Amazing food, beautiful decor, and fair pricing. Believe it or not but this place was actually started by a Greek man who decided to change his career when he was 55 years old. He went to San Francisco and studied how the best Chinese food is made then came back and opened the doors. This place is a legend. Likes: Ive been coming to the Mandarin for years and have never had a bad experience. Every item Ive ordered has been cooked to perfection. My favorites are the strawberry chicken and the five taste shrimp. Ive heard that their cashew chicken is excellent but I havent tried it yet. They also have good crab Rangoon and their Apple eggrolls make a delicious dessert. Dislikes: the only complaint I have is that it can be very crowded due to their the popularity of their food. The restaurant can sometimes be a bit crowded and noisy. Be sure to make reservations or plan to wait for a table. It will be worth it!

I went to this place after seeing the reviews and thought it would be a nice place to eat, I walk in with a friend and all the tables are empty but covered in used dishes. The waiter asked us to have a seat at one and started to clean while we sat. (we didnt mind we know it hard in the STREETS) after he cleans he slaps two menus on the table and walks away. We open the menus and begin to deside I find a baby cockroach in the seams of my menu. I cant tell you how the food was I didnt stick around

I heard they have wonderful noodles but they are extremely rude. When I called for a reservation for a party, the person on the other side hung up on me twice after saying hello. I understand that they may have folks that cant speak English, but then maybe they shouldnt haved picked up the phone, instead let it go to voice mail for their patrons to leave messages It is frustrated to call a restaurant with excitement and be greeted with a hello and "slam" and a dead silence!

Our family regularly comes to Mandarin House for the authentic handmade noodles and the "bing" (pancake style savory bread). The kids love it and the food is always delicious. Its a casual mom-and-pop restaurant, run by mom and pop themselves, with children underfoot, so set your expectations appropriately regarding décor and service. But, if you love really good northern Chinese cuisine, then this is a must-visit place in Portland.

I took my kids there and really enjoyed the food. Ive seen some say that the portions are small, but they must have pissed off the staff or something. Our servings were HUGE, and cooked well too. Their service may not meet Murican expectations, but they were polite enough to us even with the language barrier. Be wary of some of the " A Google User" reviews. If you cant use your name, its likely false.

We picked a family-style dinner with hot-lover option but my friend had diarrhea after a couple hours. The meats taste kind of old. Also the hot and sour soup was not "authentic" as it was supposed to be since the cook skipped some "core ingredients" such as wood ear. It was quite bit pricey for a cheap-Chinese-fast-food-level meal($50 for 2 including tips). I would not recommend!

Delicious food, but not much in the way of service. Their special beef soup noodles are the best weve had in 7 years, 2 states, and 2 provinces. Also the hot and sour soup (vegetarian) was unique & great. To get the staffs attention you need to actually wave. But the owner came out to ask & then made a dish specially when she heard about my wife garlic allergy.

I walked through all of downtown Portland to find this place and it looked pretty good so when a friend and I walked in we sat down and started to look at our menu and found a bug Didnt try the food though Im sure its good that is if you can look past the fact that theyre kitchen and food is unsanitary

This place has the best beef with broccoli Ive ever tasted. Everything we ordered was especially delicious, and the atmosphere really cant be beat. I will be back again and again... And as soon as it rains, because I want to be eating this amazing food and listening to the rain on the glass ceiling!

Amazing and authentic Chinese food. Best in Portland and possibly the West coast. Order off of the Chinese menu (Google translate is your friend). I recommend the "spicy chicken" or 麻辣雞丁. Good service, reasonable prices, very clean and pleasant.

Excellent green onion pancakes, with or without fillings and sny of the handmade noodles. Ask the owner Johnny for recommendations if you want to order from the Chinese character page.. Still one of our favorites after three years here!

I was very displeased with the food. Tiny portions of cheap stringy meat and tons of rice, but it costs as much as a high end Chinese place. I dont think Ill be going back.
