Terribly disappointed in your service today! Was told the wait will be at most 5 minutes. 15 minutes later, we watched the hostess sit a group of 4 men that came in a few minutes after us. When asked, she lied and said she called our name 3 times. No! You asked us once if we wanted to sit at the bar and we said that wed prefer a table. Then you skip over us when the next table is ready and then give us attitude about it when we brought it to your attention??? When the guys were seated, you went straight to them. There was no calling of any names before that. We were standing right in front of you the whole time. I asked to speak to the owner and what a coincidence, he was seated near the door where we were standing. The hostess began telling him her side of the story first, but when I interjected, I accidentally brushed up against a tray she was holding. The hostess then, very rudely, told me to back off, as if Id done it on purpose. The owner took the hostess side, of course stating "Im sure she is doing her best". He didnt even offer an apology. If her "best" is being rude, taking a group of young men(probably for flirting and tip reasons) before us and then lying about it is her best, then you have a problem on your hands. I have never been treated so rudely by a hostess in my life. What happened to the great service that you used to have? Sad really. I used to bring all of my family and friends here when they came in town to visit. Not any more! Looks like another downtown Wilmington business that I used to love will be headed out due to terrible service & poor management skills.

What a great diner! For 3 years, I walked past Dixie Grill and looked down my nose at it. Looked pretty rough form the outside. Then one Saturday morning about 10 years ago, I saw people lined up on the sidewalk waiting to get in. I decided to see what all the fuss was about... Boy! was I surprised to discover the best diner Ive ever visited. And now, I go there at least once a week. My favorite downtown restaurant for casual breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu is chock full of delicious choices, and I have tried most of them. My favorites are Dixie Benedict, blueberry pancakes, and any omelette. Had the Louisiana Hash once, and loved it, and consider it every time I go, but its mighty powerful and spicey. For lunch, my wife and I love the Cobb salad... best weve ever had. and it is always prepared the exact same way... never disappoints. I go here every chance I get. When we have out of town guests, we always head to Dixi Grill. Ask for Lou to be your server.

Time to wait to be seated was accurate. Waitress was ok. My corned beef hash was horrid and I did not eat it. It had no meat in it at all. It is called corned beef hash. 4 others with me looked through it and we could find no meat. Not only that it was spicy hot. I ask waitress if I got the right thing she said yes. She took it off bill w/o me asking so I give her credit for that. Everyone elses food seemed fine, but I cant see what all the fuss is about. Ill never go back. Everyone makes mistakes or has a bad day, but I told waitress to take to chef and have him check it. Maybe they just forgot to put meat in the mix on mine. She took plate and put in buss container. That doesnt help anyone else ordering it if its bad. Doesnt matter Im done.

This is a local favorite and one I am hesitant to share only because it is becoming so popular and well known it can be hard to get in after 9am on a weekend! But, the truth is if you are visiting Wilmington you do not want to miss this place downtown. Its name reflects it still holds on to the pride of its southern roots while embracing in its flare of style its urban side. Its walls are decorated with local art supporting its "local" side and yet its food reflects a variety of food styles from traditional southern to southwestern. It is right in the downtown section 2 blocks from the river walk. Perfect place to eat breakfast and then walk it off walking along the Cape Fear admiring the beauty and charm of Wilmingtons downtown.

Im a tea drinker but I come here when Im in the mood for coffee, its smooth and rich without the acidic bitterness I find at Starbucks. Even the decaf is good, when I asked, I was told the beans are a local vendor. The food is simple and good with a good basic menu. Two moderate consumers can easily eat here for under $20. We come often, usually after the rush as we noticed once its quite busy in the morning. The servers are not exuberant, but they smile and are polite. 95% of the time the service is quick, the food fresh, and the server attentive. The decor may put you off because its a bit old but you cant beat the food at these prices.

Delicious and reasonably priced food in a charming little spot in the downtown district. I ate here every single morning of my latest trip, and everything was amazing. It was busy, as it was the weekend of the 4th of July, but we never had to wait longer than 20 minutes, and most mornings we quickly grabbed a spot at the counter. Ive read reviews about the wait-staff, but have always had friendly servers, despite how overwhelmed they must be. Do yourself a favor and try the Dixie Benedict! The only regret I have is not buying a bag of coffee to bring home because its so incredible.

We were looking for a place to have lunch after being at the beach. We headded to WIlmington thinking to find someplace on the riverfront. When we exited the parking garage I spotted the Dixie Grill and suggested we try it. I am so glad we did. What a hidden treasure we discovered. The food was excellent and the service was spectacular. Our waitress Susan was a dream She was friendly and knowledgeable. It was so good we went back the next day. I was so impressed the Susan remembered us and took our table again. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

First of all, theyre sanitation score was an 87.5, and the actions of one of the servers explains why: she was loading a sugar caddy and dropped some packets on the rubber mat in the servers station that gets a TON of foot traffic, then proceeds to pick them up, barehanded, puts them back into the bag, THEN SHE RUMMAGES THROUGH THE CLEAN SILVERWARE FOR COFFEE SPOONS WHICH SHE PLACES DIRECTLY INTO THE COFFEE, AND SERVES THEM, HAVING NOT WASHING HER HANDS ONCE THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THERE!!! Diners beware! WATCH YOUR SERVERS!

This place is AWESOME!!! All Im going to say is, "do not judge the book by its cover" I ordered the strawberry, banana and pecan french toast with their signature apple sage breakfast sausage on the side and it was totally delicious! The greeters and waitresses had smiles and very chipper and our waitress Evan was very pleasant and attentive. Looking forward to going back to try the farmers omelette
