My friend and I went for lunch today and the food was good but I think they are advertising the restaurant wrong for the menu they have. I didnt get a Cali vibe and the food wasnt tex-mex but more like mexican food with a very american twist on it, but good. If it wasnt for the service I would have given them 4 stars because again the food was good. Not what we were expecting, but good. Our waitress was polite but kept making us feel rushed through our meal. She interrupted our conversation twice to hurry us along. The first time my friend hadnt even finished half of her sandwhich when she asked if she was done and wanted a box for it. Then I was giving my baby some of the rice and beans that came with my meal when she came again and asked if we were finished. We finally just let her take our plates with food still on them and paid and left. There was no reason to rush us either. It wasnt full and we still had an hour before they close. We hadnt even been there that long either. Another thing was their "margarita special". The things are extremely tiny but ok it was only 2.50. We were going to have 2 each but were so rushed we only had 1. This is another reason why they shouldnt advertise as Californian because Californians are laid back not uptight like this place. I usually dont leave reviews but it just bugged be that we were rushed because this was a lunch to spend some time with a very dear friend who is moving out of state soon.

I invited five friends to go with me for dinner this past Saturday night. We were celebrating a birthday. I have been here several times for lunch and have always enjoyed it. Both the food and the service have been wonderful in the past. This was the first time for the five of my friends to eat here, on my recommendation. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a shortage of 3 staff due to last-minute staff no-shows, due to illness, sickness etc. Needless to say, the restaurant was full and the staff was spread thin. However, the manager/owner came over and explained the situation to our group, gave us complementary alcoholic beverages, and turned what could have been a rather frustrating situation into a very pleasant experience for everyone. As I mentioned before, I have been here several times in the past and everything has always been exceptional. And tonight, the food was also exceptional. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I am writing this review to remind folks its not only about how the restaurant operates on a daily basis with the complete staff. But how it handles stressful situations that arise unexpectedly. And this group of people, from the owner all the way down, handle those stressful situations marvelously and with Grace. And they serve delicious food on top of it all

been here several times and loved it. the only complaint Ive ever had is it is SLOW. but good food is worth the wait. last night was a horrible experience. the waiter didnt bring our cheese dip. so when our food came, I said wheres the cheese dip. o I forgot. at that point, we didnt want it because we would be full from dinner. but the cheese dip is so good we asked for it. you would have thought he wouldnt charge us for a half order of dip. we were shocked. then my friend asked if the quesadilla came with sour cream he said no but I can bring you one. looked at the bill and he charged .75 cents. wow! then I asked him if they had a new chef because only half of my chimachanga had cheese and he said no. he never offered to remake it or give me a discount. I will not go back to a place like this. its horrible treatment. I will stick with Chewys from now on!

I wish this place wasnt so far from the house! I would eat here a lot more often. Cafe Capistrano was great! The food is not typical Mexican food like a Speedy Gonzalez (Lunch #3) or a Burritos Mexicanos. Cafe Capistrano puts a significant amount of thought into their unique menu and it shows in both the presentation and the taste. Their cheese sauce came in a huge soup bowl and was not your usual "queso dip" like youd get at a Mexican restaurant. It had garnishing and cilantro and much more flavor than what I was used to. I took home what we didnt finish and made it into macaroni and cheese the next day. The service was outstanding and the owner even came over and talked to us for a few minutes before our food arrived. Great Job CC, well be back!

I drive two hours to eat at this restaurant - and I dont even like Mexican food. The best dish on the menu is the mango shrimp appetizer - a meal in itself, and dont forget to get the guacamole salad - both dishes are so beautiful they could be on a magazine cover, not to mention supremely delicious. Then add their sangria - the best Ive ever tasted. I literally about faint with joy when eating this meal. Also the corn chips are fresh, never rancid or stale, and the salsa is freshly prepared - its the only salsa I ever eat. My sister introduced me to this restaurant and I cant get enough. Its casual, friendly with great service - Raleighs best kept secret.

This is a great place for reasonably priced, tasty food in a comfy, casual atmosphere, with fine service. The starting chips and salsa are a cut above what is typical, and they keep coming until you cry uncle. My wife thinks it is the best guacamole shes ever had. Weve had the tacos, empanadas, and burritos - all wonderful - but the Santa Fe Enchiladas, the soft tortilla stuffed with tender, roasted pork tenderloin, and chile relleno are just superb. Be sure to get the black beans as the bean choice - nice and garlicky. We visit very few restaurants regularly (we love to cook!), but this great spot is one of them....great takeout as well!

Right off the bat, we were feeling a bit underdressed. Come in business-casual, not flip-flops like we did. This is an incredibly classy place in the best possible way: fountain in the middle of the dining area, beautiful artwork, and no one turned their noses up at us for our dress. FRESH ingredients for everything. Their guacamole has bite-size chunks of avacado, their queso blanco was THICK and delicious. Serving sizes were perfect and reasonable. Waitstaff were fantastic and made great recommendations. We tried the Mexican Flan for the first time. Be warned that it is amazing but rich (the best problem to have!)

I experienced Cafe Capistrano for the first time last night.....and I absolutely loved it! The food was fresh and delicious with wonderful flavors. I ordered the chicken chimichanga and my boyfriend had the pork tenderloin wrap. Both were out of this world. We kept stealing bites off of each others plate. The smashed beans are a great side with so much texture and flavor. The service was amazing as well. Very attentive and super friendly. Thank you for a great experience. Will be back very soon!
