My wife and I spent 4+ glorious weeks in Guatemala and had the best time there -- we absolutely loved the food, and to this day we still talk about some of the marvelous breakfasts we had there. Walking into Mayan 502 Café was like walking into any number of small restaurants in Guatemala, except maybe for the fact that everything is a little more shiny, a little more new, a little more fancy, a little more cheery here than in Latin America (its not Guatemala -- its pretty much everywhere in Latin America... for example, you would be hard pressed finding a home anywhere in Latin America without bars on all the windows and doors of every house.) In that respect, Mayan 502 *feels* like Im back in Guatemala. If that makes a place "authentic", then this place is authentic. Tamal Guatemalteco [cerdo]: A- Kind of like a Puerto Rican tamal, except drier, and the masa is less gelatinous. This tamal was excellent: the masa is tasty, and theres a nice masa / meat ratio. Evelyn and I wished the pork were more fatty -- wouldve made the tamal wetter and richer. My wife said the masa was slightly dry, but I thought the masa was 100% fine. Chuchitos de pollo / Country style tamale with chicken: B+ Almost shaped like a ball, and bigger than I expected. The masa was moist and flavorful, and I liked the texture. But there was too much masa and not enough filling to make the chuchito interesting. I wanted more chicken and sprinkled cheese filling. You order this dish for the masa.. Pupusa Revuelta [queso y chicharrón]: A+ Madre de Dios, está yummisimo! Im still daydreaming about this Heaven-sent pupusisimo. I had pupusas in the El Salvador airport, and Im telling you, this was waaay better! Could be the best pupusa Ive ever eaten, period. If youve never had a pupusa before, this would be a great introduction for you. Beverages ========= Atol Blanco: A+ Atol blanco is impossibly creamy, soft, rich, delicious, with a small hint of corn. Picture a fairy-tale story version of a big mug of hot cocoa -- thats atol blanco, minus the chocolate. Its served hot.

I live 30 miles away, I stop by every time Im in the area. This is where I get my Guatemalan/Salvadorian fix. I always try a new item, have not been disappointed with anything from the menu. The food its just like GRANDMAS cooking, good confort food. Prices are reasonable. The place its very small, 4 tables, not restroom access. So in busy hours you may have to wait but its worth the wait. Parking its a problem but if you cant find parking you can go around the corner and park in the residential street. This is not a fast food type, there may be a little wait to get your food, because they put their heart in their cooking. I LOVE this place

The food tastes like home food. Real food of type Aztec, Mexico. Some of the things we tried were the steak nachos, which deserve full attention working this hidden place. Churrasco is home style and the carne guisada is fantastic, almost like my grandma makes it. A downside is most plates come with salad and rice, it would be good to just ask for a side salad instead; the decoration of the place is not quite adorable thus the owner needs to work on such items. Still this place gets 5 starts for their home style cooking and the perfect flavor combinations. Attached are a couple of pictures of the place and some food.

I work across the street from this small restaurant. Good here is pretty good if you like Spanish food. Service is also pretty pleasant. The owners usually make you feel welcome. They have a buffet style everyday so you could see what you want to order. Or you could order from the menu. The soups are so good . So are the chicken tamales. Prices are pretty decent too. Hope they will remain in the neighborhood for a while.

I ordered a seafood soup which was well balanced. It had octopus, scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams. The soup was flavorful and I really enjoyed it!

Very good, and authentic food. Love that they have agua de horchata, tamarindo and jamaica. The owner is very friendly as well. Prices are fair.
