Grosssss gross grossss.....worst food ive had sonce Ive moved here. If i could give them less then a 1 star i would. First off super dirty work space, open kitchen so you see everything. The food was super overly salty ....and practically got no pork which was half of what we order... but the real kicker the real reason my bf and have agreed to never go back again, is the food was old and smelled & tasted like mold... i was sick for a few days after this. I immediately went to my favorite sandwich shop to try and get rid of the sick feeling and taste from my mouth .... we spent if not as much but more money to go get better food right after. Because we had to throw away our food amd leave. I told the entire staff at the sandwich shop not to go...to even avoid it at all costs. The meat was gross, the bbq sauce was funky something was super off about it. The valcano chicken was literally chicken with sweet & spicy red chilli sauce from a bottled poured over are entire meal...ALL OVER.. So much sauce i couldnt even take more then a few bites before i stopped eating. The pineapple in the pineapple rice was old rancid, along with the cabbage which made my bf i both instantly sick. Never ever go here. I read reviews before i go to new places and i wish i could have had better info before I wasted my time and money on this place. This is not Hawaiian food, anyone who has had Hawaiian food would instantly realize this food is garbage.

I have eaten at Kona many, many times in the 15 years since theyve opened, more times then I care to say. I ate there for the first time, the week they opened and the food has always been consistently great, authentic huli-huli style BBQ, that Steve smokes daily. Ive actually watched him tend to his BBQ out back. I have tried the other "Hawaiian" places around town (as well as some in other cities) and I prefer Konas food. The other places around town do feel a little much like a chain, Kona is definitely a mom and pop. You get big portions for the money and their prices have been the same since they opened. As for the comments about the flavor of this or that and the use of "liquid smoke" all I can say is that I have eaten here since they opened and the food is just a good as it was then and Im pretty sure Steve doesnt have a need to use liquid smoke. Ive tried everything on the menu and some I like more than others, just like any food at any place. Maybe try something else on the menu next time? Someone said that it made them upset that there are items listed on their menu that they dont have on hand, well that just means next time get in before they sell out... ;)

The food is alright. Its just bbq with their select sauces on top depending on what you order. The volcano chicken is pretty decent with the sweet and spicy chili sauce. Noodles are always cooked wrong and crunchy in the middle, free of any sauce and seeming old. I love this place for when i get home late and cant cook. But if they struggle with business in the future Im sure the awkward tip pushing on the debit card machine and bad sides will do it. The pineapple slice thrown in the box is what make it "Hawaiian". Last order of bbq wasnt charred, looked boiled and rushed. I dont recommend this to people who want a side with their entree. Theres just a huge lack of ingredients to pull anything together.

Awesome food. Better than hawian time . Hawian time is a joke its way more expensive and not as good. Kona has good portions for price. Go 2 spot if im on the go n Springfield. Volcano chicken is super good. The employees are polite and fast exept they got this new dude working there now who is stupidly slow at taking orders / leaves you on the phone 4 ever waiting to place an order after 5 min i decided 2 drive there instead.but other than that employee they are in point . Cant beat the amout of food for the price . Hard 2 find places that have gluten free options that can fill me up for under 10$ and taste bomb

I got the volcano chicken and the BBQ chicken with sides of the wok fried noodles. The volcano chicken was the best. Very yummy. Not super super spicy. The BBQ chicken was ok. I wasnt a huge fan of the BBQ sauce they use. Good but not amazing. The noodles were ok. I have definitely had better. Over all, I might eat there again for the volcano chicken but probably not very often. Very nice employees though and they were fast at getting the food ready for me.

to start I wanted a bbq pulled pork sandwitch and they dident even have buns so a sandwitch was out of the question so I redirected my attention to the kalua pork witch was the pork and 2 sides. The pulled pork was good but needed to be trimed of the fat a lil better and the pan fried noodles seemed as if they had been sitting there for a good 2+ hours. I had been wanting to eat there for a while now an I was pretty disapointed. I think they can do better!

Tri Tip was overcooked and oversauced. I think itd be better smoked vs grilled. BBQ Chicken was great, well cooked and tasted good. Pineapple fried rice needs more ingredients, its just pineapple and rice. It needs onions, peas, carrots, and garlic! Teriyaki noodles werent bad, a little oversauced due to the tri tip sauce being on it. Portions were big! Kona beers and music were nice additions, I would come back if I needed lunch and was in the area.

Warning to the wise, Hawaiian plate lunch tends to be saucy. That said my lunch was on point. A delicious experience from start to finish. Staff was friendly, place was decent. Under a delectable layer of sauce lurked excellent BBQ flavor. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. Definitely not a place to pass up. Some of the most authentic flavor outside of Hawaii Ive had.

Good food. This place is packed during meal times, lots of local workers come in for a quick bite, thats got to tell you something! Restaurant isnt the nicest, but this place is basically a really good food cart which moved to a bigger permanent location. Good options for size and type of food, quick, comes in to go box. Getting hungry just writing this review.
