WORST place EVER in Manhattan. Taking advantage of dizzy/drunk people late at night who wont pay attention to the check is clearly how they run their business. I never experienced such a rude staff (especially the bold waiter with glasses). The prices look cheap - $1.35 for a coffee or a tea. So how come they charged us $18.95 for 2 coffees / 2 teas / Mozarella Sticks ($7.95). Definitely too expensive but we chose not to say anything and give them the 20% tips. After a little while, I overheard the waiter talking in spanish to another staff member and looking at a table of 3 drunk people about to leave: "you see, you have to charge them more to make more money for you. It works." We were so shocked that we asked to see the menu again. The waiter ignored us and sat on a table to count his tips (he was doing that every 15 minutes!). My boyfriend then walked to counter to grab one. We definitely had the proof that he overcharged us. My boyfriend kindly asks the waiter to review the check but he became so rude, insulting and trying to find fake excuses to over charge us (I gave you black tea, the best quality one, or I let you stay in for too long....). At the end, he accepted to give us $5 back if we were instantly leaving and ordered the staff to clean the table. I wanted to finish my tea as I paid for it. But still, he wanted to throw us out, otherwise no money back. What kind of behaviour is that?! Definitely not the one you expect from any place you overpay for your orders and give good tips!

Ive read a few reviews that complained about service, but that has not been my experience at all. I used to live right next door and now I live a few blocks away. Ive eaten there at 3am, 1pm and 6pm - the service is always great! After a few visits, the staff will start to recognize you. Though I have once or twice had misunderstandings about my order (Im a very picky eater) the staff was always quick to do whatever they could to make my visit enjoyable. The place is often cold and I once moved three times to find a warmer spot and the waiter came and helped me all three times, even reccomended a warmer spot. The food is delicious. I only get the open-faced chicken souvlaki, but friends Ive brought with me say the burgers are really good amongst other things. The staff is very friendly and involved with itself and often sit around the counter watching whatever game is on and chatting when not busy. This doesnt bother me at all - they are always quick to refill drinks and bring me my food. All in all - I love this place. I dont eat out often, but when I do I go here and I always bring my friends. I typically curl up in a booth (or by the window - the walls are all windows and offer a nice view of the streets) and read a book while I enjoy my food.

The place is not one of the most comfortable in the world, actually it is a little bit tight. The decoration has nothing, absolutely nothing special about it, so dont expect an authentic American diner atmosphere. I went there on a sunday morning for a brunch and I must say I was starving since I just had left the gym. I went to the safe options and asked waffles and pancakes. Everything was really delicious. Afterwards we ordered a Nutella crepe and I barely had an orgasm: that thing is delicious. About the service: they are really attentive and I dont have anything to highlight about it. The price is fair.

Ive been going here for many many years and is the best coffee shop in the area. Thank God its still here because many of the coffee shops over the years have disappeared. I usually have a hamburger and fries which is great and their coffee is delicious. I dont have an issue with service because I just call them over! I can have a loud NYC voice! Booths are extremely comfortable and thats a must in a coffee shop. Many glass windows too to give you a view. Waitstaff always very friendly.

Worst service ever I just ordered desert & the guy never came to bring the order. I then called the dinner and spoke to a manager named sam and he said I couldnt get my order until tomorrow because they only had two Mexicans working delivery and they are uneducated and not smart like me which was truly racial and as a Mexican defensive. The fact I couldnt get my order when I wanted it and had to wait until tomorrow and racial comment they should fire sam because Ill never come here again.

We came here because my friend lives in the neighborhood and loves this place. Mostly because they are open all the time and she can order whatever she likes and they will deliver it. I ordered a panini and fries which was pretty tasty. The food was average price and it was your standard diner fare. Our waiter was nice and attentive to us. Our food came out quick and hot, which was a given since the place was mostly empty when we went.

The Midnight Express Diner will always occupy an important place in my young adulthood. Living in a railroad apartment on East 89th my mates and I enjoyed good greasy food served by a salty/sweet Greek staff at all hours on a Saturday night. These were the days when Soho and Lafayette St. still commanded the hottest nightlife and Brooklyn was were tourist went for pizza.

Food is fine and previous visits were all good experiences. Today the service was nonexistent. Our table didnt get served or even set. After waiting 20 mins needed to ask alternative server for the order and coffee etc. Even getting the check took work to find someone to provide it. Good food bad service

The good: plates are abundant, big. We got omelettes and we could barely make it through. These are good. The bad: cleanliness. I had a feeling everything was dirty. The cups, silverware... etc. We got to the table and there was evidence of a leak that dried up in top of the table and nobody cleaned it...

Pretty terrific food that hit the spot on a chilly, windy Oct weekend. The omelette with avocado was delightful, and the waiter chatted with us about fishing, (apparently a fav pastime) before comping us for a strawberry & banana crepe with Nutella. What an absolute standup guy!!

This has become our go-to diner for breakfast on weekend mornings. Weve even gone for dinner during the week when we cant decide on what we want to eat. With their big menu, we can always find something satisfying. They also have good delivery, and have a very large deliver zone.

The food was satisfying. I had 2 eggs scrambled with bacon, potatoes, and toast. The eggs and potatoes were good. Nothing spectacular. Just satisfying. If you want breakfast, this place will give you good breakfast. The staff is friendly too. I liked it. Would come again.

Extra large menu... with a wide range from greasy spoon to healthy spoon, its sure to please everyone. With lots of seating and large windows at the street, the ambiance is just right. On my visit, I thought the food and service was great. No complaints from me at all.
