Tried the much vaunted lobster bisque on the recommendation of a buddy. $12.50 for a piece of sourdough bread a restaurant gives you for free with a meal. Typical summer employment kids working in the glass enclosed "bisque kitchen" stirring up what is most likely a soup base and tossing in a few small shreds of lobster. The place serves 100% frozen ocean seafood at inflated tourist prices and Im guessing the lobster is in a jumbo bag. I didnt see any fresh, living lobsters pining for the fjords. I did see tiny paper cups I assumed were for sampling the bisque. No, they were the normal portion! They cut a small plug out of the small bread loaf which is the size of a baseball, the loaf that is and ladle in a couple fluid ounces of thickening cream passing as bisque and you might get a couple pieces of actual lobster. The plug is laid on the side and a bit of ever clotting bisque is dripped on that which spreads across the foam plate. They dont even ladle the stuff from the original pot but have an electric hot pot sitting on the counter. I asked if there was any actual fresh Lake Erie fish and was pointed over to a small counter outside where they sell that. Guessing its not fresh either as there are zero fishing boats in sight. Ordered a house specialty bloody mary and got an 8 ounce plastic cup full of ice, some bottom shelf mix , maybe a little vodka and a skewer with lemon slices, a green olive and a limp pickle slice on top. $9 for that... We even forgot the 10% off discount on the $100 in savings coupons that we were handed while renting a 7 mph golf cart at $20 per hour. Somebodys making a killing on the touristas at Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Make that everybody. Of course for most of the year its a deserted island. Oh and the mayflies breed by the billions in June so everything is covered with them. Catch-22 is they dont bite but do smell like a giant, rotting corpse.

The Upper Deck at Put-In-Bay was an OK place to sit, but not to eat. My wife and I attempted to go in at 11:30pm on a Tuesday for lunch but was informed that it was closed until noon. A quick look around and there were 4 customers eating already, until I found out later that it is reserved for islanders only until noon. When we returned at noon we were promptly seated with a beatiful view of Gibraltar Island and our waitress was Mrs. Johnny-on -the-spot. Anything we needed she got for us, however the food had seen better days. I ordered the "Islanders favorite" Walleye Sandwich with fries and coleslaw. I didnt know there was a way to fry up walleye in such a way as to remove all fish flavor. I almost rolled up my napkin and placed it in the bun to add more flavor. Luckily there was tartar sauce provided of which i soaked my sandwich in. Unluckily, the same chef that made the fish fillet also made the tartar. It was extremely flat in flavor, close to that of relish mixed with water. Most of the edible fries were decent, but its not too hard to deep fry a spud and toss with salt. The coleslaw had a great crunchy start of cabbage, but finished with nothing but the taste of cabbage. If I didnt know better the coleslaw slurry probably was some of my tartar sauce tossed with shredded cabbage. I didnt have the courage to purchase an $8.00 slice of key lime pie due to the severe dissapointment I would have received. It leaked worse than the Titanic. My wife and I left as soon as possible (I couldnt figure out a way to escape without paying the bill) and took notice of Dairy Queen down the street for when dinnertime would arrive.

In several visits, wed eaten at the Upper Deck and had a few drinks at both Ritas Cantina and Clawdaddys Bar. The food and service at the Upper Deck was pretty good. We sat at the bar for drinks and a meal entirely of appetizers. Our bartender was attentive and service was fast. I highly recommend the Red Sangria! That Lobster Bisque they boast about really is some of the best Ive ever had, the Wedge Salad was huge and presented nicely, and the Hummus plate was a fresh alternative to greasy appetizers. The Peel-and-Eat Shrimp were not deveined and quite bland, though rather large. That evening, we moved out to Clawdaddys Bar, an outdoor bar on a deck right over the water. The seating area was large but there was only one bartender. After waiting in line for 15 minutes for drinks, we walked down to a bar on the Main Deck. That sufficed, but I still cant believe they didnt shift staff around to accommodate the customers outside. Another evening, we went up to Ritas Cantina. This is probably the most pleasant place to have a drink (or six) in the area. The bartender was very nice, happy hour specials were interactive and fun, and the drinks were great! The last day of our stay, we were planning on grabbing a quick lunch at the Main Deck. Even though the sign right in front of the cashier stated they opened at 11am, they still werent open at a quarter after. We finally asked and were told they wouldnt open till 11:30. So, we had no time left to find another place to eat before the ferry came. Pretty mad about that one...

The Boardwalk consists of a number of places to eat downstairs and upstairs. The Upper Deck is my personal favorite. The Boardwalk is probably best known for their lobster bisque, and for good reason. Its by far the best Ive ever had. They dont cheap out on the lobster either. Upper Deck is more fine dining than the Main Deck options, both with a great views though. From steak to seafood, Upper Deck is top notch. The service is also top notch. Ive never had one bad experience in all the years Ive been visiting. Also upstairs is Ritas Cantina Margarita Bar and Deck. Fun place to grab a drink. If you like tequila, Ritas is your place. Downstairs you have a variety of food and drink options to choose from. My personal favorite is the salmon sandwich from Book’s Seafood. The Fish Shak features breaded Lake Erie perch and walleye sandwiches & baskets. The Little Galley is great for families. They offer burgers, quarter-pound hot dogs, chicken strips and french fries and more. There are two bars on the Main Deck. Boardwalk is a great experience. I think youll agree.

Prompt service at the back restaurant and good food. I got the Walleye & the wife had the burger. We were both very pleased. After we went to Ritas for a few margaritas & were very happy with the service and atmosphere. Those complaining about prices need to realize you are on a resort island & you are sitting on the water Of course youre going to pay more. Get over it or go to Subway (which is more expensive than the mainland too by the way).

I really only want to give it 2.5 stars. We went there on a slower Saturday. First off we were all all uncomfortably cold, then the food took 50 to get out from when we ordered, we only saw our waiter 4 times, one to take our order, one to drop off drinks, one to drop food off and lastly to bring us the check. And also I ordered the lobsters Mac and Cheese thinking it woul be a of of food, but I was appalled about how small it was.
