I wanted to check out The Polo Bar when it first opened up. Who wouldnt want to dine in this tribute hall to all things preppy and elegant? Ok, maybe that sort of thing is not for everyone. But I aspire to such heights. While I may not currently live in a multi-million dollar town house or wear a custom tailored suit every day, and collect vintage cars, and sail to Nantucket during the summer, I can certainly indulge in the occasional fine dining experience. And thats what The Polo Bar is. Is the food perfect? No. But everything else is, and that makes the food and the experience that much better. The hard part about eating here is the wait. You need to call one month in advance to reserve your spot. On my way in the door, I was greeted by a man and woman working the door, and dressed similarly in camel-colored overcoats. The gent checked my reservation and let me in. I entered into the bar area which is small, but has a fair amount of small cocktail tables. I met my guest (my dad) and we were escorted down the stairs to the dining room where we were promptly greeted by a man in charcoal trousers, a navy blazer (with brass buttons), shirt, and tie. Another similarly dressed gent took our coats. I was starting to notice a theme here. We were seated next to a foursome of young (20s) attractive (3/4) students (?) - my dad taking the inside seat on a tufted leather seat, and I on the outside in a standard restaurant chair. The tables are covered in white tablecloths. The dishes are all white with blue trim sporting the Polo Bar logo. We took our time once given the food and drink menus. I ordered a Vesper martini. My dad got a vodka gimlet. They mix a good drink. They brought complementary popovers and soft butter. The service and presentation impeccable. I should also all waiters and waitresses were dressed alike in charcoal trousers, white oxford shirts, repp strip ties, and medium brown oxford shoes. We started with a delightful tuna tartare. For an entree, we split a 22oz bone-in rib-eye steak supposedly originating from Ralphs personal RRL ranch in Colorado. The steak came with pepper corn sauce and fries, and we added a plate of roasted brussels sprouts. Everything was wonderful. The steak was cooked to perfection. I mentioned earlier that the food is not perfect. So, the sprouts were a little on the small side. The steak had a little more fat than I prefer. They dont lose a star over this. We finished up and ordered cups of Ralphs coffee, a scoop of sorbet, and a slice of cheesecake with blueberry compote. Again, everything was delicious! I will return again, but not for at least a month...

Twas the night before Christmas, with NYC aglow, Warmhearted friends dined at Polo. Celebrating Christmas Eve at the Polo Bar this year was a special experience and one that that we highly recommend throughout the year. By way of background, you must have a reservation – suggest you call at least three weeks in advance of the date. You will be greeted by a host when you arrive and your reservation will be confirmed.…. Arrive a bit early so you can enjoy time at the bar before dinner. The ambiance is wonderful and the mixologists are both expert and sociable. The dining room is located on a lower level. Our table was available at the scheduled time. The folks around us were friendly and nice. The food was delicious. My son thoroughly enjoyed his filet mignon. My husband loved his veal chop. I enjoyed my burger. We recommend the shrimp cocktail, pigs in blanket and baked clams appetizers. Unfortunately, the waiter accidently spilled drinks at our table. My pocketbook and jacket were hit as well as other friends clothing. The waiter froze for a bit but recovered and got club soda and napkins. We were in a festive mood and didn’t want to create a scene, so we just laughed and moved on. One post dinner thought and small suggestion. The restaurants “accidental spill policy” should be reviewed by Management. A standing policy that provides a small discount or complimentary item would go a long way towards cementing the establishment’s outstanding reputation for service. Polo Bar is a wonderful place to have a celebration. Clubby and nice but not stuffy! In sum, our family will return many times in the future… I’m confident your family will equally enjoy the experience.

I made a reservation in advance for my girlfriends birthday, I made it clear and discussed a birthday message candle dessert, then again when I was asked to confirm I mentioned it was a birthday. Then when we get to dessert we order the brownie and it came without candles or message.. The waiter said no one told him... So here we are with a brownie and ice cream that we half ate, and he brings us a slice of chocolate cake with writing that was comped. For a place that prides itself on service the waiter we had was out of his league. He said things like "its so delicious right, glad you are happy" without asking me if the food was in fact delicious, he said 3 times throughout the night "no problem we are here to serve you. Not the other way around" after asking go take half eaten courses away... which is such an odd sentiment to remind a guest of. At the end of the night he shook both of our hands? Ambiance is amazing. Food is meh. Service was solid other than this waiter.

Rude service, and food is pretty lousy. Wait staff brought check while we were still eating. They hadnt even cleared our table and we had quite a bit of food on our plates and were still eating when they dropped off check. Complained to hostess/manager who was rude and did nothing. She said it was standard to drop off check after dessert. But thats not what happened, as we were still eating. Would not go back to this rude establishment. Nothing to offer here.

GR8 food & drinks in cigar-bar/private lounge style setting. Premium whiskey, scotch & wine offerings- enjoy by fireplace @ cozy upstairs bar and/or w dinner downstairs. Top shelf bartenders- know their stuff, happy 2 pour samples & take their time 2 make a perfect drink. Unreal dinner menu- caviar on fingerling potatoes a must, but cant go wrong w anything ordered. W friendly & knowledgeable wait staff, was completely killer experience.

Over exceeded my expectations. Drinks at the bar were very good. The dining experience was amazing. Recommend the Dover sole. The starters, mains and desserts were magnificent. Our waiter Michael was exceptionally outstanding topping our wine and attending to our needs in perfect timing. Compliments to the chef. I hope to visit again soon. Can honestly say was my favourite dining experience. 10/11

We loved this place! The atmosphere is great, our server was awesome and the food is delicious. The burger is definitely worth trying. Its probably the best weve ever had. We were surprised when we received a complimentary dessert after our server noticed my husband is in the service by the credit card we gave him. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here!

I have been to the amazing one in Paris and this outpost did not disappoint. How sad that not all restaurants can treat their customers the way The Polo Bar does. The attractive and courteous staff is knowledgeable and attentive. The food was excellent - particularly the Veggie Burger. I would go here every day if I could - just like heaven!
