I have never been to place like this where I felt like I was actually almost at home. I would not call the establishment fanciful. On the other hand, it is a rather laid back, very mellow business that is really cool and can grow on you. With great coffee, and good food fare that is above average, yet priced within reason, The Third Place has a winning combination. You can spend as much time as you want reading, drinking, conversing, piddling with your laptop, etc., without ever feeling hurried or like you are being given a look by the staff suggestive of "buy something else or move on dude." The atmosphere is very relaxed, the seating comfortable, and the art decor provides some relief in terms of visual eye candy. If it were only a bit more room, it would be even a better place, but as it is, Ill give it a big thumbs up, way up! It is one of my favorite locations, aside from being at home. Starbucks has nothing on the coffee served here either, in my humble opinion. What is better than a big, tasty, hot Java of choice, sitting back, fully relaxed, in a soft easy chair, reading the paper, or whatever? Regardless, it is right up there in the top ten category. Cheers!

This is my neighborhood coffee shop - a great place to meet colleagues or friends mid-week, or to walk in for breakfast on weekends. The coffee is good, Id say, the house blend is usually medium roasted. I see many people ordering specialty espresso drinks - not my thing. The bacon, egg and spinach breakfast burrito is my usual food pick. It is packed with spinach, and is a bit bitter, but the optional bacon makes it also indulgent. My kids always go for a bacon, egg and cheese bagel, and they share a cinnamon twist - a reasonable balance of nutrition and sweetness. :-) To me, the ambiance is also a great draw. I like walking there with my dog, and use one of the outsider tables; or I use an inside table for work meetings, and I sit on one of the loungy couches if I am there with family or friends. David, the owner, is a cool dude - calls patrons by their name, shows art from fledgling local artists and neighbors, and somehow seems to recruit and train interesting, complex, diligent staff. All out, my favorite place to drink coffee and fee grounded.

I was only there with a friend for lunch for a very short time, but I enjoyed it. Its more like a real coffeehouse, and less commercial. The food is also heavily skewed to the vegetarian and vegan end of the scale. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, there is wi-fi, and curiously enough they use an iPad to check you out. I was a little disappointed that they didnt have any loose leaf tea, but theyre not known for their teas. I ordered a ginger tea, a hummus and tabouli wrap (served with nachos and fresh pico), and a slice of banana bread. The tea was OK, the hummus and tabouli wrap was good (but not very good), but the banana bread was EXCELLENT. So I encourage everyone to go. If youre not a big fan of vegetarian and vegan cuisine, you probably wont find much to entertain you on the menu. However, the banana bread is definitely worth your time.

Certainly my favorite coffee place in Raleigh. Coffee is good and the breakfast burrito is my personal addiction. The only challenge is that, in my opinion, it has become a little too overrun with the kiddies on weekend mornings. I totally respect that parents deserve good coffee on Saturday morning too but sometimes it feels like Im in a daycare more than a coffee shop. :-) But on the upside, thats largely due to the fact that it is such a neighborhood friendly place that folks feel really comfortable there. So its a trade off and a worthwhile one at that.

The food, coffee and smoothies are great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was a little overly eclectic and uncomfortable for a work space. The internet connection was so poor that it was not useable at all. The biggest problem with working here is that when they make espresso drinks they use something that makes such a loud banging noise that headphones all the way still wont mask it. If youre looking for a place to hang with friends its a win but if youre looking to concentrate even a little bit you need to find another place.

The coffee and espresso drinks are not as good as many of the other Indy shops in the area. This place has a great location and the environment is super cozy, that said, I dont recommend this place for coffee or espresso based drinks. The last few times I had been in I noticed burnt milk on the steamwand and the barista who made my drink didnt seem to know how to properly dose, tamp and pull a proper shot. So its a cool place but the drink quality is lacking, sorry.

The quintessential coffee shop. It is warm, cozy and inviting and has comfy seating options. Go take a book or your computer and stay awhile. Unlike most coffee shops they actually offer a substantial food menu with great sandwich options., making it possible for you to hang out there all day long! The only downside is that the parking is a little limited and it can take a few swings around the block to find a spot.

The coffee was absolutely disgusting - If I hadnt been in such a rush I would have come back in and gotten a refund. The coffee was burnt tasting and the cream was overcooked and oily. Also, the barista did not explain to me why a medium latte was $8.05?? Complete ripoff. Never coming back and I dont recommend it. My coworker got a small latte and it wasnt good either - again the coffee was burnt tasting.

After moving to the triangle area I was becoming a bit homesick and missing art and deeply cozy coffee culture. After a full morning of driving to different shops I found this wonderful place. Excellent americano/espresso, cozy atmosphere, good art, vegan food options, and they arent afraid to paint the bathroom sinks with crazy designs. Definitely a must-visit. Staff were friendly and helpful too!

My personal favorite is an iced vanilla latte, and Third Place has one of the best Ive ever had. I also love the BLGT bagel sandwich (bacon lettuce goat cheese and tomato). Also for people complaining about the noise, have you never been to a coffee shop before? This is the norm. Ive seen plenty of people work diligently (and done so myself).

Been going here since 1997. Ive always enjoyed the cool, laid-back atmosphere. The staff is nice and they make my drink right every time. If you want to get a mocha and chill out for a while, The Third Place is right on the best place in Five Points to do so. Also great for after pizza coffee once youre done eating next door. :-D

The ideal coffee shop. Cozy but not TOO cozy (i.e. claustrophobic), with a nice assortment of baked goods and some comfy couches and chairs so you can hang out for a while. And free Wi-Fi, of course. They also sell a nice assortment of beans to take home. Very warm and welcoming.
