I hate writing bad reviews, and believe me, my poor rating only has to do with the near-hour wait for our bill to be split. The food was great as was the service up to the point of paying the bill. Every single person or couple pointed out to the servers who was on their own bill, but at the end we were told they (the restaurant) expected us to split the bill up in equal parts. Some of us had drinks, some didnt. Some had meat dishes, some less-expensive vegetarian meals or half orders. The difference in each of our bills was far too great to split evenly. So, the server very coldly told us it would take 25 minutes to split up the bill. Even without a register, it should not take 25 minutes -- much less the 40 MINUTES -- it took to do the math to split our tickets. Even if for some ridiculous reason the restaurant didnt have a calculator, every cell phone does. It was so apparent the server was making us "pay" for daring to split up a bill. Completely ruined the entire experience. Im still incredulous that they turned off so many customers for asking for something any other restaurant does smoothly.

Not a week goes by that my family doesnt order out from or eat at Indian Oven. Since the restaurant opened at its previous location more than 13 years ago (maybe more), this has been our favorite meal in any restaurant. For my 50th birthday, we served Indian Ovens food to 50 guests in our home. It was a great success. Many of our friends who were new to Indian food are now also big fans of the place and the cuisine. We are vegetarians. When we bring guests who order the meat dishes, they often help themselves most generously to our favorites - palak paneer, baingen bartha, shahi paneer and aloo gobi. It is finger-licking good. There is a full bar, generous pours, and a lovely contemporary atmosphere. I dont know more you could ask for in great dining. Dont forget to order pakora! You wont regret it. By the way, as to its authenticity, my husband has lived in Madras, India and developed his taste for Indian food there. We have enjoyed Indian restaurants all over the country and overseas for 30 years. Indian Oven is not to be missed.

I was skeptical from some negative reviews here, but because my girlfriend moved here, we wanted to check out how the Indian places are. We had pretty bad luck with another place further out which offered extremely mediocre food, but tonight we went to the Indian Oven. The restaurant style is very nice and the waiter welcomed us. We were served promptly and in a professional manner. The food was good, but not excellent - we had Palak Paneer and Malei Kefta which was served quickly and the spice levels (mild, medium, hot) were accurate (I had it mild which was good and my girlfriend had it medium which was a bit too spicy for me, but just right for her). The Naan bread was decent, but not great. I also had a glass of Mango Lassi which was good. Rice was included in the price of the main dishes and the Papadam was a free appetizer. Including tax and tips, we paid 41$ which is a fair price for this type of nice restaurant. I wouldnt mind going back and can recommend it if you want to go to an Indian place in downtown Columbus.

Something is obviously wrong with these reviews. They range from wonderful to terrible. I suspect that at least some of the bad reviews were written for another Indian restaurant and the writer was confused about the location, or perhaps for some reason they were there on the one-in-a-million bad day. We have patronized the Indian Oven on Main Street near downtown since they moved to that location. In those many visits we have never had anything but a fine meal. The owner is friendly, helpful, remembers customers; a fine host, thus making me suspect that those who describe him as rude and impolite dont know who the owner is or dont know what restaurant they were in. The wait staff are pleasant and know and well describe the Indian dishes. We have had fine events there of twenty people, and when family visits from another city we frequently get Indian Oven takeout. It is always, and I mean always, tasty, fresh, high quality. I strongly encourage all to visit and enjoy. Oh, and do try the yummy yogurt drinks.

I went to Indian Oven last weekend with my friend. I recently moved to Columbus and heard about this restaurant. We ordered samosas as appetizers and they were half cooked :( and green chatney was terrible. We ordered Alloo Gobhi and Matar Paneer in main meal and it was pathetic. Alloo gobhi was sweet and both were not cooked properly. The allu parantha was so sweet to eat. I think they used red potatos which seems to be very cheap quality. I never had such pathetic indian food in US. The waiter himself added tip before giving bill to me and on giving reviews to manager, he argued with us and said he has not changed his recipe and this is how they cook. The behaviour was so rude and unfriendly so I can never think of going to that place again. I can cook much better food myself :)

Indian Oven is a great restaurant. The staff is absolutely lovely. They always remember your name and usually your favorite meals as well. The food is delicious and atmosphere is very welcoming. I always bring friends from out of town to the oven for dinner. Ive never had a bad night there. Ive read a lot of these reviews complaining that there was an added gratuity and therefore its a horrible restaurant and only 1 star worthy. Im sorry, but thats customary in every restaurant when there is a large group. If you cant afford to tip, then dont go out to eat. Especially in a large group! To hate on a restaurant and say it has horrible food based on the fact that you had to pay a tip is sad. We will always be faithful customers here :)

A fine restaurant is more that a place to eat - its a place you crave! Thats what Indian Oven means to us. What do I mean? Its 5 pm and the text comes from my husband, "Indian Oven?" My response, "Yes!" We have been coming here since Indian Oven moved years ago from their campus location and were never disappointed. Our biggest challenge: detouring from our perennial favorites of Shrimp Palau and Lamb Shank - two of the most delightful and memorable dishes weve ever eaten. Additionally the lunch buffet is fabulous and one of the best values downtown. Everything from the tea to the appetizers to the fruit custard for dessert - Run - Dont walk to Indian Oven (yum - now I just made myself hungry!)

Worst restuarant i have ever been in my entire 45 years life. The food is very bad and on top of that its owner is always drunk and appears to be a third class fellow and behaves like that. No courtesy/respect shown towards the customers and he treats you like an idiot. Never go to that third class restuarnt. And another thing is other restuarants around that area are lot cheaper and serves better food than this third class resturant. Very expensive. My strong advise is not to go to this place. There are lot of other restuarants around the same area where i have been to and they are very friendly and the food is way better than this restuarant.
