I have dined at numerous Indian Restaurants in downstate New York, including, but not limited to Malabar Hill, Chola, Bayleaf, Royal Palace, Saffron and the now defunct Bengal Tiger. All of these restaurants are New York City and Suburb based, with the exception of Saffron (located in Middletown). On their worst days, they are superior in quality, presentation, price and quantity as compared to Tanjore. I was unfortunate enough to think that Sunday Brunch (July 31, 2011) would present interesting, unique and new foods, given the hype of the establishment. Overall, the theme consistently reflected the owner/proprietors intention to maximize supply, overcharge, and present parsimoniously. The Chat appetizer had no samosas (which was a cost cutting measure for certain. Chicken, off the bone, was completely incongruous to a buffet setting (unless one is trying to be frugal), where children may want to sample such foods. Moreover, the chicken pieces were more bone than meat. Tandori Chicken was hacked into pieces, from the fare of Saturday night, which was heated in aluminum foil and presented in the same foil for Sunday Brunch (No Martha Stewart lesson here!). The lamb was cubed and doused in a strong sauce, leaving no room to assess texture or taste. Vegetarian fare was also fairly bland and not creative. Galling was that a mushroom dish with Spinach was substituted for Paneer with Spinach. Paneer is more expensive to add to a dish, which is why I can understand a cost cutting measure on a buffet dish. Desert was limited to Carrot Halvah and a Mango Mousse. Again, Mango mousse - cheap to make and likely a sensible choice to add to buffet fare, if you believe your guests will eat a large quantity of it; and if you as the owner wish to save money. What is incongruous about this restaurant is that the prices to be disproportionately high for such low quality food, in comparison to Middletown and WESTCHESTER County. The only positive was that staff made some attempts at being attentive, and as one previous reviewer stated, the atmosphere was quiet. However, these two qualities cannot make up for the main purpose of a restaurant: good superior quality food and dishes! Steer clear of this place. You will not be satisfied and will feel the financial hit. Spend a few bucks more on the gasoline and shoot over to Middletown or Westchester to the places outlined in the first sentence above and you will have a more fulfilling experience (gastronomically and financially).

Bad cold food, things that needed to be hot like naan and veggie dishes were cold, dessert like coffee souffle was warm. Naan was bad too besides being cold. Waited for the sambar to be refilled for alomost 15 minutes. Saag paneer was mild and tasteless. Not sure how a few people got it the best rated, may be I was there at the wrong day and time. Went for a Sunday brunch around 2.25 PM, waiter stopped by around 2.45 to tell us that they will be wraping up in a few minutes, I thought the customers in the restaurant should be allowed have more servings, just not let the new people in the restaurant. We had 2 kids in our party as well who just had their lunch before we went to the restaurant, all they ate was piece of something here and there from our plates, they did not even take a plate for themselves, even then, the restaurant charged us for the kids saying "You should have told us they wont be eating, how else am I supposed to know?" Didnt the waiter see those guys not eating? Didnt the waiter even see when they were counting how many people in the party are seated and eating?? Was visiting someone in Poughkeepsie and we eneded up there, definitely the last time though. Hope they get to their senses and does some improvements.

Ive tried giving them multiple opportunities but my last visit is the final visit. We arrived literally 3 min. before they opened, so they made us wait a few minutes. No one was there and they were just standing there, the buffet as ready. However, when we re-entered they asked do you have a reservation after they said they were open to serve us. They then asked us to finish within the hour. The restaurant slowly started to somewhat fill and only one party had a reservation. There was plenty of room. They then completely overpriced us and the bill was ridiculous. Not to mention their food wasnt great, some dishes werent even prepared correctly, or had dull flavor. Very few dishes were okay. Ive been eating Indian food my whole life and this is not the place to eat it. You have better luck in Poughkeepsie at Kismat. They may not be fancy, but they sure know how to cook and be respectful!

Omg!!! Omg!!! They fed us with leftovers food. It was terrible... Weve ordered salad, appetizer, garlic bread and main course. The appetizer supposed to consist lamb kebab, chicken kebab and beef. But we had just few small pieces of smoked sausage in it, two kind of chicken, one chicken wings really were spoiled, smelled (abviously leftover) and second chicken was from our main course, it says "Chicken tikka". Our main course wasnt fresh also, it came in the metallic bowl which was abviously warmed up a few times..( Leftovers again). Garlic bread 1 for 3.99 like tortilla, small. Very expensive. When I told the waiter we are first time there and asked him recommend us good food, the waiter just learned that we are first time and probably thought that we would not recognize which is chicken, which is lamb, which is beef. Its REALLY horrible!!! DO NOT GO THERE!!!

Its rare to find a place that has both Northern and Southern Indian food and even rarer that both are AMAZING! We stayed in Fishkill for 2 days and ate the brunch buffet both days-even contemplating going there for dinners! There is so much to choose from and all beautifully displayed and really-just delicious. They dont skimp on the spices and the breads were very soft and complimented the meal nicely. Save room for the dessert because they have 4 choices and they are all heavenly....especially the coffee mousse! I had two bowls of it after having 2 full plates of food and a small plate of chat (never had chat before and the staff helped out with explaining how to put it together). Thank you Tanjore-the food, the staff and dining experience was top notch and we will definitely go back when in the area!

This is hands down the best place to experience Indian food in the area... The restaurant serves as a family restaurant and a date night kind of place, it works for all. I love going there for date nights... it isnt a loud obnoxious place and you can have conversation without yelling at one another. The employees are very attentive and helpful. Ive been there several times over the last few years, and the food is consistently delicious and perfect...it wasnt just a fluke. I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone who wants to try Indian or find a new place!

I have been to Tanjore many time with my family and friends for buffet and dinner and they have provided the best of their food and service. The outstanding part is they have fresh food everyday and the menu on the buffet keeps changing, and you get to try something new every day. The highlight is their weekend buffet, with multiple variety of curries, appetizers and deserts its really mouth watering. My friends and kids have always enjoyed the food here . My over all experience with tanjore was awesome and will be back to explore you guys more.
