possibly the most amazing ribs and cajun food ive ever had in my life... better than any fancy new orleans restaurant ive been to. we got the full rack of ribs (with the best corn ever) + a bayou sampler, which comes with etoufee, gumbo, red beans (best red beans ive ever had in my life), and creole. im from california and live in new york. i expect southern food to be a little too greasy or salty, but this place was amazing. the spices were perfect, the meat was incredibly tender, everything was inredible. walking into this place you would never expect the food to be made with so much love. theres a smoky bar in front, with non-smoking restaurant seating in the back. it all seems rather ordinary on the surface. the food is a show stopper. we could not have inhaled the food faster. this was the best discovery in north carolina and well be stopping here anytime i visit.

Horrible experience tonight. The bartender asked my friend to leave because she thought my friend was messing with the monitor but it was actually a stranger. On the way out, the bartender took out a taser and followed my friend with it, buzzing it behind her uncomfortably close to my friends back. I asked to speak to a manager and it happened to be the same bartender. She got angry with me even tho I remained polite. She cussed at me, told me I was a waste of her time, and then told me I have to leave now too or else she was calling the cops. Fearing I would also get tased, I left and I will never be returning.

Took two hours to complete dinner, 30+ minute average between server visits. Several times had to get our own refills. I had fried shrimp and crawfish tails, shrimp were small, crawfish tails burned. Food cold, Cajun French fries little flavor, cinnamon apples no flavor. Two of our party had burgers, dry, not good. Very poor service. When we told them of problems, no offer to correct. Second time here, wont be back. Most unfortunate part of our experience was we invited friends to join us, they were very unimpressed, and we were embarrassed.

This restaurant from the google reviews/pictures looks like it would be a good choice in a sparsely populated area. However, when we ordered brisket and a shrimp platter, what we got was extremely disappointing. The brisket served was 3 very small thin slices at a whopping price of 14 and the shrimp platter was nothing special and overpopulated with fry at another 16$. We almost got up and walked out we were so disappointed with the taste and overall value of what we received but instead finished and paid the 31$ for this aggravating dinner.

I went to the Bayou Smokehouse in Banner Elk for the first time the other day and I LOVED IT! The friend I was with stated, " This queso is so good it made me stop talking for 10 minutes." This place is a laid back place with personable staff that makes you feel like you are at home. The menu is full of things that you cannot find anywhere else. Cajun food at its BEST! I know for my next trip to the mountains I will be eating at the Bayou again, I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Enjoy!

I must have been there on an off night, Dec 29, 2007. We arrived at 6 PM and were promptly seated however, the waiter did not show up for 15 minutes or more. We did order and 1.30 hours later it was served. The only positive thing I can say was the food was hot. I ordered based on the recommendation of the waiter the brisket fajitas and it was horrible. No one in our family of 4 was happy with the quality of the food. The place is a college bar place with bar food. I would not call it a restaurant.

Be advised...the menu will appear to be very appetizing. But do not be fooled. The food is terrible! I read the reviews here assuming 3 1/2 stars cant be too bad...but it is very bad. Bayou Smokehouse obviously serves below mediocre food to tourist because they know no one will expect to return to their restaurant. Not to mention the servers arent exactly the most friendliest you ever met. Please take heed to this review. DO NOT EAT AT BAYOU SMOKEHOUSE & GRILL!!!!!

Just to be clear based on a couple of questionable reviews...there is plenty of room in this great restaurant with superb food and wonderful service. This place is the real deal. Spicy!! Cajun seasoning spot on. Voodoo pasta was amazing...huge portion. My husband had the Cajun sampler. The gumbo, étouffée, red beans/rice and jambalaya were all outstanding. Glad we came in on our first ever Banner Elk trip. Well be back!

Weve made coming here a tradition every time we visit the mountains. The atmosphere is really laid back, more of a locals joint than a fancy restaurant. The staff treat you like an old friend not just another patron! Def the best place to watch a big game!! The beer is cold and the food is hot (and tasty too). We will keep coming back every year!!!

Great place for some authentic Cajun food from the bayou of Louisiana and BBQ from east Texas ! David, Winston and Amy do a great job taking care of their patrons! Good food and good atmosphere. Great general store attached with some cool stuff. Miss them in Charlotte as the Bayou Kitchen but its great to come up here out of the heat.

I come and reside in Banner Elk every year during the summer. The Bayou is actually my favorite restaurant on planet Earth. Everyone is nice, the atmosphere is relaxed, never bad service, and the food has always been consistently incredible. I may sound like Im going over the top, but this place is truly a gem up in the high country!

We ate here for New Years Eve based on a recommendation from a local server, and had a nice experience. The Voodoo Pasta was awesome, as was the Shrimp Gumbo. Be careful though because its very spicy (I loved it). Red Beans and Rice had lots of sausage and good flavor too. Nice place to visit while in the Banner Elk area

The Bayou discourages wheelchair patrons. The access is very dangerous and woul require significant resources to navigate. If you have mobility issues, especially wheelchair use, forget it. There are plenty of handicap accessible restaurants in the area. Suprised the ADA isnt aware.

Solid Cajun food, from a guy whos been to New Orleans dozens of times!! I was hungry and this was the only place open. I took a chance and won big. Excellent Cajun food that would be appreciated anywhere in the US let alone a Mountain Top. Big thanks to the late night kitchen staff!

Highly recommended. Just had a cup of gumbo and crawfish etouffee which were amazing (great smokey roux) with sides of fried okra and collards. Everything was freshly prepared including the fried okra (made in house not frozen). Best cajin this side of New Orleans

This place was the highlight of our trip as far as food. Excellent beer and outstanding food. Tried the gator balls and smokehouse platter and every single food item was outstanding. Next trip to Grandfather Mountain, we will be eating here again. A must try.
