Over the last three years my sweetie and I have visited Dragonwell Bistro every time we can when we go down to portland! Id say weve dined there about 5 times and every time have had the same waiter-He goes by John or Masa and he is THE BEST waiter I have EVER encountered. We were wowed our first visit and it was a few months later before our second visit-and Masa remembered us! And he always remembers us when we get the chance to dine there--again, over three years, weve dined there 5 times. Our last visit to Dragonwell, about 6 months ago, was our first in over a year. Masa immediately recognized us and made us feel like he was happy to see us. We were definitely happy to see him again :) he even remembered what drinks we get, and at no charge, he upgraded our drinks-he also tends the bar and makes great cocktails-to include top shelf liquor instead of the cheaper house brands at no charge just because he was so happy to see us and appreciates how much we love Dragonwell! DRAGONWELL BISTRO IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD!! Ive done some traveling in my life and dined in a wide range of restaurants-from dives to 5 star fancy restaurants-and none even come close to the experience I alway have at Dragonwell. From the service, pricing, selection, drinks, atmosphere, freshness of the products, and (very important) just how great the food tastes-fresh and not over sauced or seasoned, always cooked to perfection and the natural flavors are accentuated. I will be dining there again finally in a week from tomorrow and I cant wait!

I wanted to like this place, but the experience was just very poor all around. A friend and I ate here. He arrived early, and despite the dining area only being at 1/10th capacity, he had to wait 7 minutes to be seated. He then waited another 10 minutes (I arrived in this time) to place an order for a drink. The service was slow all around, and not overly pleasant, it seemed like we were doing them a disservice by being in their restaurant. The food was delivered in a reasonable time frame, however, the quality left much to be desired. My friends food was tepid, though flavorful. My meal was chewy, and covered in a thick, syrupy sauce. I have had better quality food, at food carts, or the Safeway deli, at a fraction of the cost. All in all, our meals totaled $30, which is reasonable for a good meal, but not something I would pay again for the quality, and service we received. After leaving, both of our stomachs were upset for several days after, nothing life threatening, but when you drop $30 on a meal, good service, and food that doesnt leave you feeling ill should be expected. If they can provide better service, and increase the quality of their food, this location is actually quite charming, this may have been a fluke, but my experience was very poor.

I ordered the five spice cold beef as my appetizer. Tasted like some pretty bad beef jerky. The meat was extremely dry and bland. The leafy vegetables served on the side looked like they were wilting. Similar story for the Sesame Beef I ordered for my entree. The most over sauced thing Ive ever tasted. I wish I could post the pictures of the leafy veggies for the entree as well. I sent them to some friends. And they agreed that they looked quite nasty. I will typically eat anything and am not picky about food, but damn this sucked... I left both of my dishes half finished and that never ever ever happens to me. And I never feel compelled to write reviews. But seriously, f this place. Worst dining experience of my 4 days in Portland and definitely the worst experience for Chinese food, ever. If you want to spend 20 bucks and feel like a complete tool afterwards Dragonwell is the place to go!

Pretty awful food and service... terrible. I had the Kung Pao Chicken, and let me tell you... it was SUPER fatty chicken! Never have I had FATTY kung pao chicken. Disgusting food, and did not even finish it. Service was horrid. I got in half hour after they opened and the waitress was so disgruntled that ushered me along, gave me warm water, had an issue of getting her to get me ice and then I see it. A dead fly on the table. I was done. I will NEVER EVER go here and DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!

Id give it less if I could. Upset stomach, overcharged me so I had to call to have them adjust my bill, and WARNING the soup needs to be dined in in order to get the cheaper price (which was not mentioned on the menu anywhere) and when I mentioned it, the server did not care. Do not waste your money or time here. Sadly, right down the street from my work and I could have used a good Chinese lunch place but NOT HERE!

Dragonwell is on a steep decline. Food/service not that long ago 4 stars- now on a slippery slope to Panda Express level quality. Latest (and last) attempt at lunch was a disaster. Food quality sub-par (poor quality, cold, flavorless) coupled with amateur waitstaff and lack of front-of-house leadership tells the story. Too bad and kind of sad to see a once nice place self destruct.

Nach zwei Wochen intensiver Urlaubsreise und vielen Restaurants hier in Oregon und in Washington, endlich ein richtig gutes Essen mit Top Service. Da müsst ihr hin!

I just recently went Dragonwell for happy hour (July 2010). I wasnt very happy with the food. The orange chicken was not good at all...perhaps better at Fred Meyers "hot food" area. Spicy tuna hand roll wasnt tasty nor was it spicy. Edamame were VERY salty. Although the service was good.. I probably would never go back even if there was cheap happy hour.

Ordered on Amazon now. Worst value for the money Ive had all year. Got the prawns and walnuts for $19. Got seven fried prawns on some lettuce. Absolutely mediocre- and crazy expensive for the money. Stay away from the chefs specials- only thing special is the outrageous price.

One star is generous. We just sat in the dining room at lunch without acknowledgement for 20 minutes. I waved my menu in the air for a while. Nothing. Come on Dragonwell, the food is good, but not at all that good. This echoes other recent reviews. Dont waste your time.

Great place to eat for sure. The food is really good the meat nice and tender it melts in your mouth. Chef has worker there for a long time now. They even have a bar and also do party reservations and will have a big projection screen. The best Chinese Food Ever!!!

Great restaurant and bar. Superb food at fair prices, some specialties you wont find in other Chinese restaurants. Ive been many times for business meetings and Jack Chu, the owner, has always provided complimentary finger food. This is a very nice, classy place.

Try the Happy Hour; great prices and nice decor. I had lunch the day before; it got PACKED....probably because the food was excellent. I liked how the cooked vegetables still had a little snap to them; everything seemed super fresh and so tasty.

Dragonwell Bistro is amazing! Tons of vegetarian options, but they also have a full menu of regular Chinese food options. I go all the time for smoothies which are wonderful. This place is an old favorite, I crave it all the time!
