Baby Blues may want to sing the blues. The song may sound like "Jimmy Crack Corn and I dont care" -because after my recent take-out order, Jimmy might be on some crack because he definitely dont care about the food hes serving. The first time mi lady and I were there, shortly after they opened this location we werent impressed. After this 2nd time there, well never go back. First off, how can you screw up a burger when theres 5 restaurants on the block that make a good burger? I asked for a mid-rare and it came raw. We ordered a bunch of sides at which most had absolutely no flavor at all. The mac & cheese, cole slaw, collared greens went right in the trash they were that bad. The fries -no flavor, mashed potatoes -salvaged with as little as added salt (need I say more about the lack of care here?) The only thing I CAN say that was good was the all white half chicken and the pork and beans side dish. Basically to sum this up, I gave this place a try and I was disappointed. I will from now on choose either of the 2 restaurants to the right of this establishment. Least they can cook a burger.

Tried on a recommendation, got delivery via grubhub. Ordering and payment went fine, but between the food prices and the extra fees it was a little steep. Of the things we tried, the Willie Brown burger was quite good, really the star of the meal, though honestly burgers were just erroneously prepared "medium" and marked how they were supposed to be prepared. Also, they didnt include enough sauce after offering a choice of sauces at checkout (I can understand why they wouldnt deliver the burgers sauced, that much was a good idea. Sides: The "mixed" fries they bundle with the burgers are decent enough. Sizable portions, the sweet potato fries are good, and the seasoning on the regular fries is decent (though I suspect we got old fries). The highly-rated mac&cheese did not deliver for $4, just passable. Maybe a $1.50 side or if you had no other way on earth to get mac&cheese. Overall, not quite worth what we paid. Will try again when I have money to blow because I would like to see if they can properly prepare a pulled pork sandwich.

The atmosphere is really nice and they have a pretty prompt wait staff. The food is really, really bland. The coleslaw was basically cut up pieces of cabbage and carrots....and thats it. I wouldnt call that necessarily coleslaw, Id call it cabbage salad. The mayonnaise pooled at the bottom and tasted rancid. The ribs had plenty have meat and was plenty dry. The sauces, tasted like it was made by the southernly BBQ master of....South Philly. The cornbread, and Im not over exaggerating, made me grimace. I mean, I know they are trying to be really authentic, but smashing corn and adding flour doesnt mean you open a restaurant. Just because you use mamas ingredients, doesnt mean it tastes like mamas cookin. Overall, Its a nice place to get anything as long as it wasnt made by its staff, i.e. beer.

I was excited to have thought i have found a bbq place to eat. The environment is okay if you like your bartender playing on his phone while everyone at the bar is screaming "excuse me" or squeezing through everything including the door from the Sansom street entrance ( I am a slim girl and had to squeeze any direction I went) They forgot one of my sides which i had to go back for. I ordered two platters in which one of them the meat was in a sides container...the fried okra was fried in spicy cornmeal that tasted like it had corn chips crunched in it(disgusting) and the brisket which for sure isnt cooked 14 hours taste better at Arbys. Mac N Cheese and green were good, think I should have got more for my money I was still hungry It was not worth the 40 bucks I paid. Will never return.

When I saw the sliced brisket platter on the menu for ~$17. I thought it was going to be too much meat to eat in one sitting, so of course I ordered it because I was hungry as hell. I was sorely disappointed to see 3 anemic slivers of brisket buried under the sides when the meal arrived. Dont waste your time here. Head out to the Bridgeport Rib House. Thats some real BBQ! BTW, theres one of these Baby Blues in Venice Beach in Los Angeles. Its a spectacular place to eat. I was there for a week and I had to go twice (in a city full of great restaurants) because it was that good. Its too bad this one in Philly is nowhere near as good, not even in the same universe.

Id been meaning to check this place out for awhile, but always kept forgetting about. Im glad I finally got over there. University City is fortunate to have such a good BBQ spot nestled in its heart! An incredibly diverse and reasonably priced menu is sure to be a welcome site for college students. Patio seating offers a fantastic view of the skyline, and the inside, though a bit cramped, offers plenty of seating. A great tap and diverse drink menu makes Baby Blues BBQ a worthy watering hole. Fantastic sides and great french fries basically solidify this as a great night-out restaurant. The service was excellent, as was the food.

This place is cramped and dark. The tables are wobbly and dirty. We were shuffled into a basement area with people passing in and out, bottles of italian dressing everywhere, and bookshelves lined with New York Times bestsellers from 10 years ago. The food is decent, but the portions are pretty small for the price. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a mix of sweet potato and normal fries. For some reason sweet potato fries alone cost $1.50 extra, but it doesnt matter, because these fries came out cold and mushy. The pulled pork sandwich itself was fine, although a bit tough. Overall, I wasnt very impressed by this place.

Finding quality BBQ north of the Mason Dixon is often very difficult (I dont say that as a Southerner, its just a fact), but this place has amazing BBQ. Ive never had a burger or sandwich, but their chicken, ribs, pork, etc. is fantastic. You get to pick two sides, of which there are an abundance of good options. Id say the mac n cheese is a must. Its a little more expensive than the typical University City establishment, but the best BBQ in the city Ive had thus far.

The TX beef rib is tasty and huge. The cole slaw is delicious - seriously, Im going to recreate the recipe. The baked beans were more like boiled beans - nothing to get excited about. The banana pudding was... strange - like an close encounter with banana cream cheese frosting - way too sweet. The cornbread reminds me of the corn cake a Native friend used to make - very tasty, but startling if youve not had it before and are thinking youre getting plain ole cornbread.

Clean and quick. Thats the way I like lunch. I had the BBQ shrimp sandwich. because I wasnt in the mood for a plate full of BBQ that day, no matter how appetizing it smelled and looked. It was no disappointment.. very good. The collard greens on the other hand, were less seasoned than I prefer. Service was very friendly and efficient letting our business meeting go on with no hiccups. Ill be back for those ribs i spied on the menu!
