Saffron remains the go-to name among Greensboro’s Indian restaurants, but it isn’t the only game in town. Tandoor offers a viable alternative at a (comparatively) attractive price. First, the negatives. Tandoor is located at the far end of a rather sketchy shopping plaza. The décor – light blue walls with pink trim – isn’t the worst you’ll see, but it is dated and stale. The restaurant’s ample seating is also something of a double-edged sword: while you don’t have to worry about being elbow-to-elbow with garrulous diners, the empty tables create a sense of loneliness. These quibbles aside, there is a lot to like here. You can request food anywhere from mild to Indian hot; medium seemed to strike the right balance. The dishes sampled were well-seasoned, heavily sauced, and generously portioned. Chunks of chicken korma were juicy, and the lamb vindaloo was thankfully none too chewy. Freshly baked naan came in handy for mopping up sauces, and the papadum was downright addictive. Only a bland chicken pakora came in as a disappointment, and not a huge one at that. Tandoor’s exhaustive 100-plus item menu offers both unexpected surprises (Mango lamb? Crab masala? Biryani with nearly everything?) and compelling values. A $30 non-vegetarian dinner for two included everything listed in the previous paragraph, plus rice, chicken saag, raita, tea or coffee and dessert. That’s a hell of a lot of food for the money. Prices on individual entrees vary, but they top out at $14, and you can find many in the $10-$12 range. Contrary to some of the negative reviews floating around, service at Tandoor was not a problem at all. Our server was polite and efficient, and the gentleman at the register seemed affable. Lunch might be a different story, but dinner here was a pleasant experience. Tandoor can’t quite match Saffron’s polish and sophistication, but variety, value, and competent execution make it worthy of your consideration if you are seeking a quality Indian meal.

I feel as if a Restaurant is 50% food quality and 50% service and atmosphere. So let me start with the food. Most dishes are served fairly watered down, and chicken is OK but usually dry or tough, and the rice again is OK. Now as far as the service, it is consistently poor. Typically I go for the buffet *(which is served until 2:30 as noted clearly on the front door)*, and I am never greeted when I walk in,and the plates are never picked up from the table. However today was the day I couldnt take it anymore. When I walk in (at 2pm) there is NO chicken in the chicken masala, and when I kindly ask someone for some more chicken I am responded by a look at the clock and a dirty look (no verbal response whatsoever). I waited another 10 min for the chicken and given yet another dirty look. Oh and one last thing, they should probably let people know before driving there that they lock their doors promptly at 2 or shortly after and refused service for the buffet. I guess they think you cant eat a buffet lunch in less than 30 min and are in such a hurry to close the doors and get everyone out. Take it from someone who has given this place many opportunities to recover their reputation at least from my point of view, they are consistent in their poor behavior as a restaurant and have a very cheap mentality and overall bothered by people disposition. I recommend anyone to visit this place only if you are desperate, as I do.

I have been a patron at this place for almost three years. I have seen changes they made with the ownership change.. Under the previous management, the food just alright, but the service was good. Now, with the new management the food is way better and the place looks a bit cleaner and a tad brighter. However, they have the most horrible service/staff I have ever seen at a restaurant only next to a Wendys or McDonalds. Some examples a) The guy did not serve raitha with the rice (biriyani) dishes and when asked why, his answer was "You did not eat it the last few times. So I did not bring you any" What are you? My mom? b) Plates are never removed from the table when eating buffet. You have to pile them up on the side yourselves. c) We showed up at lunch time and chose to order food instead of buffet and his reply was "Okay, if you are ordering food, we will have to call the chef to work". So... who the fish is cooking the buffet food? d) Called them an evening and was told they stop seating and last order was at 9:30 PM. Showed up at 9:15 and was turned away saying they can only do a to-go at that time. Not to mention I had to drive up there in the rain. PS: Im Indian too and this is not some hate review. The service gradually went down the crappers to the point that I would not go back again ever. If you are just doing take-out, this place is good.

Tandoor is easily the best Indian restaurant in the Triad. Hands down. Although the shopping strip Tandoor is nestled in is a bit sketchy, dont let that deter you. If I feel like being overcharged for lower quality food to sit in a more nicely decorated restaurant, Ill go to Saffron or Nawab, which I also enjoy, but not nearly as much as Tandoor. For starters, Tandoor serves the most authentic Indian cuisine in town. I know this because I take real Indian people there all the time, and they tell me so. Unlike the other restaurants in town, they havent Americanized their food nearly as much. They are the only restaurant in town that will make my food Indian Hot. They also are willing to cater their meals to my friends who are vegetarian or vegan. Their service is fast and the owners are some of the most pleasant people. I go here no less than 2-4 times a month, and that says a lot seeing that I am a shameless foodie. I eat out a lot, but almost never at the same place twice in a month.

I have no idea what some of these reviewers are talking about, we have been going to this restaurant for over 2 years and they are excellent every time. I am from England originally and have eaten at a fair share of Indian restaurants in my life time and this is right up there, for sure the best in the Triad. The service is great, but it is a place that you should not expect to sit, eat and be out in a hour. The menu is right on point with the Indian staples i.e. Chicken Tikka Masala but they also have various traditional dishes that are just great. The owner is very gracious and welcoming, it did change hands not that long ago but i/we havent seen any drop in the quality of the food, we have a lot of friends that now eat at Tandoor and love it every time. If you are looking for a quality Indian Restaurant in Greensboro this place is a must! If you ask me a couple of the previous reviews look like they were written by rival restaurants. Love this place and we will always come back!

Food is generally good but the service is awful! As noted by other reviews, new managment has resulted in poor service. Service is slow, they dont welcome guests, dont clear the tables, absolutely passive customer service. My daughter loves the place so we keep going back, otherwise, I would find another Indian Restaurant that actually wants customers. Update. Had lunch with my GF here last week. Service was good likely because the young lady who waited on us (and many times previously) is really on the ball. She was the only one working the dining area though. Had there been more that the 4 tables with customers it would have been a dissaster. Otherwise, on this particular visit, everything was great. Food was, and always is, awesome! I really encourage them to get on the stick and get the service worked out. If, when, they get this taken care of I would do a little more to spice up the ambiance.
