Ive driven by this place every week for the past year and a half. It looked quaint and interesting, and it was right by the river (creek) and I constantly told my wife, "We need to check that place out sometime!" Finally, we decided to give it a try. And I wish we hadnt. First of all, when we entered there was only one booth big enough for our family, and it was taken by a group that did not need to take that much space. Not the problem of the establishment, of course...except for the fact that its a "seat yourself" establishment. So we squeezed into a booth much too small for our family, and waited patiently for the waitress. And waited. And waited. And waited. 15 minutes later, we finally were acknowledged by someone who worked there. Not our waitress. He gave us our menus and said our waitress would be with us in a few minutes. Finally the waitress came, took our drink orders, then our food orders. Only 20 minutes or so in, but were finally getting somewhere! As I waited for the food, I was able to take in the "ambiance" of the establishment. In a word - bleh. I think it was going for homey, but I just got homely. It also had a funky smell. Not bad, just funky. We could have eaten outside, I suppose, but none of the tables were made for groups of over two. The booth we were sitting at had duct tape holding the seating together. Cute. They also had a Christmas tree in the corner. In August. Ok. During this wait for food, we didnt see our waitress once. This would become a habit. At least I had the food to look forward to. If people didnt come for the service, or the environment, the food has to be killer for them to stay in business. Needless to say, I was highly disappointed. I ordered the pancakes, since this place is billed as a breakfast establishment. Ive had better. Its really hard to mess up pancakes, but they somehow managed it. They werent tasty at all. I think I left half of them on my plate. Thats a rarity. The bacon was pretty good, which is a plus. My kids ate their food, but they also eat their boogers so I dont know how much of a ringing endorsement that is. My wife ordered the BLT, and gave the high praise of "Eh, its hard to mess up bacon lettuce and tomato." I think along the way we had a waitress sighting. She swung by when we were in mid bite asking, "Is everything ok?" (you know, that old trick). By the time we were finished chewing that bite in an attempt to answer, she was out of our lives, never to be heard from again. After an hour at this establishment, we were ready to go, but apparently they were not ready for us to leave. We had yet to receive the bill. Finally, after my wife and kids had left, leaving me sitting there with my empty glass, another employee stopped by the table asking if Id like a refill. This would be the first time this question had been asked of me, by the way. At this point, I just wanted to leave, and I asked for the bill. That was brought promptly, and I paid it to escape further torment. At least the prices were reasonable. It was only a few dollars more than, say, Bob Evans, and a lot less delicious. At least we checked it out, and found out it wasnt worth the stop.

December 28th, 2008 This was the first time I have been back to the Creekside since they closed for remodeling, so it’s been quite a few months for me, and I was glad to be coming back here to see what changes have been made. I liked the Creekside even before they remodeled. I like it even more now. The place doesn’t look a whole lot different, but I guess it is a little nicer, with new booths, and it has a nice, small-town, friendly family diner kind of atmosphere. I think the food is even better than before. The sliced, fried redskin potatoes are quite tasty, the coffee is good, and my Farmer’s Omelet was stuffed thick with fillings. I don’t think I’ve ever had carrots in an omelet before, and I can report that it works very well with the sausage, mushrooms, onion, green peppers and tomatoes, all together a very nice omelet! John had the Mexican omelet, which was pretty tasty, although I would say it’s more like a Mexico-inspired omelet tuned to Central Ohio tastes — which is actually a pretty good omelet. Breakfast at the Creekside is a good value. Dishes range from $4 to $6. Farmers Omelet at the Cafe Creekside Farmer The Creekside is indeed beside a creek, and it’s a beautiful spot to walk on the boardwalk along the creek, watching the ducks and enjoying the sweet little park that Gahanna has built here. It’s really nice to see how well they have used the natural asset of this location to make an enjoyable spot to come and hang out for a while. REVISITED: April 26 and again April 28, 2009. Lovely outdoor seating alongside Big Walnut Creek, live entertainment in the form of swimming swan, ducks, geese, and people walking by on the boardwalk along side the creek just below the outside dining area. Service was excellent again both days, food consistent and good. Excellent value as well. And the coffee is above average for diner coffee. The food was good, thats about all I can give this place. Parking is a nightmare. There is no parking out front, and after you pass the place, realize you have to park at Wendys, turn around and come back, you end up in a lot with signs everywhere saying its for Wendys customers only! I ended up WAAAAAAAAY in the pack to avoid getting towed. Lovely. Things started out well enough on the inside. Its seat yourself, so no wait there. I picked a seat up at the counter and she so eloquently asked "is it just you?" Yeah, just me. Just me, thats it, nobody special or worthy of attention, just me. I was given my coffee, and I placed my food order. Another person brought my food out, and as soon as it was set down I was asked how everything looks. Well, it looks like its all there, I guess. After that, nobody asked a single thing about the food, if I needed a refill, or anything. I did hear a lot about the staffs family. Did you know they are all related? I do. Dad is going hunting tomorrow, also important for me to know. The fact that my coffee was empty-is totally irrelevant, however. Then to wrap it all up, as I stood (ignored) at the cash register, I was finally asked "all done?" Well, yes. Thats why my plate is empty, my mug is empty, and Im standing here at the register. Odds are good, that Im all done. Next time maybe you should ask how the FOOD was, or if I needed a refill on my $2 cup of generic coffee.

I have been here quite a few times and the service has never wowed me. For example right now. The air-conditioner does work. I got here and waited 10 minutes for a table not because they were full of ppl but full of dirty tables. 2 older couples that got here after me, got seated and order food way before me while I still waiting for them to clean my table. Someone with better restaurant education need to save this place. Its a great location that could make some much more money.
