When you move to Raleigh from a certain northeast metropolis, you may find yourself missing a handful of your favorite things. Organic juice bars...high-speed public transit...sidewalks that dont inexplicably disappear at the end of the block. You will not, however, miss great coffee shops. Because Raleigh is the motherland for members of the ever-growing creative class who set up impermanent offices in coffee shops, cafes and bars. Prices are low, wi-fi is fast and - because this is the South - baristas are always inexplicably kind. In the Glenwood South neighborhood, for instance, residents assemble at Cafe Helios seven days a week for cold tea and large plates of grits, toast and strawberry jam. At Café de los Muertos, 20-somethings sip direct trade lattes and spread across the live-edge wood window seat overlooking West Hargett. On the other side of downtown, Ashley Christensens endlessly popular Joule Coffee serves peppery homemade chai and La Golondrina cold brew alongside farmstead fare from morning until night. Then there are standbys, like Cup-a-Joe, a gritty, grad student hangout with Mission Valley and Hillsborough locations. And we also have hybrids - Yellow Dog Bread Company uses French techniques to turn out perfect loaves of spelt sourdough and floury rounds of rye; meanwhile, local dads bring their little ones for sugar-crusted cookies and lone riders drink at the impossibly tiny espresso bar. Now there is happily another place in the mix - aptly called BREW - to drink, eat, work and meet. This time, the location is Seaboard Station. The shop fills a gaping hole in the adorable shopping district, and the convenience is what has people raving. But location is only a drop in the cup for this quietly modern hangout. Its also gorgeously designed, with a warm, rough wood bar, pretty chalkboard menus and a sparkling picture window with a secret vista of sweeping pines and a busy street. The baked goods are made behind the bar where the owners wife uses a gleaming convection oven to turn out trays of almond blueberry muffins, crunchy ameretti meringues and chewy chocolate chip cookies. Theyve recently added healthy breakfast and lunch choices - house granola, bruschetta on tiny toast, sensible sandwiches on Yellow Dog multigrain - to sate those who should find themselves staying through mealtime. The real draw, however, is truly wonderful coffee that is simultaneously sweet and strong. BREW sources from Raleigh Coffee Company and uses both common and trendier methods for making their drinks, but no matter how they do it, something extraordinary happens between the beans and the cup. The result - arriving in a welcome perfume of caramel and chocolate - gives pause at first sip and incites gratitude all the way to the end. Yes, BREW fills a need for Seaboard, but it somehow does so in a way more exquisitely down-to-earth than we even knew we needed.

Although parking outside the shop is sparse, it is easily accessible for both Peace students and professionals working in DTR thanks to its location in Seaboard Station. After I heard all the horrible stories to come out of Helios, I decided to stop going there, and needed a new coffee shop to spend my afternoons at. The answer to this problem was BREW. The baristas came to know me by name after my third or fourth visit, and they all seem very knowledgeable about coffee. And speaking of coffee, theirs is fantastic! Depending on the day, ill either get a nitro cold brew or a pour over, both of which are phenomenal. They have three varieties of beans for pour over and Aeropress use, of which one is locally roasted by Raleigh Coffee Co. They are all great, although my favorite is the Ethiopia Hambela, which also happens to be the most expensive of the three. Go figure. They also carry rotating craft beers, although I cant comment on those. Seating is at something of a premium compared to some of the sprawling shops in Raleigh, but it is usually calm enough that my weekday afternoon visits welcome me with an empty table. There are ample outlets to charge your laptop/phone/other portable technology, and their free wifi gets the job done. I initially wore in-ear headphones while sipping my coffee, but Ive found that the music played here is very good, and is hearable while not being at an offensive volume. The walls are decorated with local art, which they kindly place tags underneath. The overall vibe is very laid back, and the shop is a very comfy place to spend a hopefully productive afternoon.

Brew is an incredible café! The coffee and pastries they have to offer there are some of the best you will find not only in Raleigh, but in North Carolina. If you get a chance, their Mocha and Blueberry Bran Muffins are award worthy. There is a great community feel to Brew, with everyone from the staff to the Patrons being incredibly friendly and approachable. The staff their coffee, beers and teas and are more than willing to share their knowledge and passion with you. I cant get enough of Brew, so happy that it is in my back yard!!!

Very pleasant experience at BREW. The ambiance is nice, there is a good mix of high tops, bar spots and standard tables. Ive had the americano there and a standard house blend coffee both of which were very reasonably priced (under 2 bucks) and very good. The staff is friendly and the art is pretty cool . The crowd is young professionals and hipsters with some business people mixed in.

I just had the most unreal honey chicken salad sandwich on multigrain Yellow Dog bread...along with a killer peanut butter, oats, chocolate, and banana bar...and a *delicious* almond milk latte. The music and atmosphere were incredibly relaxing after a long day of work, and the service was both speedy and friendly. Bravo, Brew! I will be back very, very soon!

Best Pour Over...Ever. We had been going to Helios but when Brew opened we never looked back. The owner is really friendly, and the staff has been steeped in the ways of coffee. I highly recommend it. They really know their product and have a rotating selection of good coffees. I also love that tax is included, makes buying coffee so much easier.

BREW is one of the only coffee shops around to rotate their coffees and they serve tasty craft beer. One of my favorite items is the oatmeal with walnuts. On the coffee side, you can not go wrong with the Nitro Cold Brew, it drinks like a beer, but it is only coffee. The staff are always friendly and the coffee is always extremely tasty!

After seeking out great coffee from local coffee shops in many towns throughout NC, I finally found what Ive been looking for! Ordered a vanilla latte and was very impressed with how much the coffee played a role. The coffee had a rich, vibrant flavor that the big box stores dont come close to!

Love BREW. Its a great space to sit in the morning and grab a coffee. I enjoy having one "for here" so I get my latte in a real mug. Seems more relaxing that way. There is always some fun art work on the wall and some tasty baked goods. Really chill vibe which is what I need in the morning.

My favorite coffee place in downtown Raleigh! They have a group of experienced baristas and staff. They rotate their coffee selection to keep things fresh and take great care in brewing their coffee so it comes out great every time! They even have a good selection of beer and wine.

A pleasant relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful in answering questions. They have a variety of seating options including outdoor seating. The location is not worth a special trip into town but if you are in the area ...
