Not what it used to be!. Not accommodating! My wife and I have been dining at Nina for several years and for the most part, always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service. Last week I made a reservation for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and looked forward to an enjoyable dinning experience. Upon arriving at our reservation time we were immediately seated. We were greeted by our server who informed us of the evenings dinner specials and took our cocktail order. Upon returning with our drinks she asked if we were ready to place our dinner order. We informed her that we were in no rush and being undecided on our entrees, just wanted to place our appetizer order at that time. My appetizer choice was Oysters on the half shell. Having an allergy to citrus and knowing from our previous dinners at Nina, I was already aware that the cocktail sauce they use contained lemon juice. I told the server that in the past, the chef would prepare a simple mix of ketchup and horse radish sauce to accommodate my allergy. After about ten minutes our server returned and asked again if we had decided on our entrees. I informed her again that we would make that decision after we finished our appetizers. She made no mention of my cocktail sauce request and proceeded to tell us that she had control as to when the orders go in to the chef and that if we didnt place our order, our entrees might take longer to be served. We told her again that we were in no rush, wanted to enjoy our drinks and would place our entree orders when we decided what we wanted. At that point we started to feel we were being rushed. A short time later the server returned with our appetizers. As she placed the oysters down, I asked if the cocktail sauce was what I requested. The server said no, the chef was too busy and could not accommodate my request. I then asked what the sauce was on my plate. She said ketchup. I was shocked of the chefs unwillingness to accommodate a patrons allergies and equally shocked he no problem just serving ketchup with oysters. After saying this to the server, she started to back pedal and said they ran out of horse radish sauce. My wife and I found that hard to believe since there were other items on the menu that included horse radish. Not even being offered an alternate appetizer to accommodate my allergies, I told the server that she could take the appetizers back to the chef, tell him what I said and bring us our check as we no longer had any desire to patronize an establishment that treated its patrons in the manner. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the manager as we were leaving who was extremely apologetic but apparently not listening because he offered to buy us an after dinner drink when we never even got passed our cocktails. If Nina is the upscale establishment they claim to be, they are going have to elevate their level of service to match the prices on their menu.

Overpriced. Obnoxious staff. Waiter disappeared. In the ghetto of Middletown NY... I am appalled of how this place has nearly 4 of 5 stars. My brother and I brought our 85 year old grandmother here for Mothers Day dinner. The first words out of the waiters mouth were "I apologize for the noise up front. Thats our cook and bartender." That "noise" was vulgar profanity. I wasnt offended by it, but my 85-year-old grandmother was. I asked for an oatmeal stout beer listed on the drink menu, which the waiter said "Pine island doesnt have an oatmeal stout. Maybe youre thinking of Newburgh." Then I showed the waiter the drink menu, which clearly listed PINE ISLAND, OATMEAL STOUT. His reply was "Oh. So it does..." The waiter took over 10 mins to get bread plates. Then our waiter disappeared, so the bartender served us our food. Our waiter was gone for over 30 mins. When he came back, he apologized for his absence because he "was looking for a bottle of wine that we (Ninas) didnt have." He didnt even ask us if we enjoyed the meal. The entrees, oysters, and meal overall was enjoyable. The price was expensive. $8 beers?? They do not have a dessert menu either. The police sirens set the ambiance of the restaurant. SKIP THIS RESTAURANT.

Not very attentive waitstaff. Not very good at handling customer complaints and dissatisfaction. It took me a couple years to go into Ninas again after I had a dish that was not only to my liking but also made me sick. The chicken in it tasted off. I complained about it but was not offered an alternative and I was charged full price even though I had only taken a few bites. A few hours later I became physically ill and did not return to Ninas until recently when I met a friend their for lunch. This time I ordered a dish that was served to me incomplete. It was the berry crepes and they were supposed to be served with whipped cream. Without that sweet fatty component to cut through the tartness of the berries the dish was very unsatisfying. When they asked for whipped cream they told me they were out, but I was not informed of that before it was served to me so that I could have made an alternative choice. I told the waitress that I was unhappy with the dish. She shrugged. Again I was charged full price and once again left a very unhappy customer. Ninas could definitely use a lesson or two in customer satisfaction.

I figured 3rd time maybe the charmer, and decided to visit Ninas again since Cosimos had a 45min wait. First time, I visited Ninas, I waited an hour at my table, we left and they offered us take out, we declined. Second time, I visited, I ordered a pasta dished that was drenched and overpowered with truffle oil (horrible) but I didnt wait an hour. Last night, I had to begin by using my phone flashlight to see the menu correctly, we did have a great waiter, my medium well lambchops and mashed potatoes ($36) were well balanced but a bit bland and arrived cold. Tiramisu ($9)was nice but I had to send my coffee back because it too was cold. This time I asked my husband to check the temperature for my $5.50 small cup of cappuccino and he too found it cold. Our total bill for 2 was $101, no drinks, no appetizers. That would have fine, if the food was not so standard tasting. I believe Nina survives because its one of the few games in a small town and because of its older loyal patrons. Yet it does have potential, it just needs to get with the program and maybe go check out how Clemson and Cosimos are doing it.

Visited nina last night. Had a not so great experience. My veal osso buco with risotto tasted only of garlic and the risotto was crunchy. The pace of the meal was absurd. Good food and fine dining cannot be rushed. With drinks, apps and mains we were there for 45 mins? Alexandria, our server, had a sour condescending attitude. After we had settled our check and leaving her a good tip, she returned to the table while I reviewed the receipt before leaving and said in a snarky tone, "What? Is there something wrong with your check?" What nerve, totally unprofessional in a supposedly upscale restaurant! Couldnt wait to get out of there. The two stars is for a previous visit that was ok, last night zero stars.
