lastly, for desert, they were all out of every flavor of icecream. (It was 9pm). We were relegated to smores but the serving plates were not clean speckled with grey streaks of metal or grease. Our bill totaled about 250 before taxes and tip. At this price point it think that the kitchen needs to be better trained to meet the demands of a Saturday dinner service. Hiring more service staff would help as well to keep house looking clean. (The bathrooms, floors, and tables are neglected). In the end we were full but any buffet would have met that requirement, we came here for " quality Japanese meal" and for that, I think Gyu misses the mark.

I went there with my vegetarian girlfriend. First and last time!!! We started with a Miso and Spicy Tofu soup. Good. Then my girlfriend got some vegetables to grill: corn, zucchini, asparagus. $3 for 3 slice of zucchini, seriously? You can get 4 organic zucchini at Trader Joes for $2.99!!! Dont believe at the picture on the menu. Because I love the the meat I took the Filet Mignon to grill. They served me a plate with meat, definitely not filet. Too much fat!!!! Unfortunately I know very well the filet. I complained with the waitress and she went to change it. But she come back with the same cut of meat!!! Cmon!!! Word of advice. If you want to eat a filet, and you dont know the cut, take a look at some pics on the web before to avoid they steal your money.

Sadly, this isnt a place that I will frequent. Its a hot spot in the neighborhood that generally requires a reservation, which made me think it was going to be a new favorite. Im hoping the restaurant was having a bad night, vs being a bad establishment. The taste of the food was nothing to praise, the cocktails a bit pricey(and boring), and the service was disappointing. The orders came out wrong each time, the table grill only half way worked, and the staff were not able to tell me what ingredients were in certain dishes (main ingredients). It took 2 hours for our order to be completely brought out, and it was on a night where there were empty tables. Very disappointed, and it isnt a new favorite.

Terrible customer service. My wife, her mother and I came in and the woman told us it would be a 20 minute wait, so we came inside and looked at menus. After waiting around for 45 minutes, none of the staff had said anything, so I went up and asked them when we would see a table, and they said that we were the third party to be seated next. Clearly they had buried us in the chart for some reason. I have no idea why, but none of the three rotating servers said anything conciliatory or showed any concern. As I was asking this, my wife watched one of the servers lick her fingers before handling food, at which point we wanted nothing more to do with the place and left. Makes my skin crawl.
