This place is a small hole-in-the-wall that really delivers on quality! The corner diner with a small gravel parking lot and sidewalk construction out front is unassuming and when you step in, the first thing that comes to mind is a greasy spoon type diner. But once you realize the tables are clean, the floor is clean and the silverware is clean you realize its just an old diner joint with a heart of gold. The food is amazing. I had a reuben that had REAL corned beef and nice toasty rye bread. With fried okra it was delicious! The okra was fried right too, not mushy and not hard. Just crisp. My sons had pancakes that were as large as the plates. Country ham was juicy fried on a griddle, the biscuit was HUGE and eggs and bacon were done right. The homefries were fresh potatoes and caramalized onions (mmmm) out of this world. My husband had fried cod with fries (fish n chips). He was so impressed with the quality in such an unassuming diner. The cod was beautifully battered and fried perfectly with french fries. The coleslaw was bland but thats always iffy, to us. All in all, definitely worth a try. And the servers were great they were patient, helped the kids and amswered all our questions with a smile and kept the refills coming on the sweet iced tea. For the price, quality of service and food, its necessary that you go. Now. I know youre hungry.

Good place for breakfast. The menu is a bit lacking not a whole lot of choices but what they have is good. Biscuits are huge OJ is fresh squeezed.. You can get canned or home made corned beef hash Both are good. The service here has been great every time I have been there. Never had any issues with the food its always been good. I do wish the oranges for the fresh OJ were refrigerated before they squeeze them. OJ can be a bit warm but still good. Part of being fresh squeezed i suppose. The gravy for the biscuit is just a real basic pepper cream gravy not a thick chunky sausage gravy like i would prefer but still good. Parking is limited and even on weekday mornings the place can get a bit crowded. On weekends you might not even find a place to park or a place to sit. My review is based purely off breakfast havnt had any other meals here. But if they expanded the menu a bit i would be happy to give them 5 stars.

Classic diner feel, diner seating and diner staff but everything else classic goes out the window! They have the most amazing and ENORMOUS biscuits I have ever seen. I almost felt ashamed for eating one biscuit. That is fantastic. They also have pancakes (or cakes) that are buttery and delicious. I recommend eating breakfast here at any time of day. They have Counter Culture coffee which is the best in the country and Neeses sausage, which is next to none. Parking can be limited and the wait can be atrocious if you dont time it right. Please go here and eat and get a biscuit!

Location is ideal. Although parking seems to be an issue. Service was okay, server was very attentive. Other staff seemed rude by dropping plates on table and saying hope you enjoy with a tone of voice that wasnt pleasant. Food was okay but quality seems to be lacking as the grits tasted very grainy unlike regular grits. Pancake was a bit too brown almost burnt. Bacon was perfect. Eggs were perfect and exactly as ordered. A bit on the fence about this place. Good atmosphere but not big enough table space. Will try again soon.

Fantastic value and amazing service. This place is a triad staple, and for good reason. Be prepared to wait a fair amount of time on sundays, as the place gets crowded. Youll see why. Pancakes the size of your plate. Biscuits the size of your head, all for cheap. To the above customer...everyone has to wait outside. Just because you are elderly doesnt mean they have room to magically seat you when the place is at full capacity. Dont like it? Go somewhere else instead of giving a negative review.

Put your phone down. Go to Smith Street Diner. Order a country ham biscuit. Eat it. This review can wait. ...Youre back? Good. Yes, the food is really that serious. This is one of the best spots in Greensboro for classic Southern breakfast food. Service is always friendly, but be warned that they can be packed at peak hours, and parking can be a little tight. Portions are solid, with the notable exception the biscuits, which are huge, and the primary reason I go here.

Every time we have visitors come into town, we take them here for breakfast. And every time they come back to visit, they ask us to take them again because they enjoyed it so much when they were here. They rave about it to friends. Its a great breakfast with well-cooked food thats inexpensive for the amount of food that you get. My father in law gasped at the size of the biscuit! My Mom loves the Mexican eggs and I have dreams about their pancakes.

They have great breakfast so I decided to try their Fried Chicken Thursday. I must say it was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Our waitress was great but the food wasnt. We were service old, cold chicken so I sent the food back thinking maybe they would get it right and make us some fresh. WRONG! All they did was put it in the oven to warm it up. Needless to say we will never be going back there for dinner, maybe not even for breakfast.

Ive eaten at a lot of diners in my life. How this one has a rating of 4 stars is a mystery to me. The toast was brought to me un-buttered and cold. The home fries are obviously reheated and the taste was just bad. The eggs were over easy and tasted like eggs. Coffee is fairly strong clear made with Robusta beans and served just above room temperature. Disappointing is the best description for this diner.

This is hands down THE best breakfast in Greensboro. Arrive early on weekends or better yet, go during the week, because they fill-up very fast. And for good reason! They have the best country potatoes Ive ever tasted! The biscuits and pancakes are as big as a plate and the omelets are great also. Ive been there several times with my husband now and my only regret is that we didnt try it sooner.

Used to LOVE this place. But took a small group of students there and they actually seated us, brought menus, then UNseated us to give the table to another family. The family had agreed to let us go first, but the manager insisted we get up and wait. Embarrassed my students and bad "optics" because we happened to all be a group of Black women. I tried to reason with manager but she wouldnt budge.

This is one of the best places in Greensboro to grab breakfast! The portions are enormous, so I would take that into account when ordering, the biscuits are the size of large baked potatoes. The Homemade Hash is always worth it, so much food and soooo delicious! Everything here is great really. The staff are always sweet and welcoming and the restaurant, while a bit dated, is always clean.
