Great sushi, sashimi and great specials in a quaint little place! Be sure to make a reservation if you plan to go over the weekend, space is very limited! All ingredients are of excellent quality and crazy fresh. It disturbs me that one of the other reviewers gave them only 2 stars simply because of one evening over the course of 4 years AND to make their complaint here and not directly to the owner, kinda cowardly on many levels...

We had trouble finding really good Japanese when we moved to the Hudson Valley and stumbled upon Hokkaido when the Mexican Kitchen around the corner (also to die for!) was packed. Simple, clean, excellent service, very fresh ingredients... even the standard things like miso soup and dumplings taste homemade. Make a reservation on weekends - those who know about this place are here all the time. Now we are too!!!

My favorite Japanese restaurant in the New Paltz area. Decent sushi, very good noodle dishes, and nice stir-fried vegetables (which arent available in most Japanese restaurants, and make it possible to have a relatively low-carb meal here for those who are so inclined). There can be a bit of a wait sometimes. Nice, casual, low-key decor. Service is fine.

Of all the Japanese Restaurants we frequent, Hokkaido is our favorite. The Sushi always tastes fresh, their Miso soup and Edamame are the BEST weve ever had, and the service is quick and friendly. And, when the weather is nice, we really love having our meals in the charming little courtyard in the back. 5 stars for us!

I have spent the past 6 years eating at Hokkaido weekly. I am a weekender and eat sushi in NYC regularly too. Hokkaido does rolls better than any sushi restaurant in NYC. Period. Fresh fish. Great cozy atmosphere. Excellent non-sushi menu as well. Great saki and beer selection. And Jerry the owner is like family.

Great selection, reasonable prices, fantastic quality, delightful atmosphere, and a wonderful staff make this a perfect stop for fresh sushi or most other Japanese dishes. I have to drive half an hour to get here, and its worth every minute, and has been, for the past 17 years that Ive been coming to this restaurant.

Amazing food and servers who are super-sweet and always smiling. If youre looking for somewhere to eat in New Paltz this place also has a nice courtyard, perfect for summer evenings. Also lots of delicious options for vegetarians. The green beans and shiitake mushrooms is delicious.

Is always on point. Like damn the make a good roll. Last time I was inn there I said gimme something with eel in it. What they brought out was like watching an action movie for my tongue. It was called men in black.

Ive been to a lot of sushi restaurants in the Hudson Valley and this one is my absolute favorite. The fish is the freshest, best tasting Ive had and the service is great too. Price isnt bad either.

Great sushi, offers outdoor dining in a quiet setting which is nice. An upgrade of the outdoor furniture would be a plus, but you cant have everything. The aged tofu appetizer is great.
