It’s a simple equation, really. I tell you what pizza I want, I pay you, you give me the pizza. Surprising how an establishment could manage to screw literally every part of this equation up. I was once a huge advocate of this place, eating here often. Their pizza is decent. But their service is the worst I have ever experienced. I was yelled at multiple times for them screwing up my order, publicly humiliated, and accused of being a liar. I stood at the counter, ready to order. A man walks up and yells something about how I should be ready to order; strange, as I had been waiting on him. Immediately, I tell him exactly what I want: one slice of pepperoni and one slice of chicken parm. He talks me into the meat lovers instead of peperoni, because they were out (and apparently weren’t even planning to make more, he insisted as I said I would wait). I go through the rest of the line and pay for my order. The man comes up and begins serving everyone else (behind me in line) their orders, most of which were very similar to my own. Finally, he asks what I ordered and I tell him. He brings me a meat lovers and a chicken bacon ranch. Realizing this, I let him know that I had ordered a chicken parm. Immediately, several of them crowd around the counter across from me and begin accusing me of not actually placing an order, saying I surely hadn’t placed it with any of them. The man initially refuses to take the slice back and then makes a huge scene of throwing the chicken bacon ranch slice away. He again yells that I had not placed an order and then begins serving the people, at this point far behind me in line, their slices: many meat lovers and chicken parm. At this point, I just laugh. He then screams at me (and another person in line, whose order he had also f—ed up at this point) that this person had ordered before me, what is my problem?! Even though this person was about 15 people behind me in line. Several of the people behind the counter seemed in disbelief that this man was behaving this way, but didn’t have the courage to defy him; presumably he is part of the family of this family ownership. Another person in line shouts “funny they f—k up our orders and then yell at us about it.” Finally, one of them makes a half-assed apology for his behavior. It would have meant a lot more coming from him. The sad thing is that I used to promote this place to everyone I knew – and I had even eaten here a couple dozen times. At this point, though, I will not be returning. The pizza is decent, but not so good that it allows for being treated this way.

The plain cheese pizza may be the original pizza by the slice available here (and the only type available for many years, according to the brochure) at this long time family owned restaurant, but I cant help but order slices with pepperoni. The slices did not disappoint - perfectly uniform thickness of crust, cooked just crispy enough, and there were no soggy parts. Nice balance of cheese and sauce. A little greasy on top, which is just what I want. I ate the crust and almost enjoyed it as much as the rest of the pizza. Two slices and a medium fountain drink was $10. Without a soda it would have been $8. Tax included. I like that. Any place that wants to even up the prices to whole numbers deserves a special mention - because even if I rarely pay cash, coins BLOW, so the effort should not be overlooked. I dined in, and while its obviously not an upscale place, everything from the counter up front to the booth in the back was clean and in good shape, it was well lit inside, and relative to the surrounding restaurants, it stands out if youve been inside them at least once. You know youre not at a chain restaurant, but its also not scary inside. They actually have quite a few booths in the back - its larger than it appears from the outside. This is very, very good (if not excellent) pizza. I would have a tough time walking past this place without stopping in for a slice, even if I just ate.

I really dont understand the New York perception where service doesnt matter. Maybe Im just a spoiled kid from the OC, but I do know when Im being ignored and disrespected. Poor, poor service from the guy at the cash register. I paid for a drink and got ignored twice when I didnt get it. I hadnt even left the register when I asked for it, but he kept helping more customers. I raised my voice and said "Sir, you owe me my soda," but he managed to talk over the glass to the next customer. Fed up I just said ef it and took my pizzas and my business. -=-Pizza-=- So Im trying to get over eating this super dough-y upside down sicilian without a beverage to wash it down. It was one of the more unique slices that I tried during my NYC visit. The basic breakdown is a super spongy thick layer of bread with cheese and sauce on top. For fans of bread, this is a win. Most of the flavor from this slice came from the tomato sauce on top. It was by no means in abundance, however it tasted a bit too sweet to be the primary flavor. It wasnt oozing of cheese, but this is not the style of pizza for that. I also tried the mozzarella with basil which I enjoyed a bit more since it took the focus away from the sweet sauce with more cheese. The food ranks between a 3.5 to 4.

Being that I used to take a train home from Penn Station on a regular basis, I missed this place. The reason is because I heard about it being the best in NY, which was ridiculous to me even if some of the raves came from legitimate sources. Half the pizzerias around this tourist-laden area of Midtown claim to have won some imaginary taste test to reel in the suckers. One day, hungry, with little time and not in the mood for White Castle, I finally wavered. Im surprised that this place is Italian owned, as its one of a handful left in Manhattan. They have a very good selection of slices, and because of the traffic in this area the turnover is pretty good. A classic slice is the way to go here. Crunchy, light crust. Typical aged mozzarella. Semi-sweet tomato sauce. Most importantly, all the elements synergizing beautifully. Best pizza in NY? Nope. Best slice in Manhattan? Now thats more reasonable, but no. Solid slice thats worthwhile and very representative of "slice joint" pizza? Absolutely. Dont go to Suprema expecting the absolute best, but you can expect a good slice in a shop with a long running tradition of making good slices.
