My husband and I decided to eat at Poor Richards after the other place we had planned to eat had already closed for the evening. I chose this place because of the late hours as well as the excellent reviews. I was not disappointed and in fact of the 10 restaurants we ate at during our weeklong stay in Nags Head, this was my second favorite! Its a tiny unassuming place in Manteo, which is such a pretty little town. We arrived too late to be seated in the actual restaurant, but were warmly welcomed into the bar area which had a few tables. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and my husband ordered the club sandwich and fries. Their sweet tea was the best I had during our entire stay! My burger was fantastic, but I took a bite of my husbands club sandwich (ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo) and WOW it blew me away! Such a simple thing - you wouldnt think it would be so amazing but it absolutely was! I liked it so much that my husband and I ended up going halvsies. After we ate we walked around the waterfront and it was so lovely, such a pretty night. There was a guy who was clearly drunk inside the bar and he was outside when we came out. He said a curse word but he wasnt being mean, he was joking though I forget what he said. No fault of Poor Richards but I do want to mention it in case you plan to go here with small children late in the evening (we were there around 9:30-10pm). It was just my husband and I so no big deal to us. I liked this place so much that I considered going back before we left but we wanted to try new places so we didnt. I will 100% be going again on our next visit and would recommend this highly to anyone for a low cost but fantastic meal and a truly lovely evening waterfront walk.

Eating at a restaurant in any tourist destination can be daunting at times. Our visit was on a weekday, lunch period in late February. There was a nice crowd, however our wait was short. The food was delivered in a timely manner and our interactions with the staff was positive. My order of cheese burger came with chips and a really nice pickle. The bun was fresh, lettuce crisp and large slice of tomato. It was reasonably priced and very satisfying. My companion ordered the tuna melt and fries for an extra $1. Fries were nicely prepared, the bread was fresh (optionally you may order wheat or rye) and a really nice, crisp pickle. The restaurant was clean and smelled fresh. I can see where they may get very busy during tourist season. There were a lot of local workmen eating this day which is, to me, a good sign. I would have given 5 stars had the diet coke we ordered with our meals not cost $3.98 each. We will be back as I would love to try their cold sandwiches.

My boyfriend and I were here several months ago for the very first time. Upon entering, we were walking toward an empty table we were told ,very loudly, "The menu is on the wall". No "hello", no "Welcome to poor Richards ", nothing. A not-too friendly waitress(?) took our order, and we sat down. Throughout our whole time being there, a server constantly yelled out, rather loudly "NUMBER 4, YOUR ORDER IS READY!!" This was extremely annoying and totally ruined the atmosphere of this cute place on the water!! The sandwich was ok,but no different than what I could have packed in a picnic basket. This is too cute of a place, to have to read the menu on a wall, then have someone yell out that your order is ready. A little more friendliness wouldnt hurt either.

Sandwich was pretty good, but not great. Internet was down after Tropical Storm Hermine came through so it took forever to process credit cards, which is understandable, but in the meantime there was a line of people and it seemed like 2 or 3 young staff members just lounging behind the counter not doing much while the other 3 people were busting their tails to get stuff done. Only one person seemed to be able to work the register. If they had more than one person who could work register then cash customers could have gotten through quickly while credit cards were being processed in the back.

I have eaten there a couple times and both times it was OK. Not real good but OK. The food is pretty good except the frozen - pop in the toaster hash browns, yuck. The coffee was really weak and flavorless. I threw mine out. The outdoor seating is minimal with 4 tables outside but there was a small deck upstairs. I dont know if this was for customer seaing or for something else. Overall, the atmosphere is excellent, the service is pretty good but the food is all over the map, depending what you get,

Hands down--best turkey club sandwich Ive ever had in my whole life. The first and only time Ive eaten at this place was actually five or six years ago, but I swear Ive been thinking about that sandwich on a semi regular basis ever since. I dont remember much about the restaurant or the staff, but if your interests are vested heavily in a delicious medley of meat, bread, and cheese then the ambience of this place matters not. Solid 10/10 A+++ !

Laid back, friendly atmosphere. Nice patio on waterfront. Decent selection of craft beers, though I wish they had more NC beers. Food is hit or miss: the Italian sub was excellent, with a variety of meats and lots of lettuce and tomato, but the roast beef sandwich used sliced bread from the supermarket and looked like something I could make at home. Still, we will come back next time were in Manteo.

Restaurant has a GREAT grilled pimento cheese sandwich! Nice place to eat lunch on the waterfront and watch the boats. The food isnt particularly gourmet, but its good enough. Overall, its a No frills with ordinary beers. Good place to take kids, and okay for adults if you dont mind eating out of plastic baskets and tissue paper. Bar has a strange chemical smell.

Poor Richard was doing quite well today. Only a ten minute wait for our food. A large variety of sandwiches and other dishes, prices were reasonable, and overall the food was worth it. I recommend the "sailor" sandwich - it was delicious. Only downside was that the water was a little on the brackish/ tap water side. Overall, a great meal.

Great food and great service. must be a popular spot because the line got quite long right at lunch even with the staff hustling. The seating was a little cramped, but we did take a double stroller in. nothing detracting from the restaurant, just an FYI for others with smaller kids. I would go again!

Food was great. Service in the bar area up front was great on both nights we came. Came back for lunch and the service was not so good in the back, restaurant part. Young man was mumbling and complaing about all the people in line for lunch while he was making my food. The food on the other hand was great!

Nice selection of food. Potato salad was great. The Reuben was good (not the best or even second best, but still good). Chicken salad was great and the BLT was delish. Staff is not overly friendly, but food is fairly inexpensive and good. If in the area, will definitely return.
