The food, the decor, the service, are beyond "Excellent." Ive known that since 1972. The NYTimes tells of the powerful and famous who dine there, and as one who has not been either of those, who cares? When you sit at the best seat in the house, the bar stool near the servers area, you watch the whole world go by as you sip on the Honey Bear cocktail, and slurp oysters the way they are meant to be served: chilled and superb. Chatting with the friendly folks who work there, beats any gossip column, as one can learn about the loves and the "latest," while the magnificently prepared filet mignon just keeps on coming, all the way to the delicioso desserts; my favorite being the hot fudge sundae. Nothing compares to the Bears experience. Honest.

Ive been coming here for years but think theyve made some bad decisions recently: the drink and food portions are smaller, while the prices are higher. the cocktail glasses are smaller, and while we were given the shakers with our cocktails, they only had ice in them, so this was an empty gesture. dont short me on my drink while charging more. the steaks are smaller, too, but the price has gone up. also, GET THE TV OUT OF THE BAR! this is dumb. it makes the place feel like a tgi fridays with very high prices. or maybe a place in NJ. be who you are: a restaurant with great food and solid cocktails. people come here to talk, not stare at a tv. this is not a sports bar. its embarrassing. stop it!

This was thee most repulsive experience ever I have been all over the area Hudson valley Catskills Manhattan And Europe Never have had such rude service in my life Funny thing my family had gone to dine at Bear Cafe after a Maverick performance a couple years back and had a great meal and service Today 8-1-2014 we went in for a cocktail at 4pm Thinking we would stay for dinner The young woman setting up the bar had such a horrible attitude we could not even finish our cocktail Bad publicity We went elsewhere for ourr meal and was speaking of our experience Funny other people at the restaurant said they knew of her and had similar experiences

Had a reservation to eat before a show next door. Glad I did because there were no openings. Anyway, ordered one of their special drinks, the Bearsville: Vodka, St. Germain, Fresh lemon juice and Agave syrup, with a cucumber slice. A bit tart and delicious. I ordered the New York Strip with garlic mashed. While the wait was a bit longer than I expected, the cut of meat was absolutely phenomenal. Easily one the of the top 5 steaks Ive had. Cooked perfectly! Wife had the Citrus lime BBQ salmon, also delicious. No complaints. Definitely worth a try.

The waitstaff was engaging and attentive, and the food was excellent. The place itself is beautiful, as the restaurant is situated above a stream and the whole side of the restaurant facing it was floor to ceiling windows. Even the other customers were friendly and excited about the food. The hostess was the worst thing about the place as she was unfriendly and cold. They would do better to hire a person who exudes warmth and seems more welcoming.

this consistently great restaurant rivals any eatery in nyc. from the moment one enters the space, the service is impeccable - gracious and friendly in a casual, laid back way. from the vegetarian fare to the meat options, the food is outstanding. the wine list is excellent. the place is rustic without being cutesy and overlooks a lovely brook that runs through the town of woodstock.

We love eating out here because the food is always delicious and leaves you feeling perfectly satiated and elated. You cannot beat the atmosphere and the history of the place and property. The wait staff is friendly and helpful if you have any trouble choosing what to order. We travel an hour to dine here and if we could we would make the trek more often!

I have never had a bad experience at Bear Cafe. The food is almost always very excellent, mostly slightly above average. The service always friendly. The freshly made desserts are very tempting each time out. The atmosphere comforting and relaxing. Expensive, yes, but a nice treat once in awhile.

You just cant go wrong with this place. Food is always good, people watching is always fun and the drinks are strong. Just make a reservation before you go. The wait can be brutal!

Wait staff is a little young and pretentious. Listening to them complain for 45 minutes about their tips kind of sucked the ambiance out Of the place.

$11 black label about 3/4 of a pour. Hostess was clueless. Ended up leaving to go to the wolf
