Not quite sure why this place has gotten so many good reviews. I found it to be terrible myself! But first, let me start out by saying that the service was good. The wait staff was very attentive and the food came out promptly. (It is not their fault if the food they serve is bad...) However, the food itself was really awful! It started off with a salad that was supposed to come with Greek dressing and instead just came with a cup of oil. It was gross and nasty. Then I ordered some broiled fish with broccoli and a sweet potatoe. The fish was overcooked and was the saltiest fish I have ever had in my life (including anchovies)! They over seasoned it to death. The broccoli was yellow and limp (again, overcooked) and I also got perhaps the worlds smallest potatoe. (It was about the size of a Clementine orange or a tangerine.) The fish itself was also very small, I thought. Ive rarely left a diner still hungry, but I did here. It ended up costing me $20 (with tip) for dinner for terrible food. They even charged me $2 for an iced tea and all they did was hand me a warm bottle of Lipton tea - they couldnt even be bothered to pour it into a glass with some ice for me! There were also a pair if flies buzzing around the diner that kept bothering me while I was trying to eat. I managed to kill one of them with my hat. Overall a horrible experience and I would never go back there again!

I have to say first off that I am a diner fanatic from way back, and have been to many many diners in my life; good, bad and ugly. I stopped at the Miss Monticello Diner for lunch recently with a family member while on a day trip in the Sullivan County area. We ordered Greek Spinach Pie with a side of fries, French Onion soup, Cobb Salad w Grilled Chicken. Everything was very good, and the waitress was attentive and very friendly. The one thing I have to mention is that from the time I entered the establishment, there was a very noticeable odor. The closest thing I could describe it as was the sort of smell you get from walking into a not-so-well maintained senior citizens home. Some combination of Antiseptic Solution and Old People Smell. I tried to ignore this, and eventually I stopped noticing it. To be fair, it was lunchtime mid-week, and many of the patrons there seemed to be well past retirement age; this may have had something to do with the nature of the aroma. Also there was a fly buzzing around the table, which is not a deal-breaker for me, but may say something about the overall attention to cleanliness of the establishment. Neither of us used the rest rooms so I cannot comment on that aspect. Overall the food and service were very good to excellent, but the atmosphere/housekeeping needs some definite upgrading.

After taking a wrong turn on a highway, we pulled into Monticello for gas and grub. This small Greek style diner reminds me of the typical Greek diners back in the city. Although it was quiet when we arrived, it was much more full and lively as we departed. That said, this diner exceeded my expectations. The burgers were cooked near perfect, the fries were crispy and just the right amount of crispy. In addition, the Greek salads were abundant and very fresh. I wouldnt mind stopping by here during future travels.

Friendly staff; rarely a wait to get seated. Prices are moderate, fair dessert selection. Food is excellent, if something is not prepared correctly, there is no fuss in getting it sent back and prepared correctly. Decent place for groups to go to eat. Can call and place an order to pick up for take out. Service is good, not a long wait to get your order. Hot food is most always hot and cold foods cold.

I had Sunday breakfast. My eggs were made to perfection. Home fries were freshly made with onions and green peppers. Coffee cup was continuously filled. The dinner was very clean and the bathroom spotless. Our server was pleasant and returned twice to see if I wanted anything else . I will be eating there again.

Skip the local chain food off the highway and eat here instead. The entire family really enjoyed the entire lunch we had. Great food good prices and wonderful service. The servings are large and the Specials are a great deal. I really liked the Lobster Bisque and the Fries!

Food is very good bordering on home made. Just walked in to eat, the owner handed me a hundred dollar bill. She told me I left it instead of the $10 tip I meant to leave last time I was in. Where do you find people like that?

Miss Monticello is everything a diner should be: cozy, friendly, reasonable, along with great food and excellent service. My son said "this is the diner of my dreams!" I wont disagree.

Got a little scared walking in the door, looks a little dumpy, but was quickly set at ease. Service and food were great. Bathroom was spotless, which says a lot. Very good experience.

The chili over rice is delicious! And the eggs are always done to perfection. Burgers are also a good choice here. A nice, family-run restaurant in the heart of Monticello.
