My wife and I arrived at 5:30 pm on Valentines day, and expected there would be a crowd and the service would be slower. We were there before the pub filled up. As expected it took a while to be waited on. The rub came when our server didnt place the right order and instead of one of their burgers I was served a small slice of cheese pizza. I told the gal who brought it that that wasnt what I ordered. So she indicated that she would put in the right order and I could have the pizza complementary. I shrugged it off and waited and waited. Our first server came back and apologized and asked if the burger was on order (I thought it was). I waited and waited, and then after a long wait our first server came back again apologized stating the burger was never ordered. That was as long as I could endure. As I stated, I expected a bit longer waits due to the day, but this was well beyond what is acceptable. From our receipt: 2/14/14 6:26 pm Table A26 ID #0505865

Stopped by for lunch today on way home from relaxing weekend. McMenamins manager of some sort loudly conducting an orientation for a couple of new employees at a table next to us. As she read verbatim from the manual through our entire lunch I was taken back by the irony. As she told them how to behave with customers she pretty much monoplolized our lunch and added to the reminder that we were also headed back to work. Seems like this session for their restaurant could have been conducted in a more private area. Learned more than I wanted to know about McMenamins. Food was OK. Service slow as we have found at all locations. Giving it a 2 star for lack of relaxing atmosphere and hopeful other guests can find without going through orientation!

We ordered the bacon blue steamer clams for an appetizer, and there was no bacon nor blue cheese in it. The menu said it was a lb and a half of steamers, there was only 13 small clams in there. No where near 1 1/2lb. My father in law ordered clam chowder and salad, and the salad was wilted and the chowder was so runny it was soup. I ordered a side of truffle fries instead of the regular with my sandwich, but never got the garlic aoli. Our server made it clear she had no interest in being there by not only her actions towards us, but from what we observed her interacting with other customers. This is just once in a long string of bad experiences, but it will be the last.

Its a golden rule - if you are anywhere in the PNW and want good food and there is a McMenamins nearby, its always worth a detour. Perhaps this one doesnt have the character of some of their older and quirkier locations but the food is always excellent and very good value and service always cheerful and efficient. If you like beer or wine then go for their sampler trays (and they always have them even if you cant find them on the menu!) where you get their own standard brews and a couple of seasonal ones thrown in. Always fun for the tastebuds. Nice views across the golf course if you enjoy looking at lunatics trying to hit little balls with sticks but each to his own ;-)

Good food like all McMenamins but a little higher priced, perhaps because it is on a golf course. Great view of the golf course from the dining area. Casual but a little more of a formal feel then many McMenamins, again maybe the golf course thing. ... Also consider about ten miles up the road is Fort Stevens State Park with weekly bird tours, daily kayak tours, junior ranger sessions in the summer, bike rentals, clamming, beaching, hiking... Connected to Fort Stevens State Park is Historic Fort Stevens museum and gift shop. Although moderate sized, both are very nice. The museum also hosts ticketed truck (army personnel carrier) tours of the military installations.

Stopping in here for just a drink or a meal is simply not enough! Each time I visit here I am always just passing through or only at the coast for the day, but I cant wait to stay here and have the time to swing some iron on the gorgeous golf course. Almost all of the passport clues Ive done here are in the restaurant or basement, only taunting your interest in the secrecy and wonder of the hotel floor above, even the sun, and more often rain soaked, patio tempts your imagination with views of the balconied rooms overlooking the classic links.

Recently ate here for breakfast and a dinner. Breakfast was good and staff was friendly. Nice view out and nice looking pub to eat in. Dinner was somehow a very different experience. Even though it was a weekend night the vibe was weird. The lighting is very yellow-ish and gave the nicely done woodwork a drab, depressing feel. Ive been to many other McMenamins and somehow this one isnt quite up to the others. And finally, the servers were barely speaking to guests which added to us just wanting to finish our meal and leave.

The hotel is very beautiful. It overlooks the golf course. Our meal at the Sandtrap Pub inside the hotel was very good. I highly recommend the chowder in the bread bowl. Like most McMenamins locations, the service was friendly but painfully slow. This is not the place to eat if you are absolutely famished. If you plan to bring your dog, be warned that you can only sit on certain areas of the patio depending on the day. On the day we visited there was zero shade on the side of the patio designated for guests with dogs.

We have visited McMenamins twice on two of our most recent vacations. We love the atmosphere: dark and comfortable and sort of reminiscent of an old Irish pub. The food and beer (TRY the stout or the porter) are wonderful- dont let the small menu fool you. The salads are awesome, and do NOT miss out on the pretzel sticks with beer cheese sauce. The pizzas are good, as are the burgers and the cocktail menu is extremely impressive. We will always come back at least once every vacation, its one of my favorites!

Stopping by to collect a stamp and on our way to Long Beach, decided to get some breakfast. The bagel, egg, and cheese with sausage sandwich is absolutely delicious. I have always loved the atmosphere of McMenamins hotel restaurants, they have a unique feel that you cannot find elsewhere. I plan to in future stay there and play some golf, which looks like a challenging course. I recommend anyone stop on by if youre ever in Gearhart, very friendly staff and great food. Definitely have the Rubinator.

After visiting this McMenamins location it quickly became my favorite. Im not a huge fan of beach houses, that aesthetic just doesnt do it for me, but theres something about the Gearhart Hotel that I just really like. The outside and inside are both nice and comfortable looking. The pub is laid out well, the service is good, and the views of the gold course - while not the ocean - are nice too. I plan on using at least one of my passport hotel stays here and am looking forward to it.

one of my worst experiences with any mcmenamins restaurant. horrible service and rude waitresses was all I was presented with. this place is going downhill fast and used to be a place I enjoyed going until lately. waitress dumped my food on the table by accident then proceeded to pick it up with her hands and set it back on my plate. she then says "will that be alright?" I then realize that the entire bottom of the pizza was charcoal black. very displeased from these experiences.
