In my opinion this is the best pizza in Durham. I went here several times a year in college & was always pleased with the food. I think its something about the parmesan that they put on the crust. Good beer selection & convenient location next to American Tobacco Complex & the Durham Bulls Athletic Park right near downtown. It is a big space that can handle groups pretty well. Service was fine -- can definitely get busy / loud with kids, large parties etc -- always fairly hectic seeming but its to be expected from a family-friendly pizza place I think. The theme of this place is really bizarre -- these psychedelic anthropomorphic mushrooms that look like theyve just had a really strong hit of ganj, which whoever came up with the motif must have been on when the bright idea came to them. Minus one star for being pretty overpriced in my mind (& minus the other star for lacking any special X factor that I think is required for a 5 star review).

Visited here after a Durham Bulls game. Restaurant was average busy and pizza was excellent. Service on the other hand was terrible. Our servers name was Nyjelle and he was hands down the worst server I have ever had. We had to ask on three separate occasions for refills. Once our pizza arrived and was delivered by someone else while Nyjelle was talking to someone not even eating there. From the time our pizza arrived he walked by our table eleven times without stopping and talking to us. After we finished the pizza we had to stop him on the 12th time by to ask for our check. He initailly looked at us like what do you want. No discussion of how the meal was or anything. I would rate the restaurant and pizza at a five but due to the server (Nyjelle) I am forced to over all it at a one. I will not return to this restaurant because of the service. Manager was not available.

I think Mellow Mushroom, as a whole, is not bad. Were used to going to the Glenwood South location which is very good. We decided to visit the Durham location since NC State was playing at Carter Finley and didnt want to deal with overflow crowds. We decided, at first, to eat outside but it was extremely noisy and I couldnt hear the conversation between me and my friend. I blame the metal roof above for the bad acoustics. Lovely view otherwise. We moved indoors where it was quieter. Our pizza was not up to the usual standard we get at the Raleigh location. Also, our server should have tried to have more personality than simply bringing our food and refilling our glasses. Being friendly and engaging with customers goes a long way. She wasnt rude though, just a little too robotic. Id say the Durham location was average and can improve.

Ive been to this particular Mellow Mushroom location many times because of its vicinity to the Bull ball park, and its my favorite pizza place in the area. Make sure you check the Bulls schedule before you go though, because it gets absolutely packed with people on game nights (sometimes, its just worth the wait). Its a great restaurant to split a pizza and share some good beers, or to just go for a quick lunch to enjoy their delicious oven baked hoagies. Ive also been very impressed with their selection of appetizers, but the main attraction here is definitely the pizzas. They have some crazy combinations of toppings, but Id have to recommend the house special. Its like a meat lovers pizza, but turned up to 11. You wont be disappointed with this pie and a few ice cold brews.

Food is mediocre, its no better than a Brixx pizza chain. The part that got me was the prices and the service. It took forever for our pizzas to come out on what I consider to be a slow night. A medium pizza was $20.50 Granted it was a "specialty pizza" (Caesar salad pizza) the price was never listed on the menu. It was over DOUBLE the price of a normal pizza and was not nearly as good as they used to be. Took forever to get our check and had to ask twice for a box. Never got any refills and the waiter only checked up on us once when we first got our food. Place is way overpriced for mediocre food and awful service. For $21, go to a nice place that serves something other than mediocre pizza.

Mellow Mushroom is my absolute favorite pizza place. The food quality is terrific; Ive never had anything I didnt like: from their delectable hummus and pita appetizer, to their pizza, to the perfectly sweet honey-cinnamon-sugar pretzels. Is it a little more expensive than other pizza places? Yes it is. But Id much rather pay a little extra for what I know will be a quality meal, than save a few bucks and end up with something mediocre. To top it all off, the pizza here isnt near as greasy as other places, so I dont feel bad after Ive eaten it. Everything about this place is fantastic, and writing this review is only making me hungry. Check it out!

I had the opportunity to eat lunch with my Google+ and Ingress buddies +Jimmy Matthews III and +Brian Johnson at this location and, just like most Mellow Mushroom locations, it was amazing. The service was great, the sweet tea was spot on and the Italian sub hit the spot. The great conversation about all things Google made the meal even better. I will definitely be back to this location. There is a new location opening on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill that is closer to me so we will see how that one turns out. In fact, that Chapel Hill location is opening this week; the week of February 27th, 2013.

I love this place. HOWEVER, yesterday a staff member came to the table and said, "I hate to do this, but we have these delicious chocolate chip cookies." My son is left upset because I didnt want to purchase the cookie. It was a struggle getting him to eat his food because his mind was on the cookie. I told our waitress that was not the best idea for them to do that. Basically no one cared about the drama they created at our table. It is for that reason that Im only giving three stars today. Other than that, their food is awesome and I like the venue.

Great non-traditional pizza. Im one of those weirdos who doesnt like pepperoni, which is the default pizza topping for what seems like 99% of the planet. Its a garbage meat, and I avoid it at almost any cost. Mellow Mushroom has a fantastic selection of sauce and topping options that will get even the most traditional pizza lover to step away from the festering meat stick that is pepperoni, and try a Red Skin Potato Pie, or Magical Mystery Tour. Its one of the few places that offers the kind of interesting variety that I crave from pizza.

I worked right around the corner from here and would come here at least twice a month, sometimes more, to pick up dinner over a year. The food was always great and the service was always good. There was one incident once (out of the million times Id been there with no problems) with the food when I went with a group during lunch, but the management and staff handled it great and we were all very happy when we left. I hated my job but I really miss being right around the corner from this place.
