Easily the most satisfying #gastronomic experience at the @garlicpoet in #Harrisburg. Didnt snap a pic of my starter because I had no idea what I was in for. I started with a beef, tomato, and red wine #bisque served with French bread and turmeric butter, then moved to #shoestringfries topped with braised beef and cheese curds, then a main of #beefshortribs served with turnips, salad, and broccoli Raabe, and finished the evening with #chocolate and granola ice-cream. Wow. What an experience. Hands down, the best new American fare Ive had. The #garlicpoet is a #locallysourced restaurant focusing on new American fare thats environmentally sound. It partners with #aquaponics farms for produce and creates everything in-house, except the bread, which is still local. The atmosphere spoke directly to my inner bookworm: literary theme thats present from the library decor to the classics-inspired cocktails. Visiting this restaurant is the only reason to come to Harrisburg. #newamerican #food #eating #supportlocal

The waiters and bartenders at this place absolutely know their stuff. They are experts on the food and do a spectacular job describing everything. Having said that, this place is EXPENSIVE, and everything on the menu seems to JUST MISS excellence. If youre going to make your noodles fresh, they should be better than the packaged stuff. I appreciate the effort, but enjoyability is more important. The soups and sides are all great. Well portioned, fine-tuned stuff there. But the entrees could easily be 33% less in price and still be better. Ive spent a lot of time in fine dining establishments, as a front of house manager, sous chef, and bartender, and this restaurant doesnt seem to know what it wants to be. It should aim a little lower in the hoity toity department and try to be more accessible and enjoyable.

Eat here. Seriously. I cant recommend it highly enough. Wow. This restaurant was one of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. Great food - you cant go wrong with their soups and salads. The mushroom soup and tomato bisque are excellent, and the herb salad is fresh from the garden and tastes like it. Their autumn spice cake for dessert was fantastic - a not-too-sweet rum cake with pumpkin frosting and caramel. And they make homemade flavored butter for the bread. They combined this with excellent service (our waiter was both knowledgeable and personable) and an atmospheric seating area. Theres the bar if you want tavern style dining, or the poets library for a quieter setting. So glad we ate here instead of Bob Evans or Pizza Hut - its a unique experience.

This place is PHENOMENAL! We came by on a whim when we were driving up to a wedding and got stuck in traffic and happened to pass by and saw the reviews. And were so glad we did - the food was seriously FANTASTIC! We got two appetizers and a small plate so that we could try more things, but the service was exceptional and the atmosphere was wonderful. The entire restaurant is done up in the style of a bookstore, with bookshelves, lots of beautiful wood and literary quotes everywhere. The chefs really know what theyre doing and I highly recommend trying the specials. We liked this place so much were literally planning to drive out of our way (we drive from RVA to Philly to visit family) so that we can stop by anytime were heading up. It really is that good.

This is easily one of the best restaurants in Central PA. They always have delicious and creative foods made from healthy, local ingredients. Dinner entrées are a bit pricey, but the appetizers are reasonable and original. They always have an interesting bisque of the day and soup of the day. The best bisque so far was veal bisque. The fries are also particularly interesting. Their handmade fries are delicious on their ownx but then they add all sorts of amazing toppings such as gravy, cheese, and filet mignon. They also pay attention to the little details, such as the butter, which is freshly made each day with a new unique flavor infusion, such as sundried tomato and bacon, lavender, or cream soda (tastes like whipped cream, but better).

You would be doing your pallet a disservice by not eating here. Service and cuisine are top of their class. The wait staff know their menus in and out. Truly a professional staff, some of the best service I have ever had. We had lunch on mothers day. My father, mother and I had a bison burger. My wife had a crab grilled cheese. For desert we had a flight of their ice cream. One of the best meals, we agreed as a party, that we had in a long time. You can tell chef really pours his heart into dishes. Farm to table and all from scratch. The way it is meant to be. Seriously, just eat here.

I love the fact that they choose natural and locally sourced food (including aquaponiclly grown greens). Very creative theme and menu. Great alternative to standard American chain restaurants. Quality and service rivals the best of what Hershey and most of Central PA has to offer. Our problem was that this kind of food is catered to a special niche. Food choices that many people are not used to. Mabye were just too picky? It was by far the most weve ever paid for a meal. But, it was also the most adventurous time at a restaurant Ive ever had.

My wife and I have come back for the 2nd time. This place has fantastic food! You wont find food or atmosphere like this in any chain restaurant. Food is locally sourced and menu changes seasonally. Dont be fooled by the modest looking location. When you pull up, it doesnt look fancy, but go in anyway. Youll pay about 30% more than at most other chain sit-down places, but its worth every penny...and Im cheap. Our service has been top-notch both visits. I recommend placing the online reservation, as it can get packed on choice nights.

Tried this place last night and absolutely loved it! The server (Anne) was friendly and attentive. She knew the menu inside and out and was helpful with recommending things. Everything from the signature drinks to dessert was great. All fresh ingredients, mostly very local. The pace was very relaxed, too, plenty of time for each course. And we loved being able to order a small or large portion of the entrees, giving us room to try appetizers and dessert. The tomato bisque is a must try item. We will be back!

My daughter took me and my grandson to The Garlic Poet for brunch on Mothers Day. It was the first time for us and what an amazing experience. Never have I tasted such perfect combinations of ingredients and blends of flavors. I wont mention our particular choices, try everything - you will be more than satisfied. Also, I must say that after looking at the menu I was very pleasantly surprised to find everything so reasonably priced. Rating his meal from 1 - 10, my grandson gave it a 200 and hes right!

Hands down our favorite restaurant. We regularly drive over two hours just to come here. Everything is prepared and seasoned impeccably. You really cant go wrong with anything on the menu, but our personal favorites are the pale ale fondue, short rib grilled cheese, and the chefs burger du juor. The service is always top notch, and the price is honestly great for the quality and portions. If you plan on visiting on a weekend during dinner it may help to make a reservation, especially around holidays.

Dont let the location throw you. The tacky, dated hotel exterior keeps away the uninformed. Inside is a restaurant which increases the value of the hotel. Local farm to table with stunning quality. I showed up around 5pm mid-week and no reservations were required, but things got busy fast. I mentioned to a friend that I was going back to Harrisburg and looking forward to a great meal... he said, "Garlic Poet?" That may sum the place up!
