To begin with, I’ve been buying from La Bonne for longer than I am proud of. This will truly be the last time I make that mistake again. Here’s why: I show up to the bakery, pictures in hand as reference, and talk to the girl behind the counter. She reviews my pictures, makes notes, and tells me she will get back to me with prices once she speaks to her boss. I am told everything can be recreated accurately. With that in mind, I wait for pricing. And wait, and wait, and wait. If you want to know why I won’t ever buy from this awful bakery ever again, here’s reason #1: the boss is a deadbeat. I said it. First of all, you’ll never see this guy in his own bakery, not even for a massive custom order, and probably not even if the Pope showed up himself. He is literally NEVER there, and the rare times he IS there, he will actually physically refuse to emerge from his hovel as though he is actively avoiding his own customers. I’ve never seen a professional business run like this, and that is probably why La Bonne is as far from a professional bakery as you can get. Back to pricing. The bakery was supposed to contact me when they reached a final quote. Well, they didn’t. I called THEM. When I did, the owner, who was there, refused to speak to me. Instead, he made the practical decision to communicate with me via a 3rd party, AKA the poor sap of an employee who got stuck answering the phone. I spent the next 20 min or so being put on perpetual hold while she told him what I said and he, presumably, twiddled his thumbs before he decided he made me wait long enough for an answer. So I place my order. Fast forward to the day of pickup and I wish I had never ordered anything to begin with. Nearly everything was a mess. You would think from looking at my order the boss didn’t even look to see if what I asked for could be and instead just said yes to get the sale (which, who am I kidding, he probably did). The miniature cheesecakes I ordered, which were supposed to be a light pink, were a screaming salmon color. It was a color of such grotesque intensity that I didn’t know how any of my guests would dare put it in their mouths. To top it all off, I found out later that day that salmon colored cheesecake doesn’t take like cheesecake. It doesn’t taste like, salmon, either. It tastes like Red Dye 40. Oh, and it doesn’t come with a crust either, apparently. What La Bonne Boulangeri had the AUDACTY to serve was probably the worst case of “We’re on a budget” that I’ve ever seen. The cream puffs were essentially bread puffs, (you could hardly see the cream), while the jam to cookie ratio was so drastically disproportionate nearly all my guests commented on it. The Éclairs hardly had any cream, too, and when I pointed this out to the staff (who has a case of the major crankies) I was told it looked just peachy to them. Gee, I’m glad you paid close to $300 dollars for it to look good to you, but guess what, you didn’t! And yet not a single “Let me refill those for you” were offered. Instead, I was met by every excuse as to why all the things I didn’t like were actually fine. When I pointed out that the mini cakes I ordered with elaborate fondant embellishment (priced at $18 dollars a pop) were melting, sloppy, and not decadent enough, I was told it was fine. When I pointed out that my 7 year old niece could have done a better job piping the cream onto the side of the cream puffs, I was told it was fine. When I pointed out that the decorative circles that should have been placed in the MIDDLE of the cream puff were, in fact, sloppily placed on the sides and looked as though they were falling off, I was told it was fine, and it could just be moved. After their excuses they then tried to blame ME. This was probably one of the sloppiest, ugliest orders I’ve ever gotten. In my experience, La Bonne keeps its patronage out of convenience, not loyalty or quality. Unfortunately, it will probably continue to be a blemish on Port Jeff for a long time.

I recently ordered a cake here for my college graduation party that cost about $60. I was originally going to go to Costco because it has delicious cakes, but I knew this bakery was good and I decided to spend the extra money. Well, I ordered I believe a half a sheet cake that fed around 20-25 people, and I wanted half fudge and half strawberry filling so people had options. Well, the cakes decorating and appearance were very beautifully done, but instead of the fillings being side by side they were layers and it tasted absolutely disgusting. The two flavors DO NOT taste good together and I was very disappointed because my mother and I spent more than thirty minutes with an employee describing exactly what I wanted and I thought we were on the same page. Well, my mother calls the bakery Monday and the woman who answered said something to the matter of "Im sorry the girl must have written it down wrong," and suggested we cut the cake by layers. Im sorry, but this is a ridiculous suggestion. Maybe if the cake wasnt $60 I would say, whatever, but to only offer a sub-par apology is a very poor business move. Well I went in two days later with a piece of the cake that was barely touched and I was very polite and explained to her what happened and what the woman on the phone said to me. She told me she would tell the owner and she apologized and said I may be able to get store credit, which I thought would be fine. Today (Thursday) I received a phone call from who we believe to be the owner (the same woman who told my mother to cut the cake by layers) saying she was sorry. Thats it. I was a happy customer beforehand and thought their products were delicious, but I am NEVER going to be returning to this establishment again and neither are my neighbors and my aunt who were regular customers. To say youre sorry for screwing up my order and only offering an apology is disgraceful and frankly, rude.

Very unprofessional!!!! I placed an order nearly one month before my daughters shower with one of the staff. Price seemed a little high for cupcakes and a small cake for the topper, but it was a special occasion so I agreed. Showed the staff member the photo I would like it to look like and even emailed it to the store. Not to mention that I paid for the delivery and set up by their staff members. One week before shower I received a phone call from their manager asking for more money to fill cupcakes and an extra 75.00 for the cake stand, which was never mentioned to me when I placed the order!! Are they joking me 75.00 to rent a cake stand. To top it all off the day of the shower they just dropped off at the venue and never put it together. A half hour before the guests arrived a staff member from the venue and myself were putting together the cake and cupcakes on this flimsy cake stand that I payed 75 dollars for. Unbelievable, I could of purchased the same stand at Walmart for 20 bucks. The funny part of it, I could only get 1/4 of the cupcakes on the stand the rest had to be placed on the table next to stand. For the amount of money I spent on the stand you would of thought it would have been large enough to accommodate all cupcakes. The best part I had to throw away 6 of the cupcakes, because when we opened the boxes they came in they were squished. As a whole the cake didnt end up looking anything like the picture. Very disappointed in this place!!! My daughter and her fiancé will be canceling their wedding cake order. Never again will I order anything from this shop. Rocky point bakery blows this place away! Customers please be aware!!! This place doesnt even deserve one star!!!!
