Coming up to North Jersey several times the past few years I have always seen the sign along I-80 for the Hibernia Diner and thought that one day I would have to stop in and see how they were. This past week I was once again in the area but wanted to check out all my options so I of course checked the Google reviews of about 5 or 6 places and had narrowed it down to two different ones and since the other would have been during the breakfast time frame and I wanted lunch I decided to go to Hibernia. The other favorable reviews were accurate that it is in fact a friendly eatery with from what I saw people who make you feel like they are glad you stopped in. The diner was clean and the tables comfortable however I thought the prices of the meals were just a little on the high side but then I am basing that on South Jersey Diners so I dont know what this area costs to live in but Im guessing it too is high. On the plus side though the size of the meal was such that I was able to return home with leftovers that were enough for a lunch meal the following day, a meal that actually tasted a little better than when I first ate it. Check out my comments in the pictures for more on that.

Its the only diner in its spot, directly off Route 80. Very expensive. Wait staff are mostly friendly here. The owners, particularly George are very arrogant, not very friendly. This was the only diner in the area that had power during Superstorm Sandy, over 4 years ago. I tried in vain to place an order over the phone with George, to be picked up. Was told "too busy to take phone orders". Explained that I was a "regular" customer there...my wife, daughter and I went there for breakfast every weekend and usually phone-ordered/picked up once a week also. Still told me "no, too busy". I ventured out into the storm to head to the diner and found empty tables, wait staff standing around. Not as busy as any weekend. Spoke with George and asked why he wouldnt take my phone order...got some ridiculous "too busy" answer, even though it wasnt. Ordered food for the family (I had no power) took it out in 15 minutes. Told George his business practices were severely lacking, especially during the storm. Left and have not/will not ever returned. Same owners now, so I would expect the same belligerent treatment. Not going back!

Has good food, but the 1/2 of the wait staff should much to be desired. Went in for breakfest and was seated. This old waitress came up to us and not even with a hello or anything else, her first words were exact as this "How long are you going to take - I only have 4 tables and need to make money". The odasity of this person to say something to a customer is appauling. When we went to complain about this to management, they did nothing about it. It turns out the owners allow this to happen, allow their own staff to say this to customers and they get away with it. Others include a very low class customers that go there, they call them burnouts, another review a customer was charged approximately $400 for a $35 bill and when he called, manangement said go call the president of the United States to go get your probelm resolved. This place is a complete joke. We stopped going here immediately because they dont care about their customers.

Ive Never ever written a review on a restaurant before but I had to for this place. The service here is the worstt Ive ever experienced. Every single time Im here the manager has to come out and say something because of how long weve waited, even to-go orders , wrong every single time , and no refunds either. My boyfriend had to pay for his omelet twice instead of them giving us our money back for what they screwed up twice! . Their online ordering is completely wrong , when you click on the omelet you want it brings you to sandwiches. And on top of that whole situation we both found 2 black hairs in our food . Cant eat there or even order to-go because they screw it up every single time. Dont even try to stop there for a quick breakfast itll be 20 min before someone even comes to ask for your drink order. Used to love this place but this past year its gone wayyy down hill, and the "management" does nothing about it.

Ill start with the bad... We stopped here for a late dinner after spending our day traveling back and forth from nyc. Upon leaving we mistakenly left an expensive set of head phones at our table. We were back on the road for about 5min before turning back to the diner to go get them. They had disappeared. It wasnt busy, so someone definitely grabbed them. Very disappointing. The good... Susan, our waitress, was very on point, with our large order. Very kind, quick, friendly service. Food was great and there wasnt a long wait. Too full for deserts, but they had many options that looked very appetizing ... Upon walking out, my fiance and I were discussing how great everything was, how friendly the staff members were and that we would make it a regular stop on our drives home... but unfortunately, dishonesty is our deal breaker. Great for food & service... just dont leave anything behind!

My wife and I first stopped here 9 years ago on our honeymoon on our way to the Poconos. While it did not look like much from the outside at the time, the staff was very friendly, and your received large potions of food at a very reasonable price. this place is easily New Jerseys best kept secret. We have taken the 2 hour plus drive from our home on Long Island many times over the years to return to the Hibernia Diner and it has always been worth it. My only regret is that Lobster Ravioli is no longer on the menu. Keep up the great job!

As far as service goes, the Hibernia diner isnt bad. Our waiter was very nice and continually brought us coffee refills. However, I would avoid any menu item that isnt typical diner fare. I was excited when I saw that they offered a Cuban sandwich, and I hadnt had a proper Cuban sandwich in a long time, so I ordered it. It was pretty good too. I spent the next 24 hours in the bathroom, so diner beware. Probably some bad pork - I cant think of any other diner food that calls for pork loin, so I would imagine it was probably old.

Ive been coming here for years. Managers and waitresses are very friendly and happy 99% of the time. I see some reviews where some people are complaining about the service. But as Ive said I have been coming here for years and i know most of the people here, Im sure there would be some days that someone (one of the workers)may be having a bad day (were all human). Sorry if you had that experience. I know when I come in I will 99.9% of the time will have great service and great food!! Love this place.

Had a chicken gyro. Was great. Others had an order of french toast like Ive never seen and it was so so tasty. Another had a lamb burger which was very tasty and juicy. Though he didnt like the sauce that used on the burger he loved the burger itself. Also had a strawberry and a vanilla shake which were both very very good according to those who ordered them. Our waitress Jennifer was absolutely amazing and very pleasant to deal with. The place was also very clean and spacy not cluttered.
