We decided to check it out after watching a tv show were a guy raved about how good the food was. We pulled up and saw that it had the old fashioned car hop drive thru thing going on. We read through the menu that was posted next to the intercom/order microphone. Before we got a chance to order through the intercom, a waiter came over with a pen and pad and jotted down our order. The menu had a lot of variety. I had the Po Boy with onion rings and my boyfriend had the signature barbecue chicken. The pricing was ok. Probably a little more than the typical fast food place but a little cheaper than a dine-in restaurant. The Po Boy is basically a large hamburger. The beef itself was under-seasoned but it was slathered in mustard. The bun was soggy and gooey. The onion rings were overcooked and super hard and difficult to chew without fear of breaking a tooth. I took a sip of my sweet tea and it was barely sweet and watered down. My boyfriend seemed to like the chicken so I tried a small piece. I was unimpressed. The fried outer portion was soft and soggy with their special sauce. I may be the minority here but I dont want anything thats fried to be wet and soggy even if the sauce is tasty. I didnt finish any of the food from the restaurant and opted for leftovers from my fridge. Since this place gets such good reviews, Im willing to go back and give them another chance. They may have been having a bad day so were willing to go back. So for now, I say that the food doesnt live up to the hype.

By far the BEST fried/BBQ chicken Ive ever had. Went there because we saw it on "Diners Drive-ins and Dives" and also on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." It really was all about the chicken. For about $6 we got 1/4 chicken which is fried to perfection and then dipped into an absolutely delicious BBQ sauce (not to thick, not to thin, nice vinegar tanginess but also some sweetness from brown sugar). Came with some righteous slaw, some decent fries (didnt fill up on those) and a roll. My favorite part was finding a piece of white bread that they put underneath the chicken that sops up all the sauce (and grease) and is sinfully delicious. Throw all your health concerns out the window, eat the chicken skin and all, and get some strawberry pie for desert. (p.s. They bring you extra trays so you can place the food on your lap in the car and not get stuff all over yourself...nice touch)

I believe in customer service and this place didnt offer any. I had to check with the cooks for any food details. This is my first time trying this place and i didnt even try the food. I walked out because I didnt feel invited in the first place. I tried asking questions inorder to place an order and the guy dismissed me made a face and answered the phone...and no they were not busy.(myself and one other person). The cashier totally disregarded me. I get they were established in 1959 yet today is 2017 and I am somebody treat me as such. I hope no other Charlotte restaurant welcomes me like this..all thumbs down to this place.

Was told about this place from our instructor. I had to thank the guy when we got back into class. This was by far the best BBQ I have ever had!!! The chicken was simply amazing!! The people were super nice as well. As soon as they heard we were from out of town the guy said "ok, this is what you want" and ordered for us. The food was great and plenty. For about 7 bucks I got a massive plate of pulled pork, chicken, hush puppies and fries. I want more business trips to Charlotte now!

Decided to stop by because we like trying new things the service was absolutely TERRIBLE in the middle of taking our order (rudely taking our order I might add) the manager gets on the phone and has us just standing there didnt say hold on or anything then when he gets off the phone without telling us our total he says whos next and doesnt even look at us. Like its just terrible service and the food wasnt even all that great I wouldnt suggest it

Maybe we are just not used to NC BBQ yet as our first trip to the Bar-B-Q-King disappointed us. The shredded pork was okay, but nothing special and the dipped fried chicken was barely lukewarm and stale. The biggest let down for us was the so high praised onion rings that sadly tasted like card board. BUT, the staff was wonderful, the place has a very rustic charm and I will definitely go back for the fried perch special. The fish was excellent.

Fried chicken was juicy and crispy but lacked any seasoning in breading; bland. ..didnt realize only way flavor/seasoning is introduced is to get the bbq chicken version on the menu. Some of the stuff came with the sides it says it comes with and some didnt (6 bucks for a burger no fries on sandwich menu). Pretty ho hum for being on triple d ...had higher expectations for going out of the way/out of towner.

Was just there and ordered West Side Burger, which is SUPPOSED to come with cheese, mustard, onions and slaw. There was a minute amount of what was supposed to be the above-listed items but what I basically got was a burger with cheese. Talk about a nothing burger - it was completely tasteless. I could have gotten a better meal with the Wendys Carolina Classic Combo, and at a better price.

I had lunch here today and IT WAS GREAT! I ordered the fish and shrimp platter. Everything in the box was extremely fresh, hot and seasoned just right! The only reason Im giving four stars instead of five is bc they do not "de-vain" their small shrimp...so, I mean hey.. I wont order any small shrimp again LOL. But as far as the service and freshness of the food they did their thing!

Great BBQ!. Never been to this place but I had a friend bring me a bbq pork plate one day. It was really good. I have lived in the general area for years and heard great things about BBQ King but never tried it. The bbq itself was nice and lean with a good hickory taste to it. I can certainly understand why it has remained a staple in Charlotte for decades. 5 stars!

The experience was awkward. I would not recommend ordering from your car if you have never been there before. I wasnt sure it they heard my order and then many other cars who came after us were served. I wondered if our order was ever put in. As we were about to leave and go thru the drive thru, our food finally came out. The fries were basic, the sandwich was OK.

I had the Ribeye sandwich and fries and my husband had a Po boy burger and fries. My steak was very flavorful and the portion was a good size. It was served on a bun with tomatoes, lettuce and pickles. My husband loved his burger. Service was fast, everyone was polite. I live on the east side, but will definitely make the drive to eat there again.
