This place has been in my neighborhood for a while now and Ive gone before but wasnt blown away initially but Im so glad that I went back. I saw a picture of the chicken and waffles on Eat24 and decided to screw the "summertime fine" agenda and to get this deliciousness into my mouth. Its in strip mall at the corner of Nolensville and Old Hickory Blvd, and you can easily miss it, if youre not paying attention but the plus side is that there is plenty of free parking. The menu is a bit different now, with a couple of the more authentic recipes removed but hey learning your customers needs/wants, likes/dislikes is all part of the restaurant game right!? Its little unassuming cafe, minimally decorated but still inviting. A big window lets in a ton of natural light and the distressed wood mixed with metal gives it a twisted modern look. Seating is extremely limited. Maybe around 20 -30 seats including the few outdoor tables. I hate that I didnt get the ladies name that took my order. She made me feel like an old friend stopping in for a much needed visit. Her level of enthusiasm, authenticity and all around amazing-ness sold me before I ordered a thing. The prices are great and if you dine in they have a few beer selections. I ordered my chicken and waffles, spice level HOT, and a side of quinoa salad. They do have a spice level higher than HOT called STUPID HOT but no one had time for that on that day. Chicken and waffles, served Nashville-style with the usual pickles on top ... so good. The spice level was just right and the chicken was juicy. The chicken itself is skin-on boneless chicken thighs. The chicken skin had the just right level of crunch. Combine all of that with the sweet of the belgian waffle and the maple syrup ... just ... YAASSSS. I enjoyed it thoroughly but honestly the star for me was the Quinoa salad. I dont know what I was expecting but I was blown away. It was the perfect hint of heat, combined with the twang of the pickled veggies, and the dressing .... look. I inhaled that entire thing before I even touched my chicken and waffles. It was so good that Ill probably be heading back today for the Quinoa salad and an Empanada or two. Love!

The best hot chicken sandwich in Nashville, hands down. The rest arent even close! The balance of the menu has a Chilean flair, the dishes are very well thought out, and there is something for everyone. Imagine a restaurant with Gulch-worthy food, only in South Nashville. Seriously, if Subculture was anywhere near downtown the line would extend half a block, and youd be reading about it in the Scene. Things to try: the hot chicken sandwich. If you are a die hard spicy food lover, dont be afraid to ask for the heat - they can deliver. The Choriburger, chorizo and beef patty, topped with a fried egg and chimichurri. Their Cubano is good. Hot chicken and waffles, with Bourbon maple syrup. They have a burgers and beers special on Friday nights (Sat night too, I think) that gets you a discount on burgers, and two for one beers! Lastly, they open at 8am, and have great coffee - not that syrupy crap they serve at that big chain place. Add your own sugar, or none at all! Even the cafe mocha - nice.

I came about 720 on a Saturday nght. Its a small place, about 20 seats, but didnt feel cramped even with all the tables full. The food was good. We had the Churrasco Sandwich (eat with a fork and knife) and the Hot Chicken n Waffles (we had the hot). Everything was good! The chicken was spicy, but not overwhelming. The Churrasco was messy and hit several flavor notes. The initial vibe is definitely urban and can be imposing. I think of it as "casual grunge". The decor is simplistic and industrial. Contemporary rock plays in the background. The service is courteous and efficient. The other diners seemed pleased and like regulars, which is a good sign. They also have a bar with craft beers and a full selection of coffees (and cheaper than Starbucks).

Just tried Subculture on the recommendation of a girlfriend. WOW!! I had the Churrasco sandwich with a side of Asian slaw - huge portions and the food was SO delicious. I picked the slaw over the Quinoa Salad, but that also looked great. The beef on the sandwich was perfectly marinated and the chimichurri aioli was the perfect condiment. I also absolutely had to try the Beef Empanada, which was beyond expectation. They have espresso, tea and a good selection of local beers on tap. Cant wait to come back and bring my husband - hes going to love the Cubano sandwich for sure. Yum!!

A little cafe with big potential. I am actually really happy to see this in Nashville as from someone who lived in Miami for many years. The menu itself is not extensive, but I got to try a few when I had family visiting and all of them unanimously said the food was good. I tried the choriburger myself and it was really tasty, the bun seemed to be baked in house and it is not your typical average hamburger bun. For the price, you do get alot of food. They also have coffee and even got to try the cortado which is pretty authentic. Really a must try if you are in the area.

Were so glad this place opened in our neighborhood. The seating area is fairly small and Ive been told it gets very crowded for lunch. We usually get our order to go. All the sandwiches are delicious. The hot chicken was the only miss with us. It was very hot, but didnt really carry a flavor with all that heat. The tacos were yummy. The veggie taco is on the sweet side. It was good, but just a heads up for those expecting more savory. The Cubano, churrasco and SC burger are all delicious, flavorful and filling, and the fries are great. We cant wait to try the new brunch menu.

I was invited to lunch with some business associates. Really didnt know what to expect as its in a older strip center near Babies R Us. As soon as i walked in the door you could tell Subculture was going to be good...they had house made pickled veggies on display. I had the Churrasco Sandwich, which was flank steak on homemade roll with a fried egg, it was a taste sensation. They also have a very nice beer selection. Im looking forward to going back and trying the other options. Pricing is very affordable and selection is great.

Awesome place! Exactly what we need in this area of town. Restaurant feels like it should be in East Nashville. I live in this area so Im thrilled its right around the corner. My wife and I got the Cubano with Asian Slaw and Churrasco with Quinoa Salad. It was out of this world delicious! Also got some iced coffees on a hot day which really hit the spot. My advice: enjoy this place now while its still a hidden secret! Soon there will be a line out the door!

The first words that come to mind as I write this review sitting in Subculture Urban Cuisine and Cafe is "Its about time!" This section of Nolensville has needed a great place to sip coffee or beer and just hang and that is exactly what Subculture is - a great place! I had the Americano, black, and it was simple and delicious as only high-quality black coffee can be. Excited to try the food menu later - burgers, Cubano, empanadas, oh my!
